It's too bad. Anyone could tell the lead actress was giving it all, but it's such a shame she had such cliche, dull stuff to work with.

The only thing I was rooting for was the end credits coming quickly. Come on end credits!

Wow.

A bunch of dudes in the woods present these found footage shorts, and then criticize them for how bad they are. They aren't wrong... but still, what a completely fucked up way to make a film.

Then something happens to them and people talk about how awesome they were.

I was hoping for an homage to those Japanese found footage presentations like Tokyo Videos of Horror or Sealed Video, but I suspect no one on the crew has ever heard of these.

However, the Sirens looked good in the short that wasn't even found footage. Geez.

My fifth and final film in my Eyesore marathon is the clear winner.

I at least two of my "cult film friends" trying to "surprise" me by revealing that they are big fans of this film. I knew something was up though. Despite it looking like a romance involving chic, upper class, wealthy aristocrats it just had to be weird.

And boy is it ever.

This is one of those few films I kick myself for not having seen decades ago. I'm certain it would have shaped me as a film fan.

Is it a dream or a memory? Is it a dream of a memory? Or a memory of a dream? Or both... or neither? Whatever it is, it's a unique experience that will long stick with me.

A must see, and the sooner the better.

My third film in my marathon.

I usually don't like war films. I'm not that fond of watching soldiers kill each other in big battle scenes. And so many of them seem like as much as they're about the horrors of war, they are also very "war is hell, but necessary.... We our troops!!!". Unless it's Vietnam of course. You know, the one they lost.

But I almost always love when SK does war films. There is a deep humanity underneath the "war is hell". Maybe it was because they were fighting against their own countrymen, or maybe it's something deeper. Anyway, SK war films usually affect me pretty deeply. And this one is no different.

Much like a genre of film I do love, the prison film, it's fascinating to see people trying to keep a modicum of morality in an insane, violent world where morality has absolutely no place in. And in Front Line, it is almost apocalyptic in of people trying to be decent, when most have considered themselves dead for years. They should be in hell for everything they've done. And maybe they are.

This exceeded my high expectations with great characters, a gripping story and excellent direction. Every time my son sees an American Sniper or Warfare, I feel the urge to show him something like this immediately afterwards.

The second film in my marathon.

This seemed like a film that I really should love. There's so many ideas going on it I should have been fascinated. It deals heavily with cinema and our "consumption" of it (and it's consumption of us), which should have had me enthralled. Heck, it's got a real Paranormal Activity as an experimental film thing going on at the ending that should have had me glued to the TV screen.

But if I'm being honest, I didn't care about anything or anyone in the film. I actually nodded off twice while watching it, and I wasn't even really tired.

At the moment of writing this review I'm listening to the great Mike White's commentary on the film, which is making me appreciate the film, but I still can't imagine I will like it much more even with a newfound respect.

My first watch in my "5 for $15 rentals at Eyesore Cinema Marathon".

This was fun, but at two and a half hours, the fun diminished significantly after about an hour and forty five minutes. I was ready for the film to wrap things up. And I have nothing against longer movies, if the movie is doing something to justify that runtime, but this felt like an action movie that just was super long for the fuck of it.

Still, good movie with great action and likeable (and detestable) characters, and I'd definitely watch the sequel someday.

One of my favourite things in the entire world is when I throw on a movie and see that it's just a guy (or gal) with a camera and that's pretty much it. And I even love it more when the filmmaker can spin an intriguing yarn while just narrating into his camera. And this is a damned good one.

The story isn't anything you haven't heard before. Someone makes wishes and when they are granted, there's a negative side that's eventually revealed. But along with being well done, there's a superb performance from Chris Vander Kaay (as Chris Vander Kaay). His portrayal of a desperate youtuber who "makes it" only to lose it is fantastic. Funny, pathetic and genuinely sad in parts makes this an easy, breezy watch.

A fantastic one man show from a very talented dude..... or maybe he just wished for it all!!!!

Back in 1998 I managed to scrape together a couple feet of reversal and negative 16mm film and a Bolex camera for 2 days and managed to crank this out. I had a friend who worked in a post production facility where he put the film on to a 3/4 inch tape which we edited it from.

