Encapsulating the essence of film noir for me. Thrown into a world that you didn't choose, yet you have to obey its arbitrary laws. It's a world operating on the social stratosphere. A world of wanting to connect with the other, but having difficulties doing so because it all is built on a game that you think sucks. On top of it all the game is rigged. But here you are, stuck in that reality for a good portion of your day, every day again. Try once more; forever. Until forever runs out of sand.

I've never seen editing like it, I found it riveting and was amazed that the film could keep up that peculiar, almost consistent rhythm without it ever becoming tiresome or losing its appeal, nor did it get in the way of the film's contemplative mood, describing it with a word like "inserts" I think is completely missing the point.
