Me: If you know you know… 👀
]]>I really appreciate Kevin Costiner being ambitious and bold with trying to make something original and epic. The scenery, production and cinematography is fantastic. However the film is bloated and very flat in it’s execution, presentation, characters, themes and plot.
Like a lot of the characters goals and motivations are barely touched, if they are it’s very surface level. None of the characters I cared for, at times this feels like episodes in a ok television series , this is mainly down to the way it is filmed and edited. We barely know any of the characters as they aren’t developed that well or is just there to move the plot forward.
The pacing is awful and jarring in that a lot of this film I find so boring and lackluster. The script is bloated and a mess. The plot doesn’t go that much anywhere really. This just feels like a set up for future films. I’m curious to see what plans Costner has with the sequels, but as a first film in a 4 part film series it’s very underwhelming.
]]>Should’ve casted Christian Bale instead of Woody Harrleson. Would’ve made the movie more memeble.
]]>Like The Matrix and Fight Club which released a year later than this, this film was way ahead of its time. Andrew Niccol manages to create an interesting, philosophical and mesmerizing script that blends so many different genres together such as Physiological Drama, Rom Com, satire and social science fiction.
I really appreciate the films ideas and messages in that it explores freedom, imprisonment, consumerism, celebrity endorsement, surveillance, live tv. It also raises the question on whether it’s ethical for media and organisations to document a persons everyday life, it also explores and criticises the concept of choice and how society is influenced heavily by media and organisations on how to live their life.
This film is a masterclass in screenplay, editing, cinematography and production. It really is.
This film was made so that the Matrix and Fight Club could be walk.
Truman was the mind bending film before the mind bending film…👀
]]>We used to get Rom com mid budget films like this, Friends with Benefits, Get Him Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall in late 2000s/early 2010s.
What’s happened to mid budget films? We need to get back to making films like this.
]]>First off we are not back. It feels like we are heading in the right direction but not back. We are back if the next 4 projects are 7s or 8/10.
Honestly one of the best MCU films post endgame. Not top tier for me overall but still good. This definitely feels a lot more tighter than previous MCU films in relations to characters and writing. I love the void is a metaphor for the characters dark past and loneliness . The 3rd act is honestly one of the best 3rd acts in the MCU as it’s not really about fighting it’s about the characters mindset and them breaking out of their shell and coming together. It feels like we are building something now, it reminds me of the MCU of old.
Lastly that post credit…. Goosebumps man. All I can say is bring on Fantastic Four.
]]>Reminds me of why I love going to the movies. Coogler blends so many genres together seamlessly, creating a unique original film that tells the story of how music can bring community together, while critiquing how colonialism is still an ongoing issue in society. It also highlights how black communities can find fellowship and happiness in times of repression.
I’m sure there’s more to unpack on a second viewing.
I really hope this won’t be spawned into a franchise as right now we need more unique and original standalone big budget movies with interesting voices behind them. Love franchise movies but we need a blend of both franchise and standalone big budget movies.
]]>“50,000 people used to live in this town, now it’s a war zone.”
Modern Warfare 4 in reality.
This honestly has some of the best sound designs I’ve ever seen in a film, the way they synch the different sounds that pull audiences into what the soldiers were hearing. Every gun shot, scream and explosion feels intentional like you’re in the zone with the soldiers hearing what they can hear. It’s a masterclass in sound editing and design.
Not top tier from Alex Garland but a good film and one of the best of the year.
]]>Haven’t watched this in over 10 years and still holds up well… 26 years later. This film does a good job at showcasing what it was like being of colour back in the 70s in Manchester. While it showcases the reality of being British Asian in a funny light hearted way it also showcases the toxicity of it and how strict families can be on their kids with religion. Also so many funny lines to pick from this film.

]]>Quite disappointing from Arnold. She’s one of my favourite filmmakers and was really looking forward to watching this. This ain’t a bad film but certainly not a good one either it’s mediocre in my eyes. The best part of this film is the performances for me as everyone played roles well enough. I like some of baileys arc in that she starts to grow as a person when she meets Bird but tbh I don’t feel she grows that much as she’s mostly the same character throughout the film in my opinion, she just finds a little purpose through finding Bird.
The screenplay and story I find very shallow and a bit boring in places. Arnold doesn’t really go for it in my opinion. Like we don’t really understand why Bailey is the way she is and why she has a hard relationship with both her parents and brothers. They didn’t really explore those relationships in a way that was compelling.
The character of Bird and his arc I didn’t really care for if I’m honest. The surrealism involving his character I get what Arnold is trying to do but tbh it doesn’t really work for me. 99.9% of this film is grounded, and to incorporate an element like that in the film just takes me out of it.
The first act is rather boring the film doesn’t start to get interesting until an hour in.