A lot of my friends who I forced to watch this didn't really like it, but hey, I thought it was pretty good considering I had no prep time , shoot time or editing time.

Fun fact, I got evicted from the place I shot this in when one of the crew let my landlord in and he saw the aftermath of the blood scenes.

And I think this is now the MCU's second film about the enemy being seemingly unbeatable depression. But this is a lot more on the surface than Multiverse of Madness.

Also, I love what they did with one of my favourite recent comic characters (recent for me!). They actually handle the character better in the movie than the comics did after the origin story.

This was the first Brian Paulin film I ever saw.

A friend lent me a bootleg, on VHS I believe, of this. As it started, I was getting a kick out of this no budget flick made by obvious horror fans. Then, I started enjoying it. Then, I had to it, I was really liking it a lot. And by the end I was astonished at how fucking awesome it was!

It was a day one purchase when it came out on DVD, and I guess it's a couple weeks purchase now that it's out on blu (I only found out about it on Tuesday). And by the end I'm still smiling from ear to ear at how awesome it is.

Paulin is an all time favourite and now I own two of his movies on loaded blu-rays! What a wonderful time we live in when these SOV films are not only available in the most ridiculously high quality, but are selling really well too! And all Paulin's films merit this. I love his work. What usually could just be a gorefest is always ambitious, has a thought out storyline and is fun as hell.

It fills my heart with pure joy that these kids who were making DIY horror films back in the nineties are still doing it today, despite how tough it has to have been on them. God love em.

I got a confession. I saw this before the TV show.

When the show was on I hated TV. Hated it. Even if it was David Lynch. I thought of it more as a sellout rather than something to get excited about. And by the time I heard "It's actually really good!" and I tried to watch it, I realized there wasn't anyway I was going to understand Jack Shit without having seen it from episode 1. So I waited for the repeats that never came in my small town.

But when this came out, it was a movie! I couldn't wait to see it despite all the negativity. And I loved it! So, I thought the show had to be mainstream, and the reason people hated the movie was because it wasn't pablum. Eventually I watched the show, and it's far from pablum. So people just hated the movie because, as the Green Goblin said, people love to see a hero fail. And I guess it was Lynch's time to fail in audience and critic's eyes. But, time is almost always kind to misunderstood films.

And now I have the missing pieces too! No more just reading about them in Wrapped in Plastic!

Twin Peaks, even season 2, is the best!

It's a good film! It makes me happy while I watch it! But it should be a great film. I mean, the other two were.

There's really no plot other than the "scam". No subplots. No character moments. No crisis either, everything goes according to plan. Which is actually kind of irable that Soderbergh tried to pull of a "pure" heist film with no distractions. He had the characters already established that we already love and we now know how their minds work and all their little quirks. Which makes for an entertaining movie, but little else. There's no stakes. There's no urgency. There's no danger. But, there was a smile on my face through much of the film, so there's that.

I liked this much better on the rewatch too, when I knew what to expect. I'm sure I'll watch it again someday, and maybe I'll like it even more then.

Maybe Nosferatu needed Laszlo and Nadja around.

When this was in the theatres there were so many nights where I thought I was going to go see it. But I always found an excuse not to. I just wasn't that excited about another vampire flick. Sure, it looked shot well, so are fucking all of them, but it looked almost exactly like the dozens if not hundreds of the Dracula (yeah, I know it's not Dracula, but it is) films I've already seen. And after seeing it, I'm glad I skipped the trip to the theatre.

Sure, there's a little bit of uniqueness in the film, but it's crammed in the same old same old. And even worse, I usually give a damn about the characters in the many Dracula films I've seen, but I honestly could give a rat's ass (and there are plenty in the film) about anyone's fate in this. They all felt like movie characters, not human beings.

I love Eggers first two films so much that I will definitely anxiously await his next few films even after being so disappointed by his last two. First you made one of the coolest films ever with Ocean's Eleven, but then you go and make an even cooler film with Ocean's Twelve. Honestly, this is one of his best. Great actors portraying great characters in a not so great script.

