Marvelous, meditative take on the SciFi genre, smart enough to leave so much unknown that it becomes truly creepy. The acting is all fine (Pat Neal is always a good time, and Michael Rennie looks anything but ill here), but it's the effects, the insightful (and timeless script), and that ambiguous ending that make it a (deserved) classic. The sort of movie I'd allow might get better the further we get into repeat viewings.
