An American Werewolf in London

“I’m certain if there were a monster roaming around Northern England, we’d have seen it on the telly.”

This was one of the very first movies I saw on VHS. And I am deeply and eternally in love with it ever since. Watched it literally dozens of times.

With such an emotional attachment, it is difficult to identify why American Werewolf is one of my favorite films, if not THE one. And the best werewolf film ever. No discussion accepted…

”Fate who makes the sword, does the forging in advance.”

It’s missing the inspiring tone of Star Trek, that you even have in the weaker episodes across the various series. Even if this was not carrying the Star Trek label, it would be an only remotely entertaining film, with humor falling short most the time.

Defence of the Realm

1985

★★★½ Rewatched

”You would agree, would you not, that certain things bearing on the defence of the realm are best left unsaid?” – “If you mean covered up, no, I wouldn’t.”

A pretty basic journalist investigation thriller, but it is routinely and well made. Secrets upon secrets and red herrings. Solid cast. Enjoyable.

The main theme of Richard Harvey is a tune I love to listen to still today.

I saw the film once, likely in the 1980s, in German TV. The main theme I fortunately caught on a CD “Best of British Film Music”.

I know that from today's perspective, the hunting and capture of animals for zoos may look incorrect. Taken this aspect aside, this is one of my favorite films.

“I was there to push people beyond what is expected of them.”

Intense. A good, intense study of two men, well, what? Fighting? Struggling to become better? Developing? Hell, I do not envy the students. I am not ok with a teacher driving students like that with personal, emotional insult. Whatever the results. But on film, the dialogues, monologues and abuses are a hit.

A very good film, and that with me having no love and appreciation for jazz at all. Great shots.

And it is good to see Miles Teller in a decent role at least this one time.
