i don’t even want to try and interpret this. i have a few ideas but i really need a rewatch to get a full concrete understanding of this metaphysical, metaphorical masterpiece. i mean i don’t know what else to say that hasn’t been said. masterful cinematography, masterful editing, masterful writing, it’s got everything you need for a masterpiece. i would like to try and get around to this again soon to try and fully grasp its themes on art, nature, philosophy, science and religion.

Tarkovsky is actually an insane filmmaker. from the 3 films i’ve seen from him i have them all at a 4.5 and i only see myself loving them more with time. while i find Solaris to be my least favourite out of Ivan’s Childhood and Mirror, i’m still astounded by this film. I don’t want to say too much, because i feel that to fully grasp this movies themes and story a rewatch is due, but what i find in Tarkovsky films are questions that he raises through his storytelling and meticulous choice in themes. in this i see it as a film questioning human understanding and how much are we willing to let ourselves understand about the universe, a film that questions identity and how nuanced our psychology is. in every tarkovsky i’ve seen and imma take a wild guess that in all his other themes, a very clear and central theme is nature. how we perceive nature, how calming and calamitous it is. a film that raises questions on relationships and the guilt that comes with having strong feelings with others. this really is a truly masterful film and when the rewatch happens in when i try go fully analyse it all, the ending is fucking insane, every shot looks like a painting and this will be a great inspiration for my film in the summer.

Edit:
it’s the next day and i can’t stop thinking about it. idk if i have a least favourite tarkovsky. placed a third for me rn

wowowowowowow, Lucas this is 100% your best film and one of my favourite shorts anyone of my mutuals had made. cinematography is absolutely beautiful and i love every single shot choice, it works so well with the story, it emphasises that every shot matters in this, every cut it’s purposeful. love the change in focus in two shots and the zooms were incredible. i like the colour grading but i think it’s a bit too harsh at points but it still looks really good. the story is absolutely goated as well. very enticing quite funny and really fun. please check this out when it releases, you can watch it for a couple more hours however if you go on his review.

Had a really spiritual experience while watching this that really tapped into my memory and made me think of some really poignant things. this film is all about life and there’s so much told through such small vignettes. it really does go through everything you could think of. At the start of the film however, it’s all about abuse and the feelings of those who have been abused, when the ab dies. will they miss their dad, someone who shapes your life or will you be happy that they are gone? this question never gets a concrete answer, but there a glimpses from both. Once you get older, does this abuse impact decisions later on. there are some really interesting juxtapositions in this film that show this abuse that will always stay with this family. there are so many questions to be asked with this film, but like i said no concrete answers. I’m very happy i picked up the BFI collection of a few of his films because not only are they really powerful at telling profound and tender stories but they are also fantastically made. some of the best framing and visual storytelling i’ve seen in a while. the colouring as well absolutely elite in this. the whole somber feel contrasting some parts feeling really vibrant, hopeful and full of life creates such an incredible atmosphere. check this out if you can.

absolutely fucking phenomenal film. Thank you Morgan for putting me on this, so so happy i watched it. I would go as far to call this a masterpiece, this film just does everything right. Robbie Ryan is easily my favourite cinematographer ever i think. the subtle vignettes in shots, with that really small but effective wide lens feel. the tracking is masterful and never breaks the realism between us and the film. it’s so purposeful and some scenes with this tracking create some of the most tense moments i’ve ever seen in film. the storytelling on display is absolutely masterful and it’s so devastating. it’s dark, it’s depressing but simultaneously it’s like there is this hope throughout. one of the best parts of this film is the subtext. it’s never really explicit at all with exposition, but through the production design and the way the characters are performed and written, it’s enough convey that mia has such a shit life and is living in really horrible space. the ending i think is one of the best i’ve seen in film. it’s such a conflicting ending because you could come up with so many reasons why it’s good and why it’s bad. it reminds me of the Anora ending in a way. just really fucking poignant. the performances are absolutely stellar. Katie Jarvis is absolutely phenomenal and for a debut. really funny and charming and played off Mia’s anger really well. Micheal Fassbender with one of the most impressive performances i’ve ever seen. to quote what morgan said when i was talking about it with him “he’s so charming but there’s something so sinister to his performance” i couldn’t agree more. there is this tension and tenderness built into Mia and Connors relationship that it’s really hard to tell what is at front. really incredible chemistry as well. this film could very much be a 5 on rewatch but for now it’s absolutely stellar.

