There are changes from the Animated Film that I don’t necessarily dislike but was something I wouldn’t have signed off on. Like Guntu just not existing at all or Jumba and Pleakly just being “cloned humans” the majority of the time. Like I need Pleakly the Alien in his bob and sundress please and thank you! 

But besides that, all the same good story beats, CGI is very impressive and still brings that heartfelt joy of the original.

Sometimes you just have the inkling to watch a Coming of age Coming out movie that’s gonna do the same tropes as other films but this one’s ending kinda felt incomplete

This one was a solid 3 1/2 for me until the very last scene. I hated it so much. It was absolutely awful. 

Also, why does the CGI look basically the same as “The Final Destination” which came out 16 years ago!! So disappointing!!

Tony Todd’s scene has absolutely amazing and such a way to close out his fantastic career.

This is was just kinda boring at parts, like there’s constantly something happening but it just kept repeating the same tense moment over and over while nothing new happened keeping me invested.

I have so much respect for horror movies that jump scare me out of genuine fear vs just blaring audio into my ears and this movie got me GOOD. I jumped out of my seat practically. This was everything I needed from “Unfriended” and it’s genuinely impressive how they made this happen during peak 2020 pandemic.

I am so conflicted on this…

Rachel Zegler is the absolute stand out here. Her voice is so magical and her acting is just as stunning. She really takes this character from 1937 and really makes it her own. I also loved that she didn’t fall in love with a prince. She fell for a bandit who fought for everything she believed in. It was cute. 

Gal Gadot on the other hand….yikes. I’m gonna try very hard to keep internet biases out of this but they aren’t really wrong. No emotion. No drive. Not Evil enough for someone named EVIL Queen. Even the song they gave her is great and I would love to hear it again with a different voice. Her performance is really the main thing that holds this movie back from getting a bigger rating than 3 stars.

Why did Eddie trying to eat the gummy bears out of that compartment remind me of a goldfish trying to eat it’s fish flakes?

When I saw OPUS, I was worried going in because it has been getting very mixed reviews. But after seeing it I would say it is good but it's very much a starter psychological horror movie for someone getting into the genre. Think like Midsommar mixed with The Menu and then drop the crazy scale down about 3 notches. It's has all the good rewarding moments for people who are actively paying attention but like I said it feels like a movie you'd put on for someone who may not have seen psychological cult themed horror movies before and they put it on to test and see if they'd like it. But overall I enjoyed most of it!

Mickey 17 is the first movie to release in 2025 that actually made me excited for releases. This movie is so much fun and the actors are putting they’re all into every single role and it really shows. Robert Pattinson, of course is the stand out playing Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 the way he’s able to play the same character with two different personalities is absolutely astounding. I really hope that this movie isn’t forgotten by the time the 2026 Oscars rolls around Mark Ruffalo also plays a tyrannical dictator with slightly orange skin and fluffy hair (wink wink) and he does an absolutely great job of being the most despicable piece of garbage possible. Toni Colette also does a stand out role here and there’s a moment at the very end of the film that reminds me why she is one of my favorite actresses even though I really only seen her in hereditary and this. I think the world building and side characters make this movie 10 times fun as well. it’s a really fun experience and a great mix of comedy and sci-fi.

I was nervous at first because 20+ years of parody movies and memes almost ruined this for me but I was honestly so amazed by this film. 

I gasped out loud twice in a matter of 10 minutes…

Where has Uma Thurman been hiding all my life?

It was ok, my expectations were low low low so maybe that had something to do with me thinking it wasn’t terrible. You could 100% tell that they spent most of their SFX money on Red hulk cause everything else looks visually bad. Just another filler movie in the MCU

My genuine thoughts is this movie doesn’t really know what it wants to be. It’s too funny and out there to be strictly horror but also too gory and creepy to be strictly a comedy. I know horror comedies exist however a balance is needed and there is no balance here. It tries to be scary and then immediately becomes goofy. It’s kinda confusing at times to the viewer.

