Dune: Part Two

Bigger and better than the first one and ultimately David Lynch’s adaptation, which in retrospect felt campy (not that I don’t like it though). The fact that I saw this in 70mm makes it feel like an epic from the Cinerama days. Love how they mostly stuck to the book, with the implication of a global war in the end. Makes me excited to see Dune Messiah if it ever gets made!

The cinematography, the sound design, the performances are all so on fucking point! Timothee Chalamet is on fire as he gradually embodies the Paul Muad’Dib role in a way that gave me chills. Austin Butler is also a welcome standout, and the scenes in Giedi Prime in particular look straight out of an early 2000s music video for some goth song. All in all I am again so excited for the inevitable Dune Messiah adaptation! For now I guess I’ll read the books again. Denis Villeneuve, you have done it.
