A very nice way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants. It is very delightful, silly, and it gets heartwarming at the end. I got to give everyone behind the scenes a lot of credit for their dedication with the live-action sequences and how much time I am sure it took for the animation to mix with the live-action sequences. I definitely felt their commitment to delivering on that and I do think they did. The ending also makes me very happy as a longtime fan of the show and I think it serves as a satisfying conclusion for Patchy the Pirate. Everyone singing SpongeBob happy birthday was absolutely perfect. There are issues like some jokes not landing, I do think the scenes with Sandy and everyone at SpongeBob's house can drag a little bit, and as cool as it was to see the voice cast film the live-action scene, it did not translate well for me and it still doesn't on my rewatches. I am grateful that the cartoon has lasted as long as it has and I am glad it got to celebrate its 20th anniversary back in 2019 and I am pretty confident that it will reach its 30th anniversary special in 2029. I am looking forward to whatever they have planned for 2029. Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SPONGEBOB!

I hate being a downer, but Dead Reckoning and now Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning just aren't doing it for me. This franchise has proven how exciting it can be from III-Fallout, but I am not feeling the excitement anymore. Look, that biplane sequence in the climax was absolutely incredible. It was EASILY my favorite part about this whole movie. The submarine sequence was another exciting set-piece as well. But, these sequences are so far and between that I can't say struggling through the most boring exposition just to get to those moments was worth it.

What I thought Dead Reckoning lacked in which were the stunts and an intriguing narrative, this one feels like it actually lacks even more of than that movie. There were far less stunts in this one. When there is action which is mostly hand-to-hand fighting, the direction and editing is honestly not very strong. I don't know what happened because I know Christopher McQuarrie can direct great fights but I have felt the fighting scenes just don't have the same weight to them as before and the editing just feels too rapid now. I think the choreography is very good, but the filmmaking isn't up to par with the choreography in my opinion.

Whereas I felt the runtime with Dead Reckoning after a while, I truthfully felt the runtime even more with this one (I was worried about that going in and my worries were met). There should be no reason to be almost 3 hours long, especially when the majority of that runtime is just the most stoic exposition dump possible. I don't feel these previous two movies are as clever as it thinks it is either. Instead of explaining over and over again about the entity and the state of the key, just allow the audience to put the pieces together. It frustrates me because I feel like it is just talking down on me as audience member and then it thinks it is so clever by throwing so many " this?" moments from the other installments, when it just feels forced. I think the nostalgia maybe worked for a few things, but otherwise, it did not need to get so ridiculous with all of the callbacks.

I think what also really bothers me is how underutilized Ethan's team is starting to feel now. Hayley Atwell is obviously getting more to do and I am glad because she is a fun addition but Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames feel more like background characters. Their personalities feel like they are stripped away now. Even when it tries to reach for more of an emotional core, it doesn't work. It attempts to be the most emotional one in the franchise but I didn't think it felt earned with how it was done (only a little bit with Luthor and that's only because of his history with Ethan in this franchise). Pom Klementieff is once again not very compelling and Isai Morales continues to be one of the lamest villains in this franchise. I don't believe he serves as an interesting threat to Ethan. The writing for him just feels rather lazy.

There is also far too many characters here. I know the franchise normally tends to have a lot of characters but I also felt there was that balance with some of the past installments. In this installment, it jumps around to so many characters that I truly cannot care about even if my life depended on it. There was no personality when it came to any of the new additions. For goodness sakes! You get talents like Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham in this cast and you cast them in roles that anybody could have played?! Are you serious?! I know this is being marketed as the final installment and if it really is the final installment then I think it is a sad way to go out. This franchise can do better than this. I know it can.

As much as I really ire what Christopher McQuarrie accomplished with Rogue Nation and Fallout, I am getting to a point where I do think a new director should take on this franchise. I think having a new director can keep the franchise alive like it did when J.J. Abrams was brought on to direct Mission: Impossible III or when Brad Bird was brought on to direct Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. This is no disrespect to Christopher McQuarrie as I am a huge fan of Jack Reacher, Rogue Nation, and Fallout, but I think this franchise is feeling tired now. A couple of amazing set-pieces cannot save how absolutely bland the storytelling has become.

I hate being a downer, but I do it because I want to root for something to be more than it actually is. I don't want to accept mediocity when I know it can be better than that. If this franchise does come back and I do think it will come back one day (there is no such thing as a conclusion with Hollywood these days), I hope it has a new director with a fresh voice and I hope it can be exciting again. I do got to respect Tom Cruise's hustle though and that's another reason I am frustrated with this franchise now because he works his absolute butt off to deliver on the best theatrical experience possible, and he deserves a better script to match with his physicality.