Theo James even I feel does a basic performance…and he’s playing two characters. It’s just not really there. A lead needs to be convincing and I just didn’t get it from him. Love him and maybe the problem is with the writing and he was just doing what he was given.

The kills started out great but the last couple of kills in the film are almost parody level humorous. 

And the marketing promotion from NEON is still wrong for me. This is the third time I feel NEON has marketed a movie as something it’s not.

A true staple from my childhood, this is my favorite out of the 8 Harry Potter films and when I saw it was having a 20th anniversary screening, I just had to go to see my favorite on the big screen for the first time. 

It is also my favorite score out of the 8 films.

I had such high hopes for this movie and it just absolutely destroyed every expectation I had for it. This movie was not good. This felt like a part two of something. we are literally thrown in the middle of a story like we are expected to know these characters and know what's going on when really we don't know. This is the first installment ever with these characters and it makes us as an audience feel stupid because it sets us up as if we're supposed to know these characters. They give us very little backstory in regards to the characters so for the first 45 minutes, you are lost.

When it comes to the action sequences in this movie, they are almost parody level bad. Physics just don't exist in this movie. People can get flicked in the nose and fly across the room in this universe this takes place. I also feel like the way it was shot just made it look silly. It was very laughable.

The character dynamics were all over the place. I thought the love story between Ariana Debose and Ke Huy Quan's character was just very weird and out of place. I wasn't rooting for either one of them because again it plays the audience as if we know and love these characters already and doesn't really give us any development to grow with and love these characters before the action starts. I don't know, this movie was just bad and it really sucks to say because Ke Huy Quan is such a talented actor. It makes me sad to see his talent wasted in something like this.

The film critic in me thinks this movie is not great. The dialogue is a little weird and some of the character decisions are kind of stupid, but the Valentine’s Day hater in me absolutely loved this.

1987’s Hellraiser from Clive Barker is a movie I have heard about for many years being a horror fan, but I have never had the pleasure of viewing it until today. This film hit a lot of marks that I want in an 80s horror movie. The practical effects while in 2025 may look a little silly are perfect for the time of release. They do so much with just a $1 million budget. I think the characters are very well acted. I think the Cenobites look great. I can’t believe I haven’t seen this movie before. 

One of the big things that I like about this movie is I feel everything has a reason behind it. One example is most of the time you see the character, Julia, there is a blur filter on the lens to make everything look more seductive, and dreamy. Julia spends a lot of the  runtime daydreaming about what her and Frank could potentially have been or will be and I think these blurs within the cinematography really give that dream like effect that match the character so perfectly 

I cannot praise this film enough for the practical effects that it used on such a low budget. The progression of Frank’s resurrection, how more and more muscle and tissue and nerves are added to the special effects on this actor is just something I have never seen done before. I think the chain wrapping around and pulling on Frank’s face at the very end was great looking. This just really itched the part of my brain that loves 80s horror practical effects.

Companion is a 2025 horror movie that deals with a couple who arrives at a lake house and things get crazy. 

In of theme, I think the film really does a good job and showing how misogynistic and self-centered men can be in the world. I do not think all men are like that and they do show that in of other characters however, the male of the main couple is such a horrible boyfriend to his companion. It is a world of manipulation and gaslighting, and to make it even worse, she’s not even a human. She’s a robot so just to ponder on if he can treat a robot like that, he would definitely treat a human like that. 

I think the cinematography in the movie is very pretty. It’s very bright colors and clean. It really shows that even when things seem bright, darkness and evil can still be present whether it be in human form or a supernatural form and in this case it is human form coming from the boyfriend. 

In of acting, I think this movie is very well acted. Sophie Thatcher as Iris is the stand out here. She really knows how to portray this robot character very well in of acting stiff or having a very clear sounding vocals with others that seems kind of robotic, but also may be a little bit sounding like a human who may have an awkward personality or anxiety. As much as I hate Jack Quaid‘s character I think he did a really good job because you’re supposed to hate him. This is not the first time I’ve seen him in a role where he plays a really bad boyfriend so I think he plays it pretty well. Ahem, Scream (2022) looking at you! 

