So much heart, so endearing. It’s refreshing to see the effects of homophobia without having to see its perpetrators on screen. No one’s sexuality needs to be in question here.

I think the biggest feat regarding this film is that 20 years ago, it would have been made with all white people and would have been a TLA Releasing film you’d have to special order. Stories about queer people of color are now feature films in theaters (and mine was packed on a Wednesday).

Coogler just doesn’t miss. This is no exception. Where is Wunmi’s Oscar?

As we learned in Scream 3, the third film in a franchise needs to establish some mythical lore about the killer in order further the franchise and while this films attempts this task to some degree, the story distracts from the reason we’re all there; we want to watch Art get up to some goofy, grotesque, gory guy-spilling.

Extra half-⭐️ for a fun appearance by MTV Movie Award Lifetime Achievement Winner, Clint Howard.

In the modern age, this still holds up as the source of the original terror thesis: it's not the dead you have to worry about. Many of the horror movie tropes we groan about today are based off the key plots points in this movie. I can't help but wonder what seeing this in the 60s would have been like.
