A mostly competent (there’s a super egregious continuity error in the first action scene where the rain suddenly stops for 5 seconds) blend of neo-noir with “24” that would likely bore to tears if not for Aaron Eckhart’s supreme commitment to a super generic role that Gerard Butler was too busy to take.

Why the cuss didn’t Eckhart get a bigger career?

This was fun. Perhaps all horror movies should now be comedies because most are so bad that the only way to make them half decent is not to take themselves too seriously.

The Out-Laws

2023

I don’t think I’ve ever given a movie one heart before, but I guess there’s a first time for everything.

The Outlaws, Netflix’s newest comedy/thriller offering, follows Owen Browning (Adam Devine), a straight-laced banker who is getting ready to marry the love of his life Piper (Nina Dobrev). It’s all going according to plan when his bank is held up by the infamous Ghost Bandits. Putting two and two together, Owen starts to believe it may be his future in laws (Pierce Brosnan and Ellen Barkin) who just so happened to arrive in town for the wedding.

Renny Harlin is very hit and miss and this is most definitely a miss.

Far too much of Vin Diesel shamelessly stroking his own ego for me to really get into it, but the rest of “The Return of Xander Cage” is knowingly and gleefully stupid enough that it can be a fun ‘beer and pizza with bros’ vibe if you can get past the fact that even performers as talented as Donnie Yen get shafted in the editing of the action sequences so he doesn’t appear superior to Diesel (or more accurately, Diesel’s stunt double) in any way.