something i found out with while watching this is that i really need to watch more 40s-50s cop movies because this aesthetic and story i’m absolutely in love with. i have seen double indemnity and i can see the correlation between this and that in the story, cinematography and production design. there is a lot of this i do love, the cinematography and lighting i think are excellent and keep me enthralled the whole time. the wides look incredible and some of the two shot framing looks excellent. some of the framing however i didn’t love fully and i think that if this was fully wide screen, it would of worked a lot better. the score is great and really puts you in that 50s mindset. the performances are phenomenal, Guy Pearce was the best in my eyes. played the smart ass suck up cop so well, i hated his guys to much. everyone else was incredible as well. i do have one issue with someone’s performance but i won’t get into because it’s a spoiler but the performance felt so different from everything else we had seen prior it really took me out of it. this films sense of building realism is incredible, every single scene is filled to the brim with so much life and urgency. The story i’m torn on; while i do think it’s really good, i just can’t help but feel a little disappointed because i think the twist is so predictable, and once you kind of clock the twist, the story just becomes less enthralling and takes a back seat. it is great don’t get me wrong but it feels a little cliche at points. still a phenomenal film, 50s binge coming soon.

Ivan’s childhood has got to be one of the best war films i’ve seen. Tarkovsky is a director i really need to get into more and from the two films i’ve seen, he is him. the way he frames shots, to evoke certain feelings from the viewer, the way that tension is built up is done so masterfully. i strive to have this excellence with how the cinematography is directed. every single tracking shot or zoom is so heavily motivated and it elevates scenes even further, into something memorable and nuanced. i love the tenderness that Tarkovsky brings into this story, specifically during the dream aspects. to have this 12 year old boy have his childhood ripped away from him and have suffering is awful enough and when you have this dream sequences that seem like paradise, it creates this poignant feeling. i don’t want to immediately say that this is the easiest Tarkovsky film to digest but it isn’t very hard and the pacing is great. my only issue with this film is that some parts feel like it’s losing the plot a little and the motivations for some characters to progress the story feel very unclear at points. that first act though, is some of the best filmmaking i’ve ever seen. i will be watching that a lot. absolute incredible anti war film, I would heavily recommend this film.

as a Park Chan Wook glazer, i was going into this expecting it to be his best work. it’s his highest rated film and from everything i heard, it sounded great. so what went wrong?

firstly i want to address my biggest problem, which is that one 3-4 minute sex scene. i have no issue at all with graphic sex scenes in film, as long as it elevates the story, or build a relationship with characters, or it’s the subject matter, it’s all good; but with this i think it went a bit too far. i won’t be getting into spoilers at all with this review but you see a less explicit version of the sex scene and then 40 minutes later it’s the most graphic scene i’ve seen. i understand it’s purpose and i have nothing against it, in Park Chan Wooks film they are very erotic and sex is always used to push a characters relationship further, but it was so off putting and so unnecessary for it to be as graphic as it was. we already got the gist beforehand we don’t need it again.

The story was very underwhelming because when i think of Park Chan Wook movies i think of their incredible story and themes and plot twists but in this it all felt gimmicky. the twists were predicable as hell and how we get to the twists was so uninteresting. it just feel too cliche for a PCW film. i think that this film had no right to be 2hrs 25 as i think a lot of part two i believe was very unnecessary. it took way too long to get to the point. i do think that this is a very clever written script, i can notice the juxtapositions and i can appreciate some of the metaphorical poetic dialogue that PCW likes to put in his films, but i still just find it all to be severely lacklustre. i don’t think the performances are bad at all, but i wouldn’t say they are very memorable. Ha Jung-Woo i belive to be the only memorable and satisfying performance in this film.

