Imo not as strong as From Russia With Love. New director. It’s completely preposterous but also a fun watch!

James Bond in a very short romper during the poolside sequence was a treat. Also loved the fleet of blonde buxom pilots, with Pussy Galore (one of the best Bond names ever) as their fearless sapphic leader. 

Golf sequence was well done, the interplay with Bond and Goldfinger. Enjoyed Oddjob as the henchman. Still early in the franchise, idt they can…

★★★½ Watched

My favorite of the early era Bond films.

Story was interesting and with a better script. Same director, who seemed to have a better grasp on the tone.

Solid start to finish and I especially liked that the characters were more interesting and engaging, particularly the relationship with Bond and Tatiana. 

Bond girl Daniela Bianchi was written with more depth, a genuine purpose. Although Bond’s love interest, she wasn’t reduced to spending the film scantily clad in precarious situations.

A 2024 rewatch marathon late May to early July 

Bllbbllbbbb. It’s very twee. Tom Cruise spends the whole movie either in a short forest sack dress or gold lamé tunic, flashing his loin cloth for all the world to see (and screen shot). His hair is very Breck girl from that era. He‘s beautiful. It’s beautifully made. Cinematography and set design are very good. It has some funny moments and Tim Curry as Darkness was a standout.

A 2024 rewatch marathon late May to early July 

I loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer tv series, tho I was too young to catch it during its original run. I’ve seen Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula. That’s it for my vampire viewing. I’m not drawn to the vampire genre and I’m not usually in to horror, tho this film doesn’t really follow the mold for slasher flicks. I’ve never read the books.
