Who am I to dislike the most unserious M:I? I think that if we'd made it 7 movies deep into this series without one of these, I'd be asking them to give this a try just to see what it would look like. Knowing now what it looks like, I'm glad they got it out of their system early...but there's too much fun to be had with this approach, realized too exuberantly (with the rare memorably melodic Zimmer theme!), for me to be down on this. Long live the exploding sunglasses.

"You're here! You're right here, and you're ready to fight! We're the rhydo, kid. We're the fuel. We're the thing that explodes when there's too much friction in the air. Let it in, boy! That's freedom calling! Let it in! Let it run! Let it run wild!"

Today is, to the best of my memory, the first single day during which I've seen two movies aux ciné (barring a festival or employee screening at the theater where I work).

One was Sinners.

One was A Minecraft Movie.

You'd think the 4-star movie would be the one with a Jennifer Coolidge romcom smuggled into it, but you'd be wrong. The rest of Minecraft is that bad. One star for each time I laughed when she wasn't on screen.

Now, maybe Sinners would've cracked that perfect 5/5 if it had a Jennifer Coolidge romcom smuggled into it.

The moral of the story is clear: flagrant monogamists get the bad bitches.

My 2025 in Film, Ranked

As for an actual review, this film is so dense that it worked both for and against it - just in my own experience. I wasn't immediately engrossed, and so my mind wandered (decreasingly frequently) at moments in the first two acts. But as soon as my focus returned, I immediately realized I'd missed something relevant, that I'd been trusted to be keeping track of every dialogue datum. Which is good! So I wasn't sure quite how engaged I felt for a good half the movie, but as my rating might suggest, everything came together immensely well in the end (and completely coherently, even having drifted in and out for a minute or two total).

My 2024: 67 (64 films)
Goal for 2025: 68

Every feature-length narrative film or single season I watched for the first time this year, ranked in answer to the question: "How much did I love watching the story?"

That doesn't necessarily correlate with star ratings (which usually weigh "objective" quality more heavily), so ratings don't always descend down the list.

  1. GoodFellas

Most Anticipated of 2025 2474m https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/most-anticipated-of-2025/ letterboxd-list-25941806 Tue, 26 Jul 2022 04:11:44 +1200 <![CDATA[

MA'24: 15/19

The goal is to see everything on this list in 2025. It may not be in theaters, and I may see other releases instead; but I don't want to let the movies I'm most excited for me by, so I'm aiming for a 100% by December 31, 2025.

Rules for alterations are as follows:

1. Films can shift positions in this list until I see one of them, at which point the list ceases to be "Anticipated" in its entirety.
2. I can, however, add releases that I discover throughout the year in any spot below the first four (in keeping with LB's "Four Faves"), unless a film was already above the top four's places in my all-time list and simply received a 2025 release late.
3. Any releases of which I was aware before the year began that didn't make the list until a trailer or buzz got me excited must go on the bottom, below those that had my attention from the start.
4. Buzz from pre-release showings puts such additions below even those of the prior variety, since it's a reaction to the finished film, not the expectation.

#1 ensures that the list is still reflective of my feelings at the beginning of the year when the releases I was anticipating still held that status, while #2-#4 allow the later films of the year to be represented in a list that is meant to cover the entire year without undercutting the long-awaited arrivals.

2025 | 2026 | 2027

This list is for showing everything I'm excited for instead of just one year's releases, and allows me to cycle titles out as I see them and cycle new announcements in. That's as opposed to my "Most Anticipated" lists for each year, which I still do so that I can have a record of my hopes for that year and compare my projection to how I felt at the end.

  1. Andor: A Disney+ Day Special Look

  2. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse

Every Movie in the Universe in Chronological Order 182m3f https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/every-movie-in-the-universe-in-chronological/ letterboxd-list-49273469 Fri, 26 Jul 2024 10:05:05 +1200 <![CDATA[

I present to you the very real, very accurate, very complete timeline of our universe! From the edges of space and time to the moments that ed just out of the corner of your eye, these movies are proof that everything they document most certainly happened. If you don't it...how'd you miss all the action? What a boring life that must be.

