2020: I watch this in my pajamas during a global pandemic. Reminds me a lot of a Zucker, Abrahams & Zucker movie, but hornier.

Absolutely mesmerizing. There's not much in the way of a cohesive plot but more than enough dreamy atmosphere to make up for it. So many unbelievable and otherworldly images.

All killer no filler

So lo-fi that I could barely track what was happening most of the time. It’s difficult to imagine that less than 5 years later these guys were making Halloween and Alien. What a world.

One of the all-time great hooks -- an everyman pulled into the mystery of solving his own murder. Still, despite that perfect set-up, I felt like the mystery itself was a little thin and rushed, missing the rich style and character that I've come to expect from so many classic noir films. Edmond O'Brien is fine (and perfectly sweaty), but once the fatal prognosis was delivered I wanted to feel every minute slipping away.

Ogami is a real pro, delivers solid, reliable work. Strong recommend.

New York always looks so incredible in black & white. It should be a Movie Law that anything shot in New York can only be filmed in grainy (tasty) black & white.

For a film that did such a wonderful job of documenting a relationship in free fall, that ending rang exceptionally false to me. I can only imagine the years of misery and silent warfare that lie ahead for these two.
