LONG LIVE THE FIGHTERS!

A sequel where the view is so drawn out, it elevates the story to another level, showing the journey’s of each character, and the impact of their lives on the planet of Arrakis. Dune part one paved the way for this film, introducing the story, and giving a whole lot of exposition. Even though it was still good, the story wasn’t as foreseen as its successor.

Dune: Part Two is a film about civilization, growth, prophecy, organized government, tragedy, faith, and religion. Sticking to who your are as a person, your heritage and descent, your destiny and faith. Paul Atreides, in the first film, is seen as a kid with two powerful planets, one of the most renowned Bene Gesserit’s in the universe as his mother, and the leader of house of Atreides, Leto. With exposition in the first film, it sets up the story for what the second is going to be like. With ending the first movie with Lady Jessica and Paul teaming up with the freman, planning on taking a journey with them, showing the growth of each individual character, especially Paul. In this film, it’s first half starts off with Paul’s journey with the freman, being called the Lisan-Al-Gaib, which is the freman’s term for the chosen one, or to be more specific, the messiah of their people. We get more and more of Paul’s overall development as a character, experiencing new heights in the desert, and finding his true self with the freman people. During all of this, Chani get’s fully introduced into the story, the audience finding out Paul and Chani are the true lovers. The cinematography, especially during this first half, is astonishing, delivering shots filled with this atmosphere, yet brining this essence of love between Paul and Chani, bringing more of a compelling part to the story as a whole. The characters are written in a way that makes them so developed, each progressing the story from within.

The second half of this movie, the exposition of Feyd-Rautha, and how he came to power to the Harkonnen house, also elevates this film, showing how villainous and dangerous he truly is as a character. As the story then progresses, after his introduction as a character, and into the war between the freman and the harkonnens/emperor, the fight scene between Feyd-Rautha and Paul is so fucking beautiful, the colors, the lightning, the framing, the sound design, the editing. This film’s layout and design was formed with such precision, each detail adding so much depth to the story as a whole. And on top of all of this, we get another masterclass from Hanz Zimmer. I can keep going on and on about this movie, how it is already a top 30 of all time, and easily one of the best movie-going experiences I have ever had in my whole life. I knew the hype coming into this, thinking to myself, is this really a 4.6/5? I am sitting here still speechless after watching it, being mesmerized and completely changed intellectually. I loved it.
