“I’m not a boy… not yet a Freman…”
So visually impressive, and makes good on the world building established in Part One. On this rewatch I remained less invested in all the black and white sequences with copy-and-paste crowds (though Austin Butler is a striking presence) and there is a ceiling to how much this sort of complex sci-fi bobbins is ever going to be my kind of thing.
Despite that, it’s hard not to be swept up by the sheer cinematic spectacle of it all, in particular the worm-riding sequence (still the film’s highlight) and how great Timothée and Zendaya are at selling a close-up. The technical and craft aspects are top tier, the score slaps, and despite not offering the aural assault of my initial cinema screening, it holds up well to a home revisit.