Contributions and corrections are appreciated! (Shows and shorts, too.) Please include the title (love a link), the story's setting in time (the more exact the better, but at least the year for anything within a century of today; less precision needed the farther out the setting lies), and the source (i.e. dialogue, deductive process walk-through).

Submission rules:
1. A film must treat its baseline reality as a depiction of our own world.
2. There must be some on-screen or in-universe evidence for a year. Internal disagreement on dates doesn't disqualify a film, but the logic for why to favor one possible date over others must be provided - no splitting the difference here. No "present day = release year" either.
3. No documentaries/other "non-fiction", but "true stories" are OK since it's already a step removed from reality.
4. The following are accepted on a case-by-case basis:

a) Contemporary-set epics. With how crowded the near-present day is, the thought of placing modern figures' biopics and such alongside single points on the timeline is daunting.

b) Time travel. The course of history should be relatively unchanged by the movie for it to work here.

Scores I've Listened to in Full 3d1u27 https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/scores-ive-listened-to-in-full/ letterboxd-list-26968766 Tue, 13 Sep 2022 11:00:47 +1200 <![CDATA[

I've ranked the most notable of these here. These are the scores I'm currently listening to, and please recommend me more here! I've listened to every available album front-to-back for every film on this list, so don't be shy about giving me even more to hear.

Film scores are my favorite genre of music; it's easily 90% of what I listen to, and 95% is probably closer to the truth. I've compiled The Sound of Stories over about half a decade at this point, ever since a junior-year (of high school) French class indirectly led to my rediscovery of the music of Star Wars. In that time, I've listened to cumulative months' worth of scores, whittling countless cues down to the very best of the best for my ever-growing playlist. I've listened to The Sound of Stories itself so much that I practically know all its 48+ hours (36+ at time of initial list publication) by heart.

This list could never be complete, for a couple of reasons: 1) I've also listened to TV scores, video game scores, even theme park scores, and those aren't listed on LB (but the TV scores can, in fact, be found listed here); 2) there's no way I'll be able to every score I've ever listened to. But the majority of stuff I can listening to comes from film, so there's no better place to put this list. I just want to make sure I don't forget any more albums in the future.

It's worth noting that not everything here was even good enough to make my playlist, but if a film is here, I gave it a fair shot and listened to its whole album.

Most recent addition is at the top, with recency of completion (I listen to multiple scores at once) decreasing down the list until The Boss Baby, which was the latest listen upon publishing. Finish dates are in the notes once I started tracking them. After Boss Baby, films are organized roughly in increasing recognizability of the scores. First are films with no sequels whose scores are the only ones of those composers that I've heard; then come und scores from the same composers, by increasing quantity of movies; then franchises whose installments I haven't collected completely - and finally, complete franchises - by increasing scale of the property. Regardless of future additions affecting the tally of those categories, existing positions will not change because the new additions will remain in the dated section of the list.

The Ultimate MCU Watch Order 1w6m27 Updated and Complete Marvel Cinematic Universe https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/the-ultimate-mcu-watch-order-updated-and/ letterboxd-list-20892289 Tue, 23 Nov 2021 11:56:51 +1300 <![CDATA[

It's all here: a no-spoiler first watch; designated essentials and tangents; & more than a chronological or release order, a rewatch crafted for a universe. Welcome to the MCU - this list (and description) is the guide you've waited for!

Vital Disclaimers:

1. First-timers, check each entry's notes before playing: they detail which credits scenes to skip/watch. These small adjustments prevent severe spoilers. (Otherwise, always stay for the credits!)

2. This visual aid provides a structural understanding of the order that can't be represented here. Each row is a self-serving arc, best approximated below by groups of patterned posters, where entries that don't fit into their surroundings are inessential. Still, the graphic can't replace the list thanks to Disclaimer #1.

