OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies

2006

½ Watched

This film might brand itself as a satire, but there’s a fine line between parody and plain ignorance — and OSS 117 tramples over it with arrogance.

Beneath the forced laughs and overplayed spy clichés lies a deeply troubling portrayal of the Arab and Muslim world. The film relies heavily on outdated and offensive stereotypes, failing to distinguish between Arabs and Muslims, let alone recognize the cultural nuances between regions. Perfect Days

★★★★★ Liked Watched

Perfect Days is a rare film that finds immense beauty in the smallest corners of existence. Under Wim Wenders’ masterful direction, every quiet moment becomes a tribute to the simple act of living. It’s a film that doesn’t need grand drama to move you, it finds the extraordinary in the everyday.

Through the humble routines of Hirayama, Perfect Days shows how even the most ordinary tasks can be filled with dignity, wonder, and quiet happiness. Cleaning toilets, tending to plants,…

As someone who's 100% Tunisian, I really wanted to love this film. Tunisian cinema doesn’t come around often, so when it does, it’s an event. Unfortunately, this one was a massive letdown.

The humor? Cringe-worthy at best. The reliance on cheesy jokes and overdone sexual humor could’ve been fine if the film wasn’t marketed as all-ages. It felt lazy and borderline inappropriate for younger viewers.

The plot? Nonexistent. No explanations, terrible pacing, and a lack of any coherent narrative structure.…

Superbad

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie this aggressively unfunny. Superbad isn’t just the worst comedy I’ve ever watched—it might be the worst movie I’ve ever seen, period. A painfully unoriginal, meandering mess that mistakes vulgarity for humor, this film is an exercise in endurance rather than entertainment.

The plot? Nonexistent. Just two unbearably obnoxious teenagers stumbling through a series of forced, cringeworthy scenarios, held together by a threadbare excuse for a story. It’s basically two hours of sex…