Getting into the few positives i have. the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous; there are a few shots that have this blur under the frame which i don’t see any purpose in at all, but aside from that incredible composition. i love the lighting especially in these dark hallways in the house. the way that the camera moves to get every subject in frame was really interesting. The production design is absolutely gorgeous. i felt that time and i felt these different cultures mix so nicely into a house. the music is pretty solid and fit the films tone. the edit is pretty great as well. i think all the cuts feel really well timed and as far as pacing wise goes, it didn’t feel like 2 and a half hours.

Overall, i’m really sad i don’t like it as much as i wanted too, I could see myself giving it a 3.5 on a rewatch or if i think about it a lot but i don’t see that happening.

The Weekend: Hey, i liked your movie waves, i’m really sad right now, i just got broken up with and my fans are crazy as fuck!

Trey Edward Shults: Hey man, i’m sorry to hear that.

The Weekend: Wait a minute….. This would be an incredible film, and i have my album coming out soon, let’s make a movie!

Trey Edward Shults: That’s a great idea! what are your ideas.

The Weekend: hmmmm give me a second…. we take misery and mix it with surrealism, make the film all about me and get the audience to sympathise because i’m not a normal human and i’m a superhuman and they could never do what i do, make it about how i’m heartbroken because no one has ever gone through that before, then a crazy fan and i meet when i lose my voice and she turns out to be a psycho!!!! like all my fans.

Trey Edward Shults: Three questions, who’s gonna play the psycho, why are they a psycho and why make it surrealistic.

The Weekend: Great questions, we’re gonna get Jenna Ortega because everyone loves her. We’re gonna make her a psycho and make this surrealistic because we’ll be cool and arthouse and that’s cool. also we’re gonna film it in 4:3 because arthosue.

Trey Edward Shults: Sounds great to me!

The most self absorbed, self in titled film i’ve ever seen. no redeeming factors at all. (the score was pretty good).

Very few films in my life so far have made me go after “what the actual fuck did i just watch”. After The Zone Of Interest, i’ve wanted to check out Glazers filmography and this was my most anticipated and i don’t even know what to think. i’m not going to try and come up with any interpretation or analyse it. i’ll just wait until the rewatch for that (low-key might watch it tomorrow). for now what i will say is that this is one of the most incredible audiovisual experimental films i’ve ever seen. the score is some of the best i’ve ever heard. music storytelling at its very finest. cinematography is an absolute joy to watch. incredible wides and some i love the anamorphic lenses so much. the lighting is so fucking interesting as well. i love the way everything is lit especially in the “void” and nightclub scenes. Scarlett Johansen was fucking incredible. so much prowess with the way she uses her face. it’s insane how well she did at communicating her performance without any dialogue. she is one of our generations goats. i few themes i picked up on are the themes of nature, observation and love. it’s so surface level but it’s all i have. i need a rewatch and i 100% see myself loving this with every watch, but it’s 1:49am right now and i have no clue what to think right now.

Ferris Bueller, De La Soul and RIOT, most peak film ever. easily my favourite soundtrack to date. it was so fucking peak. every song is a certified banger. the score as well is absolutely beautiful and has made it into one of my favourites. im not gonna try describe why it was good it just so sexy. animation is absolutely stunning and i think it’s absolutely beautiful what ITTSV has done with animation. i think it really suits tmnt really well. also i want of say i’m not a massive tmnt guy. i watched the show and the movies and had the action figures but i would never say that the show was one of my favourites. i would call this one of my favourite animated films. i don’t care if i’ve seen it once i absolutely adore it. really great story with some great character development that seems cliche but is done so well because of the story. a film finally got Gen Z lingo right 🫶🏻. the action is peak. it’s so funny and charming. it’s just got everything i want to call a film endlessly rewatchable. incredible film.

