Chinatown

1974

Isn't that something? Middle of a drought and the water commissioner drowns. Only in L.A.

Seedy and stylish, I love the way chinatown exists in this film as some sort of altered plane of reality, maybe its just seeing it in LA and coming off of a wave of lynch rewatches that I have this feeling like this whole city is on the thinnest stretch of the vale, that nearly anywhere in this city could at some point become a hub of strangeness and sudden ugliness beyond explanation.

Film looked amazing at the Egyptian, what a fun theater, tacky but I dig it.

Visually stunning and atmospheric as all hell, beautiful imagery and a subtle but still intriguing backstory.

Incredibly charming.

Hats off to the film maker and everyone involved for creating such a stirring and moving film in the midst of the chaos happening in Ukraine.

Considering the times, the message, or rather the method of delivery for the message of the film, humour in the face of despair is beautiful to see.

It's a simple film that wears it's inspirations explicitly on its sleeves, but ill be damned if it isn't the most endearing and approachable film I've seen all festival. Please see it if you have a chance.

The Sexiest Man in Winnipeg

2025

Watched

A crap and dragging documentary about the most annoying man in Winnipeg that really should have been a 15 minute YouTube true crime video essay.

Yes, the title got me and I stayed because it was background noise at the office, but had I not been working I would've switched off.
