To Zack Snyder’s credit… I can’t exactly call this entirely his blunder since he left the production under tragic circumstances, and this is where taking the piss out of him has left the station. Instead, Joss Whedon gets to take the heat for this one for the tonal clashing attempts at lighthearted goofs he inserted into the film as he was brought on after Snyder’s exit. The themes are highly challenging but the ending is pretty uplifting; the idea that people can eventually recover from trauma given time. The stop motion is gorgeous and ties it together. Better check out that guinea pig car anime sometime to get the less confrontational side of this guy’s work.