I really don't think Christopher McQuarrie gets enough credit for his direction in Jack Reacher. His filmmaking here is so dang good. His eye for camera work throughout very much impressed me. The editing here is also very good doing a top notch job of keeping the 2 hour and 10 minute runtime feeling breezy. Although, it isn't an action movie, the two action sequences (being the car chase scene and the climax) were so effective without any score playing. I think using no music for the action sequences added to the intensity. Despite not being blond and tall like I know the titular character is supposed to be, I do really dig Tom Cruise's take on this character. I liked how tough as nails he was while also having intrigue to his character at the same time. I can respect Christopher McQuarrie for taking on the Mission: Impossible franchise after this movie, but on the other hand, I want to see what else he can do outside of that franchise, because what he brought to this film was genuinely riveting. It deserves to be talked about more.

Also, it was fun to get a Days of Thunder reunion between Tom Cruise and Robert Duvall in this film.

Believe it or not, I never watched Stuart Little 3: Call of the Wild despite growing up with the first two movies (both still hold up for me to this day). 20 years later, I decided to finally watch it and I didn't miss anything here. While the third film being fully animated was a bizarre choice for this franchise, I think there still could have been a way for it to be enjoyable, but instead it is forgettable and very boring. Only reason there is even a bit of charm left is because of Stuart Little himself. He is still the likable mouse that I know and love, but he is surrounded by such a nothing story and the antagonist was just bad. I really didn't care for the camping storyline either, even though it should have been way more enjoyable. I think I prefer to pretend the first two movies exist as a duology, to be honest. It really felt more like a TV special with cheap animation than an actual third movie anyways.

Russell Crowe really read this script and decided he's going to eat up every single unhinged moment. Respect to him honestly! Absolute cinema! 🙌

Look, I enjoy my "so bad it's good" movies but The Toxic Avenger felt so desperate in trying to be "so bad it's good" that it completely turned me away from enjoying it. It has bits of funny moments here and there, but I found it mostly irritating. As an irer of amazing dumb cinema, it didn't land for me.

You seriously mean to tell me not ONE person behind the scenes told the director and editor to trim down the runtime?! Not... one... person?!

2 hours and 26 minutes is a ridiculous runtime for Sex and the City, especially for a movie that should have been an easy 1 hour and 30 minutes or 1 hour and 40 minutes.

I do respect what Thunderbolts* was aiming to be, but I can't help but feel underwhelmed by how surface level it felt with its writing. I didn't feel they dived deeper into the characters and I do think the themes of depression, trauma, and mental health felt surface level for the first two acts. The third act is where I thought those themes actually did hit home and felt a lot more important to the story. Despite having a more mature tone than most of the recent MCU films, it doesn't feel like it stands out that much. I do feel if it went more into those themes, it could have been one truly impactful film, but sadly, I didn't feel that way and some of the pacing wasn't that good either. It is a step in the right direction, but I did expect more from it at the same time.

Florence Pugh and Lewis Pullman knocked it out of the park with their performances though. Shout-out to them!

Considering this is a political comedy where Chris Rock is the President of the United States, I would have expected this to be a lot funnier but it really isn't that funny.

It is crazy that this movie released in 2003 and then four years later, Barack Obama was elected as POTUS, so that's really cool that the movie was ahead of its time in that way.

A guilty pleasure time. I can't say it has a good story per say. It is dumb, but it's entertaining to watch (VERY violent, too). I think between J.J. Perry's previous film Day Shift and The Killer's Game, he seems to be a guilty pleasure director so far. It is better than making boring movies so I will give him that credit.

The action sequences had very good choreography though, and the cast, especially Dave Bautista and Terry Crews, were fun.

It started out as cute and funny until it wasn't anymore.

Shout-out to The Hating Game for playing the songs "Dover Beach" by Baby Queen and "Alligator" by Of Monsters And Men though.

Also, it should've been called The Smurfing Game instead because the amount of smurfs in this movie is something.

But I'm a Cheerleader has an interesting premise, but I found the comedy to be very one-note. I know the goal is to point out the stereotypes with the gays and lesbians and how people react to them not being "normal", but I didn't feel they did anything with this concept. I didn't find it funny almost at all and I just kept watching with an empty face hoping it would get better and it never does, despite the cast being committed to the material. The way it ends was also very strange as well. I'm glad it has a following, but I can't say I'm on the boat with this one.

