(6.4/10) Mission Groundhogs Day, AKA Source Code has a nice start and the setup is good. It has decent writing but nothing that hits me hard in the pyschy. It's a solid sci-fi plot and has some emotional elements to it but overall this movie doesn't move me in any direction.
Jake Gyllenhaal always performs at a high level in his roles that's never in question. He takes the lead role and takes control of the movie. His character demanded range in acting skills and my boy Gyllenhaal executed. Jeffrey Wright played a good semi diabolic inventor guy trying to have success with his invention. Something about his character bugs me but I think that's a result of a good performance. The two ladies were solid as well but don't have much depth. The acting is a high mark.
The opening score and the aerial view of downtown Chicago was good introduction but I don't think it holds the level of cinematography throughout. The ending is somewhat predictable but a feel good one. This is a decent movies but not one I that I love but can't say I dislike it either. It has some ok twists but the repetive setting isn't too exciting. One reason I love Jake Gyllenhaal though is his movies always have twists and turns in the plot and the ending will have you thinking. This isn't one that blows me away but it fits that. 🚄
