It’s everything it makes fun of and worse…
I’ve never been able to go to a midnight showing (and in this case a midnight premiere) of a film before so this marks the first time for that and it was a really fun occasion.
The movie itself on the other hand… not so much.
Aside from the approximately first 40 minutes, which were actually pretty fun and good, it is such a letdown.
Repeating the same jokes over and over again doesn’t make it funnier, it just shows how little creativity this film has.
Its story is absolutely pointless and one of the biggest and most insulting disappointments in a long time. Of all the interesting stories which could have been told… this is what they did? So insignificant, so brain dead and so boring.
Dreadful villains. I mean they literally have the entire multiverse to pick from and they chose basically boring and generic nobodies??? I’m not overly fond of fan service but this didn’t even have that! They were so boring I wish I had Ajax back… At least he had a fun dynamic with Deadpool and a personal connection to him.
The action is terrible. It is not engaging at all, not one bit apart from maybe the opening sequence and the car fight, despite it supposedly promising some “amazing” sequences. A big reason for this is due to how Deadpool and Wolverine basically take an unimaginable amount of damage yet they hardly even wince at it. Yes they can regenerate, but that doesn’t mean they don’t feel it or have any sort of physical reaction to those injuries. It felt like watching a child playing with his toys, just smashing them against each other devoid of any sense or reason.
Where tf is Cable? No in universe reason why he is just gone despite the ending of “Deadpool 2” suggesting he would stay. Same goes for T.J. Millers character.
Using the multiverse for cameos was inevitable, and the third act cameo was fun and logical for a “Deadpool” story, but so many cameos were absolutely mind boggling and questionable. Not to mention, what the fuck is the point of a cameo if the original actor isn’t even playing the character??? It’s so ridiculous I can’t even begin to comprehend some of the decisions made in here. And the supposed “theme” of which characters play a part in the film doesn’t even make sense. Just like the rest of it.
And potentially worst of all… it looks so cheap. It looks cheaper than the original “Deadpool” despite having 4X the budget.
I didn’t have particularly big expectations but this couldn’t even meet the bare minimum. I expected at least a some creativity but little can be found here. I knew since the announcement of wolverine being in the film that this would not be a proper Deadpool film, but instead a marvel film that Deadpool stars in. But it does suck that basically all the characters that the Deadpool films have introduced are nearly entirely overlooked and ignored in favor of telling this mess of a story.
For the sake of cinemas, I hope it makes money.
For the sake of quality films, I hope it doesn’t.
What a waste…
