So you're telling me that Director Krennic is Rey's father?!

]]>In American Heist the characters (or the heist) being American has little to no significance in the story, and the heist is only in the last 20 or so minutes of the movie. But that isn't to say it's a bad film.
American Heist is more interesting when it focuses on the characters and their relationships, especially between brothers James (Hayden Christensen) and Frankie (Adrian Brody). There are some emotional moments where you really do feel for the characters and I think the movie may have been better had it been a character drama about James and Frankie attempting to reconcile after the events of the past. Alternatively, I also think the movie could have been better had it been longer, fleshing out their relationship better and then having a bigger and better heist for a climax.
From a filmmaking standpoint it's good enough, but it does have a slightly choppy look at times, although I think that's likely intentional. There's one scene which I quite liked, where James is shown getting drunk in his house, and that scene uses subjective cinematography quite effectively, and I wish we had a little more of that in the movie.
The best part of this movie to me was Hayden Christensen and Adrian Brody. Had it not been for the two of them, I wouldn't have enjoyed this as much as I did. Hayden Christensen is a great leading man, and it's such a shame that he hasn't gotten more mainstream roles. It's still not too late though.
All in all, American Heist, although misleadingly titled, is a fairly entertaining film that is worth watching for Christensen and Brody. It's not a movie that I would go around recommending (unless, like me, you're looking for more Hayden Christensen films) but it certainly isn't a movie I would recommend against, and is an entertaining enough watch if you're looking for something short.

Note: Entries 3 and 4 are at a tie, although I might enjoy 3 a little more. That may change over time though.
Movies that are relatively unheard of or underrated, but are actually pretty good. Not really ranked except for the first 3 being my favorites (they're also more famous than the others, but I've barely met anyone who knows them). It's a small list that will probably expand as I watch more movies.
