I enjoyed the Substance (2024), but it pushed me right to the edge of my comfort zone, with several scenes creating a visceral reaction in the cinema forcing me to look away. Coming into Revenge (2017), I didn’t know what to expect. Would it be as graphic, in your face, and controversially feminist? After 20 minutes I spotted several stylistic / thematic similarities and realised it would be just as extreme.
