This was a tough time of them figuring out the tone and direction of the franchise, but those issues aside I am still completely enchanted by Woo’s sweeping heroics and seductive visuals to the point that I teared up watching the beach fight because man his language of action is just so beautiful. I have a blast watching this and actually find the narrative quirks very easy to ignore! Just look at his hair!

Still think this sucks, not because it’s super fucked up or whatever but because it’s half a real movie and half self consciously dumb as shit in a way that renders the whole thing inert. Justin Long is still America’s princess though and I am glad James Laxton & Michael Parks went as hard as they did

We can observe a lot about fascism here and its seductive embrace but perhaps more important is that movies might be better when Tilda Swinton is playing all the lead male roles as well

Best viewed as a borderline autobiographical way for Oz Perkins to process the absurd tragedies that have populated his life, and through that lens it’s fun to sort through the mirrored characters as representations of how we can choose to reckon with death (shove it down, blame yourself, fester and try to control it, etc). Can’t decide if the humor is annoying and juvenile (that’s some King too) or charming in the “if i don’t laugh I’ll cry”, comically morbid…

Whose breath will I listen for so that I may sleep? Whose hand will I hold so that I may walk?
There are secrets in every corner of this village, pain locked in boxes under the stairs, an oppressive fear of touching and losing again. The color red is avoided and buried until it is on your hands and pouring out of the wound in your chest.

What good can come from my saying that I sometimes cannot think clearly…

I am nice.

The violence of coming of age and existing on the fringes of society, quietly could be one of Luca’s best. There’s so much you can read into this, maybe too much, but what prevails the most is the all consuming, infinite pact of love and unconditional acceptance that Lee and Maren have for each other. I cried everyone cried. Maybe love will set you free.

Very happy to report this still rips and is honestly one of my favorite remakes in recent memory, blending genre thrills and modern tech anxieties to put you in the headspace of being terrorized and isolated by an ab was a pretty genius turn. Whannell establishes the stakes & makes you tense from the very first moments, and Elisabeth Moss is like oscar worthy here. Makes it all the more befuddling that Wolf Man is the way it is.

It wants to… turn me into something else. That's not too terrible is it? Most people would give anything to be turned into something else.

Out on digital today! Saw this again a bit ago, it was one of my favorite videos to do this year. To say it’s one of the best of 2024 feels too small. Mikey Madison Oscar now!!!

I am awestruck by how much my opinion on this changed after seeing it a second time but hey sometimes that’s the way it crumbles, movie-wise

Oh nooo i watched the movie too many times and can’t perceive its flaws anymore

Talked about this on YouTube, for all its melodrama and elements stitched together I can’t help but love this endlessly rewatchable epic about a guy just trying to get home. Lucilla you are stronger than the marines