This list is my endeavor to best realize the "U" in MCU. Where release and chronological orders both delegate their arrangement to some calendar or another, my conceit here is to involve chronology, settings, and themes in distilling coherent arcs—or "Phrases", if you're a cheeky MCU nerd. The result: the dissonant leaps of subject and tone that pepper a march down the timetable instead give way to organic development of an interconnected story. In being guided by the larger narrative over a detached datebook, I hope to bring forth the most cohesive and expressive telling of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If you're new to the MCU and spoilerphobic, set that concern aside: I've carefully curated each detail so that the only spoiler here is the inevitable "Who's on the next poster". You can read every word without worry! (But do tread carefully in unlinked comments.) Look out for bolded phrases in notes: those are especially relevant to first watches. As well as preventing spoilers, notes add other (optional) dimensions to the watch. Where needed, TV episodes are coded as ###, read [season #][episode ##].

Although they have deviated over time, this list wouldn't exist without the rewatch order created by Robby Earle, co-host and resident rewatch order craftsman of the (superb) Friends from Work Podcast.

That's everything you ought to know before you begin! The following links contain extra insight into this list and ways to broaden, tailor, or trim your watch. If none of them interest you, then continue on to the story and enjoy a new MCU experience!

If you've made it this far, I have compensation for your persistence: buttons to transform this list into the release and chronological (by the span of in-universe time most heavily occupied by the story) orders. I sincerely believe the sequence I've laid out is an improvement upon both, but if I've failed to convince you, something called The Ultimate MCU Watch Order should still be the only MCU aid you'd ever need.

  • Captain America: The First Avenger

    Phrase 1: Breaking the Ice

Skip credits scene (End playback during credits)

What If...? rewatch-only: Watch 101 next.

    Timeline Outline:
The majority of the plot is set from 1943 to mid-winter 1945, though it covers some years in either direction.
The first Phrase of the MCU is an arc of ice-breaking 1) between the audience and the onscreen universe, 2) between integral characters, and 3)...well, you'll see. The MCU's opening entry facilitates these introductions at a significant moment in the timeline: the inception of story threads that will bear fruit for the entire Infinity Saga.

First Watch Pro Tip: Just in case you're not feeling these early entries, give it through Iron Man before deciding whether or not to continue. There's a reason it catalyzed the MCU!

  • Marvel One-Shot: Agent Carter

What If...? rewatch-only: Watch 302 after the Agent Carter series.

    Timeline Outline:
Winter 1946. One year has ed since the last scene shared by Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger.

This is a convenient place to begin the series Agent Carter (MCU Periphery), the canon show following Peggy after the events of the One-Shot. It need not be finished before continuing onto Iron Man, but doing so would ensure the full picture of MCU history is carried forward in your watch. Covering both seasons, this is the

    Agent Carter Timeline Outline:
101-108: April-May 1946. Some time has ed since the One-Shot as Peggy and Howard Stark's situations have changed, but the year is explicitly the same. 105 is on April 25th and 108 on May 8, both given in dialogue.
201-210: July 1947. The year is given by on-screen text, and 203 takes place on July 15 according to one newspaper date acknowledged in dialogue.

  • Iron Man

What If...? rewatch-only: Watch 106 next.

    Timeline Outline:
2008. The latest references to this story double down on this original intended date, despite some other attempts to construe it as nearer to its follow-ups. Dialogue in the film indicates a three-month age between the beginnings of the first two acts.
The ignition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes on even weightier implications thanks to elements encountered in the prior entries.

  • Iron Man 2

    Timeline Outline:
Late summer 2010; Part 1 of "Fury's Big Week". Much of this film, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor's events occur across the same seven days. The three movies reference each others' ongoing events, so despite these and more contributing warring evidence for the year in which this week es, all three are placed in 2010: some time cards and dialogue are stretched beyond sense, but they're all less wrong than they would be if the contradicting evidence were made to work perfectly.
Characters continue to collide unexpectedly with each other as greater agendas reveal themselves to those observing.

  • The Incredible Hulk

    No credits scenes

    Timeline Outline:
Late summer 2010; Fury's Big Week, Part 2. The events of these three movies overlap to the point where it's impossible to say which happens "first", but this is best watched after Iron Man 2 for continuity.
What seems the green sheep of the franchise still bridges characters not only across this Phrase, but across Sagas.