I honestly think one of the main reasons I like this movie so much is because I relate to Iris and how Jack Quaid’s character treats her. He definitely reminded me of some love interests I’ve had in the past and that could potentially skew my opinion in liking it for the elements shown in the movie or if it’s because I can relate to it on a personal level. However, I think most people enjoy movies because they can relate to the scenarios and characters involved in them. And that’s why everybody’s opinions on movies are different.

This was one of my most anticipated movies coming out early 2025 and it did not disappoint. Sophie Thatcher is a badass legend

I think "Presence" is a perfect example of movie marketing gone wrong. NEON known for such hits like longlegs and cuckoo, releases another movie that is "the scariest movie of all time'" however upon viewing, I wouldn't even call this a horror movie.

Do not get me wrong, I really enjoyed this movie. I thought the idea of being the presence throughout the movie was such an interesting way to shoot the film. The entirety of the film is shot in a first person point of view making audience feel as if they are this "presence "lurking around the house and witnessing things going on with this family. The sound design was also impressive and being able to capture depth within its audio. If a character was close to the presence, their breathing became more noticeable whereas if somebody were across the room from the presence, you would not be able to hear them breathe and the volume while they were speaking would decrease. Angles are also another part of this movie that I enjoy because it gives us a new look on how things are played out throughout the film. A lot of dead on or upward angles.

I thought the acting was pretty good even with the runtime being extremely short. there are many cuts to black throughout the film to indicate time ing and with the runtime being only an hour and 29 minutes, there's only so much we can learn about these characters however I believe that the actors had their own motivations and thoughts behind these characters and you could really see that shine through. Especially with the Dad, there was so many layers to his character whether he was stressed about work, stressed about his wife's negligence for their daughter or concerned for his daughter who had recently lost her best friend. You could really tell he was trying to keep and making things positive for his family when he was the one that was probably suffering the most.

I went into this movie, thinking it was going to be scary because of the movie's marketing. This movie is not scary. There is nothing about this movie that will make you jump or scream or even leave you feeling tense. In my opinion, the marketing makes it seem like this presence is the antagonist of the movie, but I do not see it that way. There is a clear antagonist within the film, and the presence is the one that saves the protagonist in the end. This film gives more of a thriller/drama tone. I would even argue it's not even suspenseful. However, I do not think this is the movies fault the problem lies within the marketing.

Here lately, the going trend of horror movies with a January release date meant it most likely wasn’t going to be a success. Movies like “Night Swim” and “Imaginary” come to mind for 2024. However, this film outperformed my expectations. 

The cinematography and Sound Design was the most impressive I took away from this feature. The ability to change perspectives from a man who was gaining wolf like sensibilities and sensitivities to a regular human was done very well. Sounds we as humans most likely don’t hear are heightened to boom throughout your speakers as the main character begins his transformation as well as the ability to see clearly in a dark room. I think it was impressive that the director made these choices to not only show the fear that humans would feel seeing a werewolf in front of them, but also how an animal like being may also be fearful as their senses heighten and the people they know and love the most are now unrecognizable and sound incoherent. 

I’ve never seen the original Wolfman movie but I thought the acting between the three family stood out really well. We only know these characters for the hour and 43 minute run time and I left the theater with my heart hurting because the family has been torn apart. I think one of the best lines in this movie is “sometimes dad’s create scars by trying to shield our children from getting scarred” and I think that right there sums up the end of the film. While it wasn’t necessarily the father’s fault what was happening to him, he did what he could before he lost all humanity to protect his family from the original Wolfman but in the process of protecting, he became the villain. 

And of course you can’t have a Leigh Whannell film without a good Saw (2004) reference…