Twin peaks might be the only show ever i’ve been dying to watch and i watched the international pilot today and it’s a banger. before i get into it though idk if this is a problem with the disc but i bought the complete mystery on blu ray and when the police and asking Sarah (Laura’s mum) questions, i just completely skips a couple seconds. i tried the original pilot and it did the same thing. Anyway I digress, this show is absolutely fucking peak. i’m already hooked and am so happy i have the first 2 seasons and fire walk with me. i’m so hyped to watch it all. the cinematography and composition is absolutely stunning, i adore all of the lighting choices. interior shots look great, the lighting in those are exceptional. the camerawork is insane and the visual story it presents is great. the camera only moves to move the characters in a sense and get us closer to what’s happening. the production design is gorgeous. i love the autumn feel and how vibrant it all is. i will try and read the screenplay asap. the dialogue is masterful. the way it builds it’s characters up and to present them in this raw manor is truly spectacular. i feel like i understand all of them on a personal level and can understand their morales and choices. the story is elite. i’m so hooked. the whole mystery is so alluring and so well thought out and put together so meticulously, i can’t wait to watch more. the score might be the best ever put to film as well. overall, a beautiful pilot that has truly enticed me.

just keep in mind everything i say is someone who has never played one of the games (i really want too tho). it’s not bad at all, it’s a little dull and uninteresting at points but there are some things to like. the atmosphere is incredible and from some of the footage i’ve seen from the games, it was translated well. loved the production design and the lighting was incredible. every colour looked so good. cinematography is alright. i don’t like how the camera is always moving. it’s alright to have a static shot. the performances are okay at best. sometimes it’s quite poor but for the most part it’s alright. the music is so sexual. oh my goodness. it’s so good. it’s so fucking good. built this perfect vibe and atmosphere and really matched this bleak and nightmarish story. the story is alright. idk if it’s the same from the games or a new story with similar themes but it’s okay. the end tho. the end is fucking incredible. i love it so much. big respect to Rodger Avery for adapting this into a film. the editing and sound design are very flawed as well. some cuts feel really awkward and i don’t like how the horror is edited. the sound design also feels really unrealistic and it’s so obvious it’s foley. last thing is the cgi is so bad. i don’t care if it’s from 2006 it’s not good at all. really took me out of the horror. after a while i got used to it but it’s really bad. very excited to see return to silent hill.

Very happy i got to say i was apart of this. I am a fan of this short. Nick does a great job at creating such dullness doing mundane tasks and also the dullness of being alone. I like the cinematography. Great framing and a nice selection of shots. The editing as well is really good, has a nice beat to it. Very simple plot but told very well.

firstly happy birthday Tia i hope you have a great day, secondly, a year ago today my filmmaking started with Knock Knock. i just want to look back on the year and reflect on my films then gives some thanks to people.

Knock Knock..
Knock Knock was my first film and i still don’t totally think it’s all that bad. don’t get me wrong it isn’t good but there are points that i do think are quite effective. the field part i really like and i do really like the ending. there is a lot of flaws in this. i do just want to thank jagger for editing this for me. he is kind of the sole reason that Knock Knock did come out. First giving me inspiration to make a short film because i saw that it doesn’t require a large scale to make one. after i shot everything in 4k then realised after that my laptop can’t run 4k, he kindly offered to edit and there are lot of parts in the edit i like. the colour grading is really nice and i think a lot of the cuts are well timed. some of the transitions i don’t think work well now and there are a few cuts that should of been cut earlier because of some sound issues, but i will forever be thankful for Jagger for editing this. The cinematography in this is okay as well. nothing special but nothing overtly good. I still like Knock Knock and it will always hold a special place with me.

Straight Red
about 3 weeks later i followed Knock Knock with straight red. this is bad. i already know that this is really bad. i have a .5 review on straight red. there isn’t much to say about it that hasn’t been said. i’m grateful it exists because i now know what not to do with a short film, but everything just went wrong with this. i’ve seen a few people ask where to watch it. i have it on private. i don’t wanna get into the reasons on why it’s private. it’s not because i’m embarrassed by it or because it’s bad, i will always own up to it being bad, but it was just better for my mental health to put it on private. George asked me a great question about straight red, which was “do you see straight red as your film and something personal to you.” I first said no but then i realised that the whole point of this film is about football. i don’t really talk about sport a lot online but i adore sport and it’s been a huge factor in my life and this film has sport in it. I hate straight red a lot but maybe one day i’ll put it on public again but for now we leave it in the archive.

