This guy... he's a fucking lunatic. Honestly, I did lower my expectations going into this because I'd seen some slightly worrying reviews about the first act being abit of a slog. I'm glad to report for me personally it wasn't a slog, I liked the numerous call backs to the previous instalments, heck - we even get a 0.001 second clip of "Sean Ambrose" which is something us MI:2 defenders have been waiting to see for years... only joking. I've always really enjoyed this movie, I'd actually go as far to say it's one of my favourites from both Spielberg & Cruise. Ive been aware of this film for the last couple of months, ever since the epic marketing kicked in with them vague teasers came out and pre-this insane hype the film has been getting. I love dark moody police procedurals alot like "True Detective", "Seven", "Silence of the Lambs" etc... so when this was getting compared with them my excitement levels went through the roof. 36 years on.. and it's still a god damn staple of cinema. A film that ages like the finest of wines. You can watch this as a 10yr old and get something out of it(just stick the tv cut on), aswell as watching it as an adult and noticing all the satirical elements to it. Weather your talking about one of the greatest villains of all time in "Clarence Boddicker", or the amazing score by Basil Poledouris, the movie has it all.. and then some.
