If a story is too safe then it can be easily forgotten, luckily that's not the case here. After focusing on comion to develop roots of emotion in a complicated universe in Part One, conviction becomes the foundational source of depth and uncertainty in Dune: Part Two. The story is incredibly dense and Denis Villeneuve's distinct vision allows viewers to experience a redefined blockbuster; one that is messy, emotional, dark, and perfectly overwhelming. These particular characters and the abstract environments allow actors to experiment and express a rare vulnerability in their performance, and those who test the limits of their behavior succeed immensely. Austin Butler immerses himself into the psychotic nature of Feyd-Rautha which is reflected in a performance that is unsettling and equally captivating, while Timothee Chalamet embraces the transition of a surviving student turned conquering leader. The film style is immaculate with extreme close-up shots stunning enough to silence theaters and a sound design riveting enough to create anxiety in an empty desert. The psychological journey is brilliant because it allows two films with a runtime of over 5 hours to provoke a desire to see even more, and in of a complicated Sci-Fi story of this magnitude, what more could you ask for?