A Day In The Sun
A day in the sun might be my favourite work. I should have put this on Letterboxd and i really regret not doing that but it’s okay. i’ve learnt my lesson. A day In the sun was really fun to film, taking about 2-3 days i think. it wasn’t long. I think from Straight Red to this is a massive achievement. I love my surreal approach to this film, my whole goal with this film was trying to get as many interpretations as possible and i have a lot. i like the cinematography a lot. the framing could be a bit better. the editing i think is quite good. this was my first ever attempt at colour grading and it isn’t that bad. the soundtrack absolutely slaps hard. this is also the film i watch the most. i’ve definitely seen this over 10+ times. i really enjoy it, obviously it could be a lot better but for a follow up to straight red, i’m really proud of it.

My Friend, Jackson
my latest film and definitely my best made film. this is also my most personal film. i will not get into why but i think i needed to make this as a sort of therapy session. i’m really proud of the story. i think i executed all of my feelings perfectly into this. maybe it isn’t clear to you lot but to me i’m happy with it. Josh was easily the best part of that film. i really like his performance. the monotonous approach to the delivery of his lines. his facial expressions are great as well. Tia was great as well with her voice acting. her being in it means the absolute world to me. As far as the filmmaking goes i’m proud of it. i’m watching it as i type this. i’m proud of it. the cinematography is quite nice. i love the tracking shot at the end. the sunset shot is gorgeous (i’m so proud of that, it took like 1hr 40 to get it right). i do wish i went more surreal with the cinematography i think that would of worked a lot better. i adore the third act of this film. easily the best sequence in my filmography. the editing i’m proud of. The music in this i really love. Joe Boccia Jr with an absolutely beautiful song in the climax that works like a charm. adds to the surreal nature of it all and i think adds so much more emotion to the climax. George as well. More than a brother is such a beautiful song and i adore the gesture of you offering to give it to me for this film. i was teared up listening to it. i love the voice editing at the end. i think it sounds great. the colour grading could be a lot better (wish i didn’t contrast everything) but i like the vibe still. the actual timing of cuts is alright as well. my weakness right now is definitely dialogue editing. the dialogue scenes in this have not been cut well. but with Phobophobia i hope it will be a lot better. Lastly, something else i think that is holding this project back is the sound. this was my first time doing sound on a tascam and microphone and it sounds okay. could be a lot better but it isn’t the worst thing ever. last last thing was the absolute nightmare this was production wise. i’m happy it’s out and i would never wish the production on this film to my worst enemy. overall i like MFJ a lot, i’m proud of it but there’s still lots to improve on.

Projects
Right now i have 2 projects, those being Phobophobia and Fates Aligning. I’ll talk about Phobophobia first since that’s what i intend to release first. i’m starting production tomorrow. it’s a two day shoot, Saturday and Monday. definitely my most ambitious project. I have a make up artist (Manuela) coming to do some makeup on this film which is gonna be sick. My mate Bevan is gonna star in it which is great. Josh is making an appearance again. I’m also gonna be acting but it’s a very minute role. the plot of this film is an unnamed protagonist is walking home one day and they see an unconscious body, they decide not to help and guilt starts to come over them, so they try do something about it. something i’ve noticed is that i have trouble trying to describe my films without spoiling it 😭. i’m happy with the script and i have a good vision in my head and i hope it gets replicated when we film. My intended release date for Phobophobia is either May 16th or sometime very close after that. The coolest thing for the end. As a lot of you know i am in a group of filmmakers called small shot pictures. one of the is JT Miller and he released an album on the 21st of March (same day mfj came out) and that album will be the score for Phobophobia. i’ve listened to the album a lot and i think it’s gonna work really well.
As far as Fates Aligning goes i have a trailer on my tiktok. Over the past few months i’ve been getting really into Avant Garde cinema and this is my first attempt at it. This film is also very inspired by Scot Barleys work (specifically Hinterlands, which i heavily recommended you check out). I’ve shown it to a few people and they liked it a lot which is great. The one piece of advice i will give once it releases is interpret it how you want too. there isn’t a right or wrong answer. i have my interpretation in my head and that’s the story i aimed to make in this film, but if my interpretation differs from yours, i adore that and would love to know what you lot think. that will release sometime in June probably.
The only other thing i can say about an project is i have a concept for a big film in the summer. i need to flesh it out a lot but i will say think of my friend jackson mixed with taste of cherry.