I like the core concept of the film, without spoiling much, about someone who wasted life destroying lives, but there are so many "Come on!" moments when nurses aren't looking at one moment and rushing in on the next where it can be a frustrating watch.

Still, I often complain that it is a real shame that audiences have no interest watching films about elderly characters when I'm more than certain there can be incredibly interesting stories told about people reaching the end of their lives. I cannot fathom why people only want to watch young people. This ain't one of those great stories about seniors though, unfortunately.

You know what's crazy?

I absolutely love almost every film Jackie has ever directed. I love when he shows us behind the scenes stuff like in My Stunts or his amazing book I Am Jackie Chan. And even if you were to take away the incredible martial arts and stunts, Jackie makes endlessly entertaining and funny films. And he's one of the few directors who I don't even think twice before purchasing or upgrading one of his films. I adore his work. Yet when I think of my favourite directors of all time, I have never thought of him for a second.

I don't know if anyone has ever looked beyond "It's a Jackie Chan film" to look at consistent themes, directing style, what makes his films unique and other oft studied director's contributions to their films. I mean, there's books on Jess Franco as an auteur but it seems like no one delves into Jackie's films. Maybe there is some book out there treating Jackie as a serious artist. I would buy it.

But for now I'm happy buying fully loaded blu-rays of his work. And I wound up liking this better than the first time I watched it. I think I was probably disappointed that it wasn't the "3 Brothers" again, but I like how Chan made the wacky comedy of part one slightly more serious. The stunts and fights aren't as good as part one, but they're still damned good. And it almost seems like an Elseworlds version of Police Story. The time flew by!

I don't think I've ever had an artists work build in my collection the way Jackie has in the last 3 years. I had a ton of his DVDs, some with special features, but the sheer amount of must own blurays that have come out recently is remarkable. I still haven't picked up Hands of Death, but I probably will eventually. And I'm sure there will be more to come, which I'll be sure to pick up. And I will love those too!

I'm so used to seeing comedy infused in Leroy's films that I was really taken off guard when the bodybag started so sincerely. Sure, I guess these protagonists could still be labelled "hosers", but there's more going on than just beer chugging.

And that sincere first half makes the nightmarish second half work so much better. There are some images that are going to stick with me for a long time. And much like an Evil Dead, once the shit hits the fan, it doesn't let up.

One of those movies where I often hear people who "hate" the film criticize the people who like it rather than the film itself. That's fucked up, man.

I adore this film. While Hollywood was out there making the gangster film classy, Shakespearean and grandiose, DePalma dived into the excess, blood, stupidity and greed that is probably much closer to what a criminal really is. And to have his protagonist be a Cuban refugee that was easily looked down upon by many filmgoers expecting the borderline regal mafiosos seventies cinema had made audiences so accustomed to was brilliant. And also made it a much more potent takedown of the many evils of capitalism.

So, I may be a film bro or I'm watching the film wrong, but I'm sticking with Scarface is an all time masterpiece.

BTW, along with being a film bro, I'm also a hypocrite, because many of the reasons people criticize fans of this I use almost verbatim when I criticize fans of Wolf of Wall Street. I'm such a chazzer.

As entertaining as it is confusing.

There is a lot of great moments, but I was preoccupied trying to keep track of everything that was going on. Plus, wacky Stephen Chow is funnier than brooding Stephen Chow. But luckily, brooding Stephen Chow is still funnier than most people.

Maybe the commentary track will explain everything and then I can pretend I always understood what was going on, peasants!

Fantastic!

Essentially the horror movie of the trilogy. And a mindfuck to boot.

Took me forever to finally get to this trilogy, and now I'm sad that there isn't any more. But, if a boutique label does put these out with great transfers then it may be liking watching them again for the first time!

These should be talked about much more. Inventive, surreal, charming, creepy and funny. These have skyrocketed right up the list of my favourite gumshoe flicks. Damn, they are good.

A hilarious, scrappy short where the audience can see Elytra Collective's style of having extremely comedic characters dealing with a truly scary or fucked up antagonist begin to take fruition. Pitch perfect performances, amazing locations, a great score and surprisingly effective setpieces made the short time fly by. If you were to watch this back in 2016 you would be able guess everyone involved had talent to burn, and you would've been right.

