Sinners

2025

★★★★ Watched

Sinners is technically Ryan Coogler's first original story. This is a cool vampire film that is a bit of a slow burn. Its leans very heavy on a classic vampire lore, yet it never really feels like anything that has ever been done before.

Coogler has a great cast involved here, lead by his constant collaborator Michael B. Jordan who takes a dual role as twin brothers. Coogler is able to deliver the twin idea without it ever really feeling…

Sin City

2005

★★★★ Rewatched

Director Robert Rodriquez calls his Sin City film a "translation" of Frank Miller's comic rather than an adaptation. Rodriquez and Miller go to great lengths to re-create the design of the comic. This movie doesn't even have a screenwriter. It just credits Miller as the writer of the source material.

I forgot about how awesome Mickey Rourke is as Marv. He's cool as hell, and a love how ridiculously hard boiled all his dialogue is. The tone of this can…

A Working Man

2025

★★ Watched

Jason Statham and David Ayer re-team after last year's The Beekeeper for this standard action film. Anyone looking for the goofy fun that was so present in that film will probably be a bit disappointed with The Working Man.

Sylvester Stallone co-wrote the script with Ayer and gets a producer credit as well. The plot is very much like Taken only Statham's character as a bit less motivation since he's just trying to track down his boss' daughter instead of…

Leaving Las Vegas

1995

★★★★ Watched

Leaving Las Vegas is a dark film that somehow feels pretty comforting too. I really like the atmosphere. Vegas is obviously so cinematic as a location. I've seen some complaints about the score, but the jazzy feel to the movie suits the setting in my opinion.

Nick Cage's performance won him an Oscar. He is an ideal messy drunk to a pathetic level. With his reputation for hammy performances Cage is able to give us some fun trademark Cage moments…

The Devil's Own

1997

★★ Watched

I was amazed to find out that Brad Pitt and Harrison Ford did a movie together and I had never heard of it. Then I watched The Devil's Own and I understand why. This movie is instantly forgettable.

The story is interesting enough on paper, but the execution results in a pretty boring movie. Pitt and Ford spend a decent amount of time on screen together, but their moments together don't really live up to the hype. Pitt's corny Irish…

Porky's

1981

★★½ 1

Porky's doesn't hold up that well. It can be funny at times, but it takes quite a while before any of the gags really started to work for me. The second half is definitely funnier than the first.

The cast is almost completely faceless. Its honestly tough to which character is which from scene to scene with the exception of a couple of familiar faces. Kim Cattrall appears as girl who practically howls like a wolf during sex.

The…