Links To People Who Have Helped Me Out
imma link some of the incredible peoples work or s so you can check them out. from the bottom of my heart i really do thank everyone for checking my films out. i’m so happy that this has gone on for a year and i hope it continues for a lot longer. thank you all for the . All the positives and the negatives mean the world to me. especially the negatives because the do help out the most. feel free to watch all of this stuff it would mean a lot to me.

the strokes are my favourite band/artist ever and this concert fucking SLAPS. is there a lot of bias in this 5/5, yes but i do really like a lot of the filmmaking choices in this. i adore the lighting so much and do think that concert films are heavily underrated visually. some of the best lighting i’ve seen have come from concert films. it’s so creative and specific and stylistic. the cinematography is really nice and in a concert film it has to have some really great editing to pair it up to keep a good beat. really good in this. lovd the tracking shots and love the framing. i also love the home video analogue style. the strokes are easily the best indie rock garage band and it gives off that vibe. now i will say, i don’t know if this is because of the youtube video or if this was a choice from Roman Coppola, but the audio was not the best. like it was good but it kept changing styles if that makes sense, and it cut out sometimes and went really loud at points. i’ll give it the benefit of the doubt but audio was still good. you pair all of this up with my favourite album of all time is this it, and it’s just perfect. I love Julian so much, he’s such a fucking nutcase. someday is my favourite song ever made and the band sounded incredible live. i really hope i can see them one day. i adore the strokes and i will be coming back to this quite a few times in the future.

keep in mind with this review that i’ve played like 2 hours of the game. I did not like Until Dawn though but i want to start off this review by saying that there is fun to be had. if you want a horror that’s just a shut your brain off gory thrilling jumpy horror, you’ll get something out of this. I’ll start with my very few positives which are one there some quite cool kills in this. there was one that did make me laugh. i’m not gonna sit here and act like they were the most innovative and creative kills ever, but they were cool. the gore looked really good as well. the one other positive is the story. more the themes and commentary it’s saying, but i’m sure if you just played the game it would be a lot better of an experience. I love what it’s saying on the ethics of a psychological experiment and the participation rules and how they go to very extreme lengths to get some understanding of their field. that was really interesting. i also liked how it like said stuff about life. it sounds like a stretch but everytime they are about to die they say we should do this but don’t. but on the last go they actually do it. it’s like we should treat everyday as our last and just go for it and battle against our fears 😦😦😦.

I’ll try be brief with the negatives because it’s quite a long review already. firstly the story is very convoluted. the longer they stay in this loop they start to develop into monsters, but 2/5s of the characters developed. why didn’t the others? makes no sense. i also wish we had more exposition on the characters. something i loved about the game was that we spent a lot of time with the characters before some horror started to happen. we got to form our own relationships with the other characters. we chose who we liked who we didn’t. it was cool. in this we get thrown straight into the point no background at all on any of the characters. why should i care about them. Abe and Clover were the only reasonable characters. Abe was an ass tho for no reason so he gets minus points. visually it’s really bland. there are some nice shots here and there, and i really like the warm lighting, but it just feels really uninspired. the direction is really stale. there was nothing that this film did that made me feel immersed or impressed with anything it did. i don’t think that this film is a bad translation from the game but maybe if Sandberg made the story a bit more thrilling and inspired, i would of enjoyed the story and actual filmmaking more. I know until dawn is very campy and there was camp in this, but some of it was really insufferable to sit through. the cringiest 2000s dialogue that felt really out of place. For an 103 minute film, the pacing was really bad. it felt like 2 and a half hours. maybe that’s because i didn’t care for the story but it felt like a long time. i wasn’t necessarily bored though. lastly the horror is just okay. some good tension here and there and a few okay jump scares but it all feels predictable so the horror at the end of the day is just meaningless.

