Had me in tears through a lot of the middle section. At a certain point the joke — failed production and inexperience is being transformed into the point of the film; a comedy of reduced resources but best intentions aka D-Movie glory — wears a little thin and some of the targets get worn out, but this mostly succeeds by going for pure ego-death and leaving even the most unflattering shots in there, going so far as to even make them the point of the whole exercise.

Posits that maybe these lands, these faces, these animals, that dirt filmed through SPW's lenses could be enough and makes me hate myself a little that for me they can't, that comparisons are drawn (Lazzaro Felice and A Hidden Life), that a narrative must be assembled, that something must happen and that whatever happens be of a certain finality, enforcing the boundaries of the world instead of re-drawing them. In the end all maps burn the same.
