I don't know if I just went into this one with low expectations or what, but I really enjoyed it. Part of it's also surely that I've been hitting Gene Hackman's filmography hard for almost three weeks and it's a rare treat that we get him in lighter fare.

I can't exactly say it has the best action you'll see this year, or that it isn't a lot of nonsense I was particularly invested in, but if you like the idea of Gene Hackman as a man with a particular set of skills, running around Paris and in search of his kidnapped wife, with the help (and hindrance) of son Matt Dillon and some old friends, then I think there's a good chance you'll have a solid time with this one. Just don't go in expecting anything near the level of Hackman's prior two collaborations with Arthur Penn, Night Moves and Bonnie and Clyde.

Over the course of this movie's 72 minute runtime, Nan Collins (Laraine Day) will find out that, as the alternate title suggests, she has just married a communist. As we soon find out, Brad Collins (Robert Ryan) had been a young go-getter just out of college during the Depression, when unable to find work he was seduced by the Communist Party, before finding out it wasn't for him and running off to San Francisco where he became a productive member…