You clearly feel Clint Eastwood's love for the western genre with Unforgiven. A movie that just sweeps away with its gorgeous cinematography (those sunset shots are chef's kiss), beautiful score, excellent direction, and great writing. Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman have such a great dynamic throughout the film and Gene Hackman plays the villain so brilliantly. It was simple but very effective storytelling that worked a lot of wonders because it was never overly complicated. Amazing work!

I genuinely felt so baffled and disgusted while watching Compliance. I mean that as a compliment as that is what the movie is supposed to do. This is one of those movies where you think to yourself "There is no way this would actually happen in real life" but this is based on a story that actually happened. I did research after watching this movie and it is actually very accurate to what was portrayed on screen so credit to director Craig Zobel for keeping it real and not trying to take major creative liberties with the story.

What truly baffled me is how this prank caller that is pretending to be the police tells the manager everything to do regarding what her employee should do (who the caller says stole money from a customer which is false), the manager never once acts on the situation and finds suspicion. The poor employee is forced to strip naked and the manager's fiance commits sexual acts on the employee while the manager isn't around?! If there is anything to learn from this movie, it is listen to your instincts and if the "police" is telling you to "do the job for them" then that is a sign that it is NOT the police. The fact this happens all over the United States is truly sickening.

A very well done movie, but it did leave me feeling angry and repulsed once it was over. I watched *Big City Greens" after watching this movie because I needed to calm my mind.

Why was the gangster subplot in this movie?! What the hell was that?!

Ryan Coogler truly made a banging good movie with Sinners. An impressive genre-blender that delivers on the music, atmosphere, and vampire madness. I really do think it is Ryan Coogler's best made movie so far in his career. It has some seriously beautiful cinematography, especially when it takes place during the daytime. The night time scenes (which I feel most movies these days don't know how to properly light up) were actually well lit. Please lighting department! Let's make night time scenes look good again like how this movie did it. The whole ensemble does such a great job! Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, Miles Caton, Jack O' Connell just really disappearing into their roles. This is Michael B. Jordan's best work to date. How he portrayed his dual roles was genuinely so seamless and I really enjoyed the chemistry between the cousins. I think every character has great interactions throughout, if I am being honest. The story does a very strong job of going in unexpected places without ever losing itself. And the way everything wraps up feels so satisfying. I loved that epilogue in the mid-credits scene (please do not walk out during that, it is very important). 2025 needs to pick up with its quality of movies, but this is one that, no question, will not be forgotten from this year by me. ART!

P.S. this was ABSOLUTELY worth seeing in IMAX! I recommend seeing it that way if you can! 🙌

One of those movies where I ire the practicality and overall aesthetics more than the screenwriting and overall execution. I am so sorry, Kyle Mooney.

Short film: Meowjick

My friend Jordan and his team were part of a 48-hour competition called AniJam and they had to work around a 1-minute runtime. Just want to say I give everyone respect for even working that tirelessly as I don't think that is something I can do.

I do think a few more minutes could have helped the story as I saw the potential with it, but because it was one minute long, the story wasn't clear enough for me and I would liked to see more development for the characters. The animation looks very good and I think the fact that the team managed to do that one minute for the span of 48 hours is truly irable.

Wow, man! I genuinely don't know what I watched but Marmaduke is... ABSOLUTE CINEMA! Incredible performances and incredible CGI all-around! Amazing soundtrack that definitely fits the movie as well.🔥🤌

I'm a really big fan of the Nickelodeon show! I really enjoy the silly and cartoony humor, the characters, the performances, and the awesome songs that the band delivers on.

That being said, Big Time Movie was big time rushed. The premise is that the boys go on a world tour and you would think that's a great idea for a movie as it could have explored them going from one location to another and the writers could have thought of some fun things to do with their world tour. Instead, it takes place entirely in London and the boys are spies?!

It takes the boys in a very James Bond scenario and it does not work (at least, to me, it doesn't). I know the charm of the show is the silly and cartoony humor, but the silliness really did not work here and the comedy was very lame. The Bond parody villain was so eye-rolling. Only a couple of parts made me chuckle, but nothing that truly had me burst out laughing.

The story felt very rushed throughout (with even a lack of set-up, on top of it) and even though it is only 1 hour and 8 minutes long, I didn't feel it was paced very well. The boys also do covers of The Beatles songs throughout the film, but I didn't think the renditions of those songs were good, which is disappointing because I am a fan of The Beatles but I am also a fan of Big Time Rush' music. I only thought "We Can Work It Out" was a good rendition of a Beatles song (and a pretty fun scene, too), but that's it. There is no denying that the cast has fun and I appreciate them really trying, but the script and comedy was way too weak for me to get behind it.

Big Time Rush deserved a better movie than this! I couldn't believe how lame the final product turned out to be.
