Wow! This is really boring! Odd choice to have mostly Russian actors for the Russians and then Hellen Mirren is there.
]]>Not particularly good but it’s cute! If I were younger I’d like this a lot more. The soundtrack is pretty incredible. Also refusing to acknowledge bisexuality is a thing, regular pre 2010 mainstream things.
]]>It’s fun! That’s about it! Kind of goes for the obvious Vikings, samurai, American in WWII group of three you’d expect. A quick little snack movie.
]]>I think Hallmark was really cooking with gas on these personally. But sure let's pivot to cloned white couple Christmas sweater movies that's fine that's cool.
]]>I love a dreamy fake set. Physical artifice is so important to filmmaking, makes it feel alive, its own world. Didn’t hit as hard as I was hoping but not a bad pride watch.
]]>I am asking if the key to black magic is to do naked moonlight flips. Real fun whenever she’s doing a bit of torture on the guys. Doing the most with the effects with little budget my favorite.
]]>Sally Hawkins gives one of the most haunting and evil performances I’ve seen in a long time. Absolutely going to be one of the best performances of the year. Intense movie, incredibly visceral. Those boys are going places.
]]>The opening was so good I was convinced this was going to be a surprise winner for about 30 seconds. And then the rest of it happened.
]]>Not sure the whole thing works completely for me in elongated film format compared to the sketches!
]]>She was pretty badass even before the ghost stuff. A misogynistic society let her down, she would have been unstoppable in a better world.
]]>Oh this is awful! Acting is bad, the editing is off, the pacing is horrendous. Lili Taylor is here for some reason giving the worst performance of her career. Doesn’t feel like the 80s at all, terrible as a time piece. Also what is up with the horror girl who loves the Lost Boys and wears a suit to prom, a strange amount of queer flags. This is no Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 I can tell you that.
]]>Went all in on the immigrant fears right off the bat (you know East, the scary direction). Really fun and a little bonkers. Loved the little bat creatures that showed up at one point and the “manly temptation” card.
]]>Leans into the comedic timing hard. Top tier in an already pretty consistent franchise. Special shoutout to Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head and Richard Harmon.
]]>When the guy is making points but he’s the worst man alive so you it cancels out.
]]>Mr Bava could sure direct a movie. I love artifice, I love sound stages with fake trees, I love light fog, I love intense zooms.
]]>At first I was like "oh fun he has purple eyes and is throwing roses into eyeballs". But good lord is he the biggest misunderstanding what makes Louis in Interview With the Vampire vampire of all time. In a huge wave of "boring comionate vampires" he is by far the most pathetic and uninteresting. "I'm an outcast" is it because you're such a loser?
]]>Some absolutely foul closeups in this. Eyes and bugs and bodily injury all right in your face. Really well done I love being surprised.
]]>Even if I didn’t already know when this came out I could have told you exactly when it came out. The most 90s Macbeth could ever get. James Frain let me talk to you.
]]>The musical stings in the doll room had me dying. There's a lot going on here for a movie that clocks in at barely an hour.
]]>Its silly goofy vibes have enchanted me. The zooms, the music, the sound effects, the acting. Hilarious to me.
]]>Watched on Friday May 2, 2025.
]]>This movie doesn’t really make much sense. The world building is so messy and confused. Which is too bad because the premise is good! It loses the forest for the trees impressively quickly.
]]>More movies should occasionally cut to Lance Henriksen and Michael Wincott traveling in the middle of nowhere. Shooting guys sometimes. Wearing their fun hats.
]]>The holiday video format is cute but it’s so funny how something awful will happen and they just deal with that until the next holiday. The bites and the cat crucifixion thing honestly would have had me moving with a little more urgency.
]]>Obsessed with this. I love the homicidally mad babies. I love how useless and awful the cops are. I love the lead guy never buttoning up his shirt all the way. I love the insanity of a zombie tearing off an entire boob.
]]>There is some sound design in this that made my brain tick. Really sets the stage for later Soderbergh experimentation.
]]>Films don’t care enough about their music anymore. So when there is a movie that not only cares about its score but makes the score so essential to the sound design and editing and overall character that’s irable. A scene so incredible my jaw dropped, my eyes teared up, and I got full body shivers. On top of it all the version of vampires presented is absolutely top tier. Will be incredibly hard to top this for me this year.
]]>There’s a lot going on here. The dramatic zoom in to The Hobbit giving her the idea to name the spider Sting. The mother’s incredibly bad acting. The crazy neighbor feeding the spider-alien cats for some reason. Australian horror movie working real hard to make sure you think it’s American.
]]>This feels like someone who knew that if they made their movie found footage it would be cliche but they didn’t know how to make a low budget movie without the found footage crutch. It occupies this very strange space where it’s not found footage but feels like one anyway. Another in a long line of vague Blair Witch-esque movies that don’t do anything interesting.
]]>Watched on Sunday April 13, 2025.
]]>This was seemingly edited by someone who doesn’t know how movies work but I got over that because I laughed a lot.
]]>I gotta be honest I was perfectly content just watching bisexual Gina Gershon do things.
]]>Pretty quintessential “the wall is coming down soon” film. Top tier soundtrack and score. Includes a shot of the most insane Burger King I’ve ever seen.
]]>This is so strange because there are good scares in here. There are very well crafted horror scenes within this film. But good lord is it the most boring thing I’ve seen all year. We need to ban people from using chapters in films because it’s getting out of hand.
]]>Good bit to of all the slashers decide you want to be Scream 4 and Sleepaway Camp 3. Pretty good as a comedy, struggles as a slasher but it’s fine.
]]>This is not good at all but I did rewind so I could laugh at “wanted to watch you put it back” with Miss Shue stuffing a card back in her shirt 3 times.
]]>Watched on Tuesday April 1, 2025.
]]>What was with that awful nose on the main monster guy? Gave me incredible pause. The distinctive sheen of 2009 on this is intense.
]]>Incomprehensible Pierce Brosnan French accent.
]]>Pretty devastating how you can love someone so much and they are 10 feet away telling someone else that it’s just them there.
]]>Blood so red. Protagonists a little crazy. Zombies a little bit slapstick. Movie so special they just won’t give it an official US release.
]]>This review may contain spoilers.
She’s kind of the anti-Ripley letting foreign organisms run loose. Carried by the crazy visual flashes and fun music but I think that’s alright.
]]>Why would my friend Jackie Kong director of Blood Diner do this to me (bore me)
]]>I cackled when this suddenly turned into a “saving the women from the corruption of the world” metaphor movie when the doctor showed up. Those women so easily seduced by extreme lifestyles such as vampirism. Very silly movie.
]]>I don’t think doing a able impression of your own father counts as acting.
]]>Trying to become someone else and you’ll watch your own life slip away. Dark stuff but I was hollering at some of those lines.
]]>A series of hide and seek stories starring Toshio the meowing boy. Where is our little guy hiding this time? Surprise! It’s behind your steering wheel!
]]>This movie is so funny for doing the Gremlins “try to give one a personality with a defining physical trait” with that xenomorph with the net pattern head.
]]>If a second woman I tried to steal from her beloved died in the cursed pond I’d ask if I was the problem. The spooky ghost music killed me every time it started up.
]]>The killer design is great no complaints there! The comedy was lame, most of the first half past the opening kills is boring, and the leads are anti-charming. If you're going to make a holiday slasher at least shoot for top 3 best for that holiday come on, couldn't even be better than Valentine.