]]>Mark Walbergs and Matt Damon’s best performances I’ve seen despite it being the same role and voice they play, even now 😂 Marty managed to get a tune out of both of them. Leo is fantastic same with Jack Nicholson. The last 20 mins of the film is absolutely crazy man, that ending and symbolism is just perfect and poetic. Marty truly is a cinematic legend. Also big up the film for mentioning Gloucester and Worcester.
If you know you know…👀

]]>Fun Sci flick from bong joon ho, really wacky and very bold. Pattinson should honestly get nominated for best actor at next years awards season because he’s incredible in this. If Emma Stone performance in Poor Things can get her nominated for the big awards then Pattinson should as well.
The guys a 🐐. Performances from other actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun and Toni Collete are all solid. Well made film by Bong, however I find the script and storyline shallow and very surface level. I wish its themes and messages were honestly much more explored as the ideas were there but I feel there wasn’t enough material to be explored.

]]>I honestly can’t believe it’ll be almost 10 years since this came out. Still holds up very well. Team Cap still and he was ultimately right.
I think the captian America trilogy and the guardians movies are the MCU’s best trilogy’s and films, they are the most consistent and explore their characters beautifully. I love how the film questions despite the avengers efforts being respected is it right for them to be a private organisation and not owned by the government.
Steve obviously doesn’t think government should dictate and control the avengers as he believes the safest hands our their own despite not saving everyone, in contrast to Tony who feels guilty after being told about how they killed a persons son while in Sokovia during Age of Ultron. The tension and debate is so well done.
Zemo is one of the best villains still in the MCU as he basically tore the avengers without throwing a single punch and you can understand why he hates the avengers so much. Hope Zemo is around for future projects as he’s such a good villian.
Shoutout to Feige for introducing my boy Spiderman and Black Panther in this film and the MCU. He handed both characters in this perfectly. I always thought Spiderman would be on caps side due to the nature of the accords and how Spiderman is his own and is no loyal to no government but it’s only because he idols stark and probably just wants to come for the ride. lol.
This film does a great job at setting up the avengers for Infinity war as by that film they are separated.
While this film is still great there are few things I don’t think have aged well such as the accords is a good plot point but it’s only used to have them fight in the airport and not really used post this film. More people should’ve died in this film, like come on rodey should’ve died and maybe a big main character don’t know who though.
The cinematography is a bit bland in some places and sometimes the jokes aren’t needed. I wish the MCU can get back to making top tier projects such as this, The Winter Soldier, Spiderman Homecoming, Infinity War and Guardians Of The Galaxy but time will tell with the next few projects.
It’s a shame we never got to see Spiderman and Cap interact again after this as they are my favourite marvel characters and just think they’d get on well. But that’s the same with Steve and Tony never meeting the Fantastic 4, The X Men and Wolverine in the MCU.
]]>We are sooooo back! The MCU is back baby. Just kidding.
What a load of rubbish this film is man. Sam had no arc. Basically falcon and the winter soldier but far worse. The villian was shit and the pacing is all over the place. I don’t understand why they decided to bring back hulk villains for a captain America film. Doesn’t work. The villian is just Zemo but no where near compelling and interesting. They try to copy the tone and narrative of the Winter Soldier but fail spectacularly at it. Harrison Ford just gives another Harrison Ford performance. The action and editing is so jarring. This film basically just sets up thunderbolts. Teases the future with antium…. Cough…. Wolverine. And teases Doomsday.
What was the point of this film?
Like can someone tell me.

]]>Had 72 hours to process this and it’s safe to say it’s one of the best films of 2024. The acting, the cinematography, the script and the editing is top notch. This is definitely one of the best stories about the dark side of the American dream. I love how it shows just how much trauma, pain and suffering Brody’s character went through into achieving what he set out to do. Brody should win best picture same with Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce as they gave great performances as well.
What they achieved with such a small budget is incredible. This film is a fusion of Paul Thomas Anderson, Martin Scorsese and prime Francis Ford Coopla.
The runtime was no issue for me however I can understand why some people think it didn’t need that runtime. The ending was definitely Interesting as I didn’t agree with the idea of it’s about the destination not the journey as ultimately both are just as important as the destination wouldn’t be worth the enjoyment without the experiences and lessons people gone through in their journey to get to the destination.
Very impressive film.
Adrien Brody truly is one of the best actors man, we need him in more stuff. Same with Guy Pearce, talented actor that deserves to be in more stuff as well.

]]>Hey Mufasa?
Yes Taka?
I never thought when watching the OG animated Lion King movie that we need to see a backstory of Mufasa with Scar, Sarabi and Rafiki in it.
While this film is a slight step up from the abomination that was the 2019 remake by the hack favreau it falls quite flat still. Some moments aren’t earned such as Scars turn to evil and sneaky, the villian was shit despite being played decently by the legendary Mads Milkenson. Too many storylines in the film and being undercooked and rushed such as Rafiki arc in finding a brother in Milele. Sarabi didnt have much of an arc either in the film. I’d say Mufasa writing is easily the best part of the film because it felt earned and seeds were planted throughout the film of his leadership skills and courage.

