Dear Lord, this was terrifying to watch and sadly still applicable 75 years later, even though Warner Bros. refused to go all the way in portraying how truly reprehensible the Klan was and eternally is, especially regarding its racism and bigotry. That sexual assault scene alone deeply horrified me, a seasoned horror veteran, because it screams reality in a way absent from most films being made during this time period. How are we still using blatant transphobic tropes as plot twists as recently as 2023?!?!

Obviously this was such a terrible portrayal of DID and there were moments of interesting film but they really kept doubling down on it being about DID with the message of “they’re capable of more than normal humans”???
like quite literally going out of their way to fear monger about a disorder caused from extreme childhood trauma… talk about punching down…

Also the kidnapping storyline was a bit interesting so they could’ve just made it about a demon possession instead of bringing up DID at all.

Let’s get the good stuff out of the way first: this film is well acted, the soundtrack is actually solid, and the setting looks gorgeous on screen. Visually, it’s got charm. The chemistry between the leads is fine. The pacing is not bad either.

But here’s the massive, uncomfortable elephant in the room…
This movie doesn’t just flirt with stalking, it celebrates it.

The main character’s behaviour... If this were real life, someone would be…