And no spoilers here, but in case it's your first watch and you weren't aware: the very next instant after the final frame, Bruce Banner fucking dies. His tongue hulks out before the rest of his head can catch up and he chokes to death on the gigantic green squishy tube in his mouth that is his tongue. He's jerking all around with a hand down his throat, trying to yank a piece of his own body out from his gullet, but he starts losing vigor until his hand drops from his mouth to hang by his side and he just kinda sags against the wall, motionless, with what looks like an enormously thick and prickly garden hose still forcing his mouth open and hanging past his chin.
Then Bark Buffalo, ancient deity of the Democraticsocialistgyptians, emerges from the Twittervoid and inhabits the dead body to make the Hulk his Avatar on Earth, because Bark Buffalo is all about that green energy.
Unfortunately, this footage was lost in a targeted attack by the Credible Folk extremist group, an attack that thankfully left the rest of the film in a reparable state. Disturbed by the prospect of his story going unfinished, though, Bark Buffalo appeared to me while I slept and presented visions of the destroyed scene. Before the awe of witnessing such a tragic and triumphant display of divine demise and rebirth woke me, he called me to go forth and spread word of the truth through my platform on Letterboxd, promising blessings of immense musculature and self-defeating progressive government policies upon my bloodline - and the bloodlines of those who like this list - should I perform my duties to his satisfaction. (He was very insistent on using Letterboxd.)
And that's why Bruce Banner looks different in his later MCU appearances.

  • Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant

    Timeline Outline:
2012. Technically set after the events of Thor (indeed, well after the end of Fury's Big Week), the events of The Incredible Hulk are more relevant here.

  • Marvel One-Shot: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer

    Timeline Outline:
May 31, 2010; Fury's Big Week, Part 2.99. The short is set between the end of Iron Man 2 and its credits scene, early in the events of The Incredible Hulk and Thor (but without spoiling anything that isn't revealed earlier in the list).

  • Thor

    What If...? rewatch-only: Watch 107 next. | Watch 207 next. | Watch 304 next.

    Timeline Outline:
Late summer 2010; Fury's Big Week, Part 3. Several other dated installments reference the amount of time that has ed since this movie, setting it in this year. Its relevance to The Avengers suggests it be watched very near to the universe-defining crossover.
Thor breaks the last barrier before the Phrase finale.

  • Captain Marvel

Skip only mid-credits scene (Fast-forward after credits title card)

    Timeline Outline:
1995. A prop indicates June. Although it's bookended by entries set in the present day, Captain Marvel's being removed from the present does not create discrepancies in the causality between entries. (This holds true for any entry placed out of accordance with the timeline.)
While a step back in time might appear a step through already-broken ice between most characters and plot elements here, their status in 1995 recontextualizes those relationships as they're carried into the present day.

The new Marvel Studios card may be unexpected without context, but this film was the first MCU project released after Stan Lee's ing; the unique sequence is a tribute to his persona and spirit.

  • The Avengers

    Phrase 1 Finale

Rewatch-only: Watch Loki 101-206 after reaching 2:09:37 in this entry, then complete the film after 206.

    What If...? rewatch-only: Watch 103 next. | Watch 204 next. | Watch 203 next.

    Timeline Outline:
2012. It is one of the most firmly-entrenched dates in the MCU.
This is it: the great experiment, the ultimate icebreaker between the characters and ideas across the Phrase, as well as between the audience and the possibilities offered by the MCU.

This diagram, although its dates have now been retconned by the movies themselves, is still handy for deciphering the order of events contained within Fury's Big Week. All time intervals in the diagram that do not correlate with the dates in this list are inaccurate, since the dates in this list are based off of the most up-to-date understanding of the timeline.

Three live-action remakes this year is three too many. What animated movies should I watch instead? I have so many classics to discover, or to re-experience for the first time since eeeearly childhood. If you've got obscure avant-garde stuff from any period that flips the medium on its head, all the better. The only reason I might not add something is if I'm familiar with it enough to not need a rewatch.

Any live-action stuff you see is just to serve the general "2025" purpose of the list as prep for a couple new releases I plan to catch.

I figure I won't 100% the list, but it'll be the first pool I pull from when I sit down to watch movies at home this year.

This isn't limited just to movie music! I'll happily take recs from TV, video games, audio dramas, even theme parks. I've listened to scores from all of those before, and I certainly will again - especially if you comment your favorites!
The very best tracks I find go into The Sound of Stories. There, you'll find over two days' worth of the best film music ever, for your listening pleasure and mine.

