2011

★★★★

This is my favorite movie in a while.

In retrospect I should have seen this coming- Hitchcock meets The Matrix. But in the moment it didn't occur to me. Nor did it feel corny or unearned. The premise, but especially the execution is really high.

I find it interesting that when we first are introduced to Captain Stevens Jake gyllenhaal's character, he's bound in a very small box. If he was just upright and walking around and accepting everything it would have made it seemed silly. The science behind the thing. But the fact that he has to acclimate his own mind to what's happening and as a part of that his environments change. I thought this was a very smart touch.

I was genuinely moved by the ending conversation with the father. Weeping. Like a child. Niagara falls Frankie.

As for the second ending the whole parallel worlds thing... Still not sure what's going on there? But I don't think it bothers me.

One of those movies where you come off and you're a little bit high from the movie. Tempted to give it five stars but I can't go there.