A must watch for Elytra Collective fans.

As much as I love Soderbergh's little films, damn, the guy can kick ass making big films too. If this was made by almost anyone else, I can imagine it being completely disposable.

And there has to be some connection between Soderbergh's love of meticulous heist movies that corelates to his meticulous filmmaking.

I am blown away that Schizopolis 2: Psycho Killer is less than 30 views away from 1000. I'm not lying when I say I honestly never even expected to get 50. So why not celebrate with.... a contest!

You, that's right, YOU can win my VHS copy of Schizopolis bought the day it came out. And I promise not to sign it or mar it in anyway that would affect the resale value. But it's not rewound, that might be a deal breaker with some folks.

All you have to do to win this treasure of long dead media is watch Schizopolis 2 and leave a review, positive or negative on Letterboxd. Once the views are over 1000, I shall draw a name from the reviews and send it to you. That's right. YOU. And if you have already written a review, thanks, and you're included too. So exciting!

When Vinegar Syndrome put The Seventh Curse out on blu as a double feature, I thought, "What the Sam Hell? Seventh Curse is about the last film you need to make a double feature for! Just being available in Region 1, even if it was bare bones, it would still be a must buy. Why include another film?".

But, it's now very understandable. Though I did like Witch from Nepal, I doubt many would line up to buy it on blu. And if you got the rights, why not make it available with a film people are lining up to buy (Look! I believe people are lining up to buy the Seventh Curse blu!). It's almost like a cool bonus feature in that case.

And Witch from Nepal is definitely a very cool bonus feature. It's pretty loopy through most of the film, though never too crazy until the last half hour. And I'm glad I own it by default, though I never would've bought it on it's own. So, thanks Vinegar Syndrome, now I own one of the greatest films ever made.... and this!

Great!

Like the other Elytra Collective films I've seen, this starts out as a great hoser comedy. Not as much beer chugging, but still a core cast that seems torn out of Things. But then the film gets much darker. And that surface level humour goes into the background and becomes very black humour. A real balancing act.

My favourite from the team I've seen so far. Hope they keep er comin!

That was a surprise. I loved this!

First off, the crowd my son and I saw this with was 100% into it. I didn't know what they were cheering and applauding for half the time, but hell, they made it seem pretty awesome. Second, I didn't know this was a Jared Hess film, but boy, is this a Jared Hess film. Great stuff. Third, Black and Momoa are a great duo. I'd go see them in concert. And fourth, I know nothing about Minecraft, but it seems like a really cool game that gives kids the opportunity to be creative and build stuff. Like Lego. I now think it's pretty cool that my son likes to play it.

And I LOVED the call out to Survive Style +5. All they needed was Cake on the soundtrack.

My son wants to see this again, and I'll more than happily go with him. A ton o fun.

A movie is already great just by having Charles Bronson in it.

But when the movie would've been great even without Bronson, that's heaven right there!

The Mechanic is stylish thriller that is more about shitty fathers and rebellious sons than anything action based. Everyone is going to that first 15 minutes, but the rest of the film is top tier too.

One of my favourite Bronson flicks.

The film starts with what seems like three vigilantes killing a rapist. Don't be fooled. The next scene shows these three are far from vigilantes.

A film much like Killers or From Dusk Till Dawn, where hardened criminals meet something even worse than them. Luckily for me, this is a subgenre I usually enjoy. I enjoy this I did. Trashy, low budget somewhat fun.

I'm really glad I was convinced into buying the Lenzi/Milian boxset. These films are a blast.

Almost Human is the straight up masterpiece in the set (I still haven't seen Brothers Till We Die yet), but the rest are pure entertainment. I can see returning to these, not as much as Italian horror, but still quite a bit. And surprisingly it's not because of Lenzi, but Milian. I fucking love him in these movies. What a team he and Lenzi made! Like Bong Joon ho and Song Kang ho! Like DeNiro and Scosese! Like Mifune and Kurosawa! These films are great!

Plus, you get bonus John Saxon, which is always fucking awesome.