It could have been worse but it could have been a lot better. i’m sure fans of the game will enjoy it and it’s an okay time but didn’t do anything for me.

put this one while i was revising and it’s still a banger. incredible commentary on skeptics. even when the proof is so hard, they will always try and find a way to de bunk it. the horror is really good. that third act i still love on a rewatch. i when this came out one of the complaints was about the third act but it’s so eerie and made me really creeped out at a few points. sent a strike in my stomach. the visuals are still goated. love the aspect ratio switch. the bts stuff has grown on me a good chunk as well. i also love the authenticity in the cinematography. i’ve been been a big late night person, but a few years ago i just watched late night clips and the movement and shots in this feel really similar. performances are still absolutely goated. would love Dastmalchian to have more leading roles. from listening to a few interviews he did, he was so ionate about this role and took it with such seriousness i really respect it. i do wanna talk about the AI stuff since it’s been a year since its release. AI in the past year has been used in more and more films. in flight risk there was a small scene that was used generative AI. The brutalist used AI to enhance Brody and Jones’ accents and also for some blueprints new the end. I think it’s quite funny that a 3 second clip in this we were all outraged but a year later it’s gotten so much worse. all i have to say is it’s very obvious that AI is going to be implemented into filmmaking now. it’s easier and it saves studios money. I don’t see the AI in the brutalist as an issue. In flight risk that is. In this film it is not. I think as film lovers and filmmakers, it’s something we have to get used too and as long as the filmmakers are honest that they used it and it was used with good intention, i personally see no issue with it. as long as it doesn’t take any artistic values away or changes the film completely i think we just have to accept it.

i really don’t the last time i got this mad at a movie. Rebecca De Morney truly a masterclass in acting. through the direction in story and her dialogue and just her overall performance, created one of the most dislikable characters i’ve ever witnessed in cinema. everything she was doing with her eyes was absolutely incredible. I saw some Jack Torrance influence in her character. incredible cinematography. Robert Elswit is truly one of the best cinematographers of all time. it also makes sense that this was a movie he did. Both this and Punch Drunk Love made me want to crawl out of my skin that’s how tense it was. there are some things that are really holding it back from a higher score. the climax is rather predictable (although i completely adore that it switches genre to a horror) and there is one part that is so dumb. it is the most stupid thing i’ve seen in a while. I need to check out more of Hansons work and i think this is my sign to watch LA Confidential. i adored his direction throughout and he really does grip you in the moment Payton enters the house right until the end. a really incredible thriller.

some absolutely fire and stylish cinematography that i absolutely adore. the low angles and pans were so smooth and looked so great. absolutely loved the colour as well. that scene underneath the bridge looked so incredible. it’s a very dark film so if you do go watch it be careful. there are parts that are very hard to watch. some parts feel very Harmony Korine and some parts feel very Micheal Haneke but it still has its own voice which i love. I really like the story and thought that was handled really well. it didn’t feel disingenuous or out of order at any point and did feel very authentic. i never glorifies anything that henry does but it gives you a sense of sympathy once you realise how shit of a life he has has, you can understand the motivations but again it never makes him feel like the victim. i absolutely adore all the performances, i can’t believe that Micheal Rooker is in this, he was fantastic. i would definitely check this out if you can, it’s great.

the fastest i’ve ever been to go see a film twice in the cinema. i can’t get enough of sinners. i adore films that are directors ions projects and this is easily one of the most ionate films i’ve ever seen. every decision feels so distinctive and meaningful and it’s all done so meticulously. Coogler creates such a beautiful film about music and how it helps us connect with our ancestors, it also showing us that our ancestors will always influence us and help us create new waves of music. the story is even more impressive on that second watch because you can understand the double meanings and all of the metaphors and subtext behind it. the cinematography is just as impressive as before. i adore the one takes in this. that one take (you know the one i’m talking about) has grown on me so much. one of the most important and profound pieces of filmmaking for a while. it’s beautiful. lastly i want to talk about the post credit scene. i’m not going to say anything about but i want to say the things it’s messaging. life is a finite, it will come to and end, if you get the choice to live forever would you take it? if you take that offer, the consequences are that everything we do becomes belittled and holds no meaning. things must come to an end and once you’re near the end, that’s when everything feels is special and unique. why live a life that will never end? why live a life with no meaning? Can’t wait for sinners on blu ray.
