Ok, wow. Have you ever watched a movie that was so epic, so magnificent, and just so plain cool that you were brought to tears? No? Just me? Ok. (I totally didn't start crying when Paul rode the Shai-Hulud)
I have absolutely no idea how to talk about this. All I can say is that this is a very strong contender for the greatest sci-fi film of all time and, if not, at least my favourite. I went to a theatre that I'd never been to before that had the biggest screen I'd ever seen, and oh my god, what a treat it was. Completely amazed as Arrakis just filled my entire peripheral vision!
Everything about this film exceeds the first part. The scale is larger, the effects are out of this world, surprisingly even better score, everyone understands their roles so well, and each actor is playing their character with such nuance and skill. I'm really looking forward to rewatching this, hopefully in IMAX, but I really hope I don't have to deal with another three-year wait for Messiah.
I will definitely have way more concise opinions on the film after I rewatch it.