]]>11 years later…. It’s in my opinion still the best MCU film and the best Captain America movie. The storyline is arguably one of the MCU best in how progressives and challenges the character of Steve by placing him in a modern world where the worlds changed since he was in the ice and how the world isn’t black and white and explores how he reacts to that. While the film doesn’t do anything groundbreaking with its themes and messages I just love how it explores social issues such as realism vs idealism and questions whether it’s morally ethical to be surveying and controlling society. This film has some of the best action sequences in the MCU and some of the best soundtrack music. I really wish the MCU would make more movies like this. I just love the espionage spy political thriller aspect of this move, that’s what I want from a Captain America film.
I also appreciate how the events of this film is the reason why in Civil War he is against g the accords and is against the Avengers being controlled by Government. While many people may prefer Iron Man to cap there’s no denying Cap is a great character despite being a goody too shoes.
]]>Decent film however some of its messages and themes I feel could’ve been more explored such as show more of Romy and her husband’s relationship and why she’s not fully happy with her husband’s relationship. I also found the plot a bit confusing to follow at times. some of character motivation a little confusing and not properly explored. Also the consequences for both are fine as they both carry on as if nothing happened and the ending was a bit shit if I’m honest. Very good concept but poor execution.

]]>Highly recommend this classic. Really wish we got some detective films that are similar to this in period and setting.
]]>Robert Eggers has done it again. I prefer the lighthouse a bit more but this is definitely my fav Eggers film after it. This film is and will go down as one of the best horror movies ever made. This is definitely Eggers best film from a technical standpoint. So many memorable shots and scenes. I really think Robert Eggers did a fantastic job with intertwining the films ideas and messages idea and present in such a great way in that death is inevitable, explores people’s wants and needs and how it comes at a cost. Explores love and fidielty in both a toxic and tragic manner. The performances are fantastic but the stand outs are Bill Skarsgard, Willem Dafoe and Lilly Rose Depp. This film should get some Oscar nominations as it really is one of the best to come out of 2024 but highly doubt it. This film should be studied from a filmmaking and production standpoint as it really is something that is remarkable. What stops it being higher is the pacing does feel a bit off in some places and the films feels longer than it’s actual runtime.
Robert Eggers truly is one of the best directors working today we are so lucky and long may he continue to make films like this so exciting to see what he does next.

]]>How this film hasn’t got any Oscar buzz and likely to not get much nominations either is a joke. This film is easily top 3 of the year. If it was my choice would get nominated for every category.
]]>17 years later I still love this movie. Yeah it’s flawed, certain story directions I would not have done but I think it works for the most part. Toby Maguire Spider-Man and his films were a big part of my childhood & will always have a special place in my heart.
I honestly think this film is so over hated and so underrated. Does a lot of good character work, and challenges Peter.
The CGI in some places are very noticeable but doesn’t take me out of the movie.
I think Dunst version of MJ is over hated as well, like yeah she’s flawed & certain parts of her character i would done differently but her flaws are what makes her relatable I guess, and love her and Peter’s relationship & how their relationship grows over the trilogy. My issue with her is they made her a damsel in distress like surely after the first movie they should’ve developed her character more where in dangerous situations she could stand on her own two feet without Peter always rescuing her.
Hot Take: Peter & MJ as a couple is honestly far better & have much more care than the MCU Peter & MJ so far.

This and The Dark Knight are without doubt the greatest superhero films EVER… 🎉
This is a great example of how you can craft and tell compelling stories with relatable characters in the genre…👍
The Batman, GOTG 3 & Spider Verse give me hope the genre can get back to telling more quality stories in the comic book movie genre… 😌
Give more superhero movies like Spider-Man 2, TDK, The Batman Winter Soldier and less sloppy products or just rely cameos as it’s main USP like Deadpool & Wolverine, Thor 4, Dr Strange 2 or Captain Marvel…👀
]]>Jack Black, Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet with cameos of John Krasinski, Kathryn Hahn, Edward Burns and Dustin Hoffman…. yeah this is my Christmas Endgame.
]]>Norman Osborn - “ Work was murder.” is an understatement of a line.
]]>I’ve never been a fan of this film. However gave it a watch after not watching it in years and it’s not as bad as people make it out to be. It’s mediocre at best with some ok parts to it. I really liked how Ang Lee tried to do something interesting with the hulk and banner by exploring the ideas of trauma and relationships between father and son. I wish he explored those ideas more deeper as it’s quite shallow. The performances in my opinion are the best parts with Bana, and Connolly giving solid performances and having a decent chemistry. And small pieces of the editing and experimentation with the comic book frames are pretty cool.
My main issues with the film is the writing for the most part is shallow. The third act isn’t that well structured. The villian motivations are not well explored. Some of the editing is quite jarring and funny. And the CGI has not aged well.
