William Wallace’s review published on Letterboxd:
Before this viewing, I was worried that a rewatch might take away from the experience I had when I saw this film after years of anticipation. Seeing it the first time, I wanted to love it so bad that I thought I might have overrated it and “fanboy-ed” without any real critical ability. Even if I did fanboy out and lack any real critical motivations, my initial thoughts about this film remain the same.
Dune: Part Two kicks ass!
I said most of what I think in my first review, but this second viewing has solidified my takes. Dune: Part Two has three or four of the greatest sequences in film history. Whether that is accepted now or further down the line, one day movie lovers will recognize that there is more to this film than the hype surrounding it right now. A rewatch also reminded me how this film just flies by. There is a ton of necessary exposition that would normally drag a film down, but I can’t think of any moments that I wished it would hurry along.
Seeing this story that I have loved for years move to the forefront of popular culture has been so exciting. Films like Dune: Part Two are perfect entry points for young movie lovers to explore quality films before a deeper dive into the history of cinema. There are thousands of young people whose true love for movies will begin here, and I think that’s special.
