Out of the two crime-thrillers we've gotten this year that revolves around a lesbian couple who just wanted to take a relaxing road trip and it ended up in the middle of a murder investigation, this is the superior movie. It's a grimy, gritty, and very funny movie. Katy O Brian was the standout and Kristen Stewart was amazing has always and this movie gave her opportunity to show her more comedic side. Ed Harris was chewing up the scenery as the villain.
Another perfect dad type of movie. If you've seen any of these "middle age man who turned out to be a world-class assassin, forced to come out of retirement" films we've been bombarded with in the last decade, the film doesn't offer anything new and does fall into most of the tropes you would expect. This is one of the better faith based films to come out in a while...which really isn't saying much. Director Jeymes Samuel delivers another stylistic and visually stunning movie. LaKeith Stanfield was fantastic as always with a very charismatic and emotional performance. The film delivers on some insightful points about religion and if faith in a higher-power makes you a better person. Unfortunately, the film is a tonal mess. As it always switching between drama, satire, and historical epic and it doesn't balance them as well. Overall, if you're religious or can tolerate faith-based films, it's worth checking out. Especially with a crowd.
