Sonic the Hedgehog 3

2024

★★★★½ Watched

"Deadpool & Wolverine", take a good hard look. This is how you do an action-comedy filled with meta- and popculture jokes and an ending themed around self-sacrifice.

Sonic somehow proves to be one of the most fun and well-put-together franchises of the year 2025. Wouldn't have expected that when that awful trailer dropped in 2019.

Sonic 1 had it's issues with it's comedy-balance and CGI. Sonic 2 had pacing and plot issues. Sonic 3 has learned from those and delivers a…

Den of Thieves 2: Pantera

2025

★★★★ 1

Den of Thieves 2 does away with the American machismo of the first movie and replaces it with a much lighter Eurocrime vibe. Honestly...? It kind of rules.

The films themselve illustrate their difference best with their vice of choice. 1 was fueled by cocaine and Jack Daniels, setting a high pace and having its leads in constant tense confrontation. 2 meanwhile is weed and ecstaty, a much more mellow affair focused on the developing friendship between on/over-the-edge-of-the-law cop Nick…

Lilo & Stitch

2025

★★½ Watched

The new Lilo & Stitch is not awful, but never compares favourably to the original.

The first half of this works pretty well, but that part part pretty much mirrors the original. It's when the movie starts deviating from the original story, that it suffers.

I kind of get the choice to focus more on Nani, it takes some of the load of the child actress playing Lilo. Unfortunately, in doing so, it takes away the great way the original portrayed…

Thunderbolts*

The second hairstyle disaster involving a Bob this year after Snow White

--

Thunderbolts* doesn't exactly breathe new life into the MCU, but it's a fine stopgap on the road to bigger things.
And honestly, after the narative failures of "Deadpool and Wolverine" and "Brave New World", that's plenty for now.

That's not to say it's among the greatest Marvel movie. Pugh caries the movie with a very charismatic performance, but in her having to do that, lies also the…

Alien

1979

★★★½ 1

How do you even rate a movie that is objectively great, but you did not care for at all?

Because Alien is, at least from a technical standpoint, a masterpiece. The set and monster design are amazing. The special effects are cutting edge for the time, and nearly all hold up even almost 50 years later. The sound design slaps. And Weaver is an absolute force of an actress.

But at the same time, it also combines two things I…
