Marching Powder

Honestly I do appreciate what this film is attempting to do but it doesn't do enough and when it does touch in something interesting ( toxic masculinity, firms, peer pressure, hooliganism etc) it doesn't commit to it enough? I also found myself interested so much more in the female leads story and I do believe that was the intention, but it just makes the ending so much more of a let down

Edit: based on reviews I think my experience…

Captain America: Brave New World

Nothing Brave or New about it I’m afraid. Silly of me to assume Marvel would ever have the bollocks to actually do something Brave or New.

Huge win for the 6 fans of Eternals, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and The Incredible Hulk though. They must be ecstatic right now

I liked the joke about Harrison’s lack of tache. I liked the bit where Captain America briefly surfed a missile. I liked that the whole thing at least had the dream of being about human conflict and not just blah blah blah the world is going to end because of this angry blue alien fella

Heart Eyes

As a improv comedian I think Josh Ruben is obviously gifted if overreliant on repetitive shtick. As a film director I think one of those things is true.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy

Life's a Bridge and then your husband dies. Or whatever they say.

Bridget Jones' Diary is a formative film for me, and one I've been watching since I was definitely too young to be watching it (thanks mom!). Two shaky-to-downright-bad sequels haven't ever dimmed my love for this ridiculous character and her silly little love triangles, and that's what makes Mad About the Boy so bittersweet - not just that it ends the series for good, but that it wraps…

I was actually quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie. Perhaps there were too many shots of Pamela Anderson meandering in a Vegas parking lot, but I suppose when your teleological horizon of significance is forcefully adjusted for you, wouldn’t you too be looking for ways of moving forward as well? I found all of the performances here to be moving and I’m now sold on Anderson as a “dramatic actress”

I was entertained, but it was so very bad.

And why was the voice of Hasan not the face of Hasan??

Grew up with SNL so this was a god send. Pretty cool BTS. If you work in a job that includes creativity and arranging people - this film will give you anxiety and heart palpitations. It’s also funny:

I would rather butt fuck cancer than make these changes.

Hey, Jim! I heard about Big Bird. So sorry. Auto-erotic asphyxiation, who knew?

What is a golden shower?

Hard Truths

2024

Some great performances here but nothing substantial to make you care.

Mother does have a point though about every thing in life:

What’s a baby got pockets for? A knife?
What’s a dog got a coat for? It’s got fur!

This is definitely a “humanist” film - not sure how else to describe it.
