Once again, one of the most distinguishable features, that is truly outstanding, is the cinematography. The colours, scenery and detail of each setting captured by Chan-wook's masterful directing style were a pleasure to look at. The way it was filmed uniquely with a variety of unconventional angles and techniques matched the unpredictability of the story excellently. The directing and camerawork in his films are simply too incredible, It feels necessary for me to comment on them every time I watch…

I love this series so much it pains me to finally finish it. I know this is a show and not a film, but I just need somewhere to share my thoughts on it, and I found it on here, so I may as well log it. I'll do the same with Coffee Prince that I started and am absolutely obsessed with already. If anyone has any really good k-drama recommendations please let me know because I don't know how…

Fuck this film for luring me in with its sweet and fun appearance. For the majority of the film, the storyline was super cute, (cheesy and predictable, of course, but that didn't make me enjoy it any less) told with quirky camerawork, and occasionally cringey but mostly lovable acting. A colourful and dreamy portrayal of highschool in South Korea in the late 1990s paired with a light hearted romance plot. And then all of a sudden I was bawling my…

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance

Judging by the reviews most people seem to find Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance the weakest of the vengeance trilogy. I don't think it's necessarily the weakest, individually it's a great film, and yes, it lacks the action and pacing of Oldboy and Lady Vengeance, but it still contains absolutely gruesome and unforgiving violence, and in my opinion it's just as important as them. It held an unusually calm atmosphere which contrasted with the intense and tragic story, that I suppose…

Park Chan-wook has blessed my eyes with his unique and wonderful directing style once again. I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK is a hidden gem in his filmography that is so unexpectedly different from the intensity of his other work, specifically the vengeance trilogy. As much as I love the vengeance trilogy, I'm glad to see Chan-wook take a break from action focused thrillers with this cute and quirky experimental rom-com.

Park Chan-wook steered away from his usual dark and…

A heart-breaking story in general, but even more so knowing it's based on a true story. Certain scenes that re-enacted the mistreatment and abuse of the children were genuinely devastating and hard to watch. It was an incredibly powerful insight into the awful things the victims faced, making their inability to gain proper justice even more tragic.

The entire cast performed outstandingly. I can imagine each role to be quite mentally challenging for a lot of the cast, especially the…

After the death of two North Korean soldiers in the Korean Demilitarised Zone, a team of neutral investigators examine the incident in order to find the perpetrators, only to discover an unexpected friendship between the opposing men. A bold and rare story which momentarily unites North and South Korea.

There were multiple occasions where I felt the need to pause the film to further take in the pure perfection of a shot; each scene and shot is organised, well planned…

Kim Ji-young, Born 1982

★★★½ Liked Watched

Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 in my opinion holds a vast amount of importance, with its realistic and raw critique of what women are expected to endure whilst being imprisoned by a patriarchal society. Watching the endless issues that the struggling female characters faced, knowing that in reality they are normalised and overlooked situations we just have to deal with, left me frustrated. This film is harshly accurate (and felt like a big harsh reminder of the nature of society) yet…

My opinion towards this film is mixed. On one hand, I ired its grand and luxurious cinematography and the dark, tense and twisted atmosphere it produced. It was beautifully shot, especially the interior of the house. It also fortunately managed to be more than just 2 hours of eroticism with its well written characters and meaningful plot.

I don't know what to make of the strangely over the top death or the unsettling final scene. I think overall this simply lacks a story strong enough to leave me impressed; still very much enjoyable nonetheless. I'm curious to see how it compares to the original 1960 version.

This is the first Korean western I've watched (and the only Asian western I've even heard of) and damn I'm impressed. It's a perfect balance between badass over-the-top action, story, and comedy. Immensely entertaining. I'd go so far as to saying one of the best westerns out there. The more I watch of Kim Jee-woon's filmography the more my belief is strengthened that he is one of the best action film directors of all time.

The cast was extremely stacked…

Wow. This film was by far the most insane, intense and erotic 3 hours of my life (extended cut). Each act revealed the stories complexity and depth and left me more breath taken than the last. The best way to describe this film is unpredictable and WILD yet incredibly well written.

'Part one' had me immediately drawn in with its unbelievable cinematography and mise en scene. irably luxurious sets, intricately designed costumes and jewellery, satisfying colour grading and editing -…

New World

Not the brutal and action packed thriller I was expecting; instead, it is a surprisingly tense, plot twist filled, character driven, rags to riches crime drama full of uncertainty, that subverts every expectation it's audience may have for a gangster film. It's unpredictable, and that aspect is what differentiates it from the traditional gangster story.

There was a few factors however that I found made the film hard to stay engaged in, the main issues being its pacing and runtime.…