My submission for the fortnightly challenge. Entries for the current showdown occupy only the top ten (which are the only entries sampled for the results), with those for past showdowns listed in descending order of recency. The first of every selection has the showdown category in its notes. Movies can be reused in up to three later showdowns, so older categories may now contain fewer than ten entries due to some of their films having moved into a more recent selection. (The notes for a film will detail its past appearances.)

These are ranked, but in groups of ten(ish, as enumerated above) before it resets for the previous Showdown's group, so the ranking feature wouldn't make much sense (and the ranking doesn't matter for the results either).

Since this page seems to have some eyes on it once in a while, I'll plug a list on which I've actually worked quite hard, and these top TV charts.

My ranking of this franchise I cling to with continuously diminishing returns, possibly out of fealty to my hard work on The Ultimate MCU Watch Guide.

The following is where every series - to the extent of them I've seen - would lie in this list (positions not adjusted by higher insertions):

Daredevil (2015) at #6.
Jessica Jones Season 1 at #21.
Agent Carter at #31.
Luke Cage Season 1 at #33.

This is the ranking for all individual seasons I've watched.

  1. Avengers: Infinity War
  2. Captain America: Civil War
  3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  4. Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of X-Men '97

    Placeholder for X-Men '97 Season 1
Followed by The Punisher Season 1

  5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

    Followed by Daredevil S1

  6. Guardians of the Galaxy
  7. Spider-Man: No Way Home

Ranked by increasing (from the bottom) disparity in quality from trailer to movie. I.e. in first is TRoS, with an all-time great trailer for one of the most repulsive products of all time; and in last is Eternals, with an excellent teaser for a movie that was quite good without fully realizing the trailer's promise.
(Specific trailer for each in notes.)
Tremendous Trailers ranks every great trailer on their own .

Most Anticipated of 2024 6o6o5r https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/most-anticipated-of-2024/ letterboxd-list-24307128 Wed, 4 May 2022 09:18:38 +1200 <![CDATA[

MA'23: 17/31

The goal is to see everything on this list in 2024. It may not be in theaters, and I may see other releases instead; but I don't want to let the movies I'm most excited for me by, so I'm aiming for a 100% by December 31, 2024.

Rules for alterations are as follows:

1. Films can shift positions in this list until the time that I see one of them, at which point the list ceases to be 100% "Anticipated".
2. I can, however, add releases that I discover throughout the year in any spot below the first four (in keeping with LB's "Four Faves"), unless it was given a 2024 release late and was already above the first four in my all-time list.

  1. Music by John Williams

    Watched - streaming

  2. Dune: Part Two

    Watched - theatrical

  3. Joker: Folie à Deux

This is just a guess that it'll end up coming out in 2024, can't wait to be proven right.

Edit: I was proven right on this one too

Cannot WAIT to see a Joker musical, it's gonna be something for sure

  4. Deadpool & Wolverine

    Watched - theatrical

My 2023: 87 (82 films)
Goal for 2024: 88 (83 films)

Every feature-length narrative film or single season I watched for the first time this year, ranked in answer to the question: "How much did I love watching the story?"

That doesn't necessarily correlate with star ratings (which usually weigh "objective" quality more heavily), so ratings don't always descend down the list.

  1. Dune: Part Two
  2. The Iron Giant
  3. Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of X-Men '97

Time 3b1j5n Warping, Ranked (Spoilers!) https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/time-warping-ranked-spoilers/ letterboxd-list-22838751 Wed, 16 Feb 2022 20:14:10 +1300 <![CDATA[

Idea stolen from Andrew
Criteria to make the list: whether the movie is filled with leaps through the years or only has a single sequence that brushes with time-bending, the warping of physical time must be integral to the entire plot. For example, I considered putting both 2001: A Space Odyssey and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie on this list, but 2001's hotel room of compressed time isn't necessary to the earlier happenings of the story, and Wizards just sort of replaces events in the past without actually enacting a physical process that alters the flow of time. And no version of, say, "A Christmas Carol" could make the list, because the time travel there is metaphysical.
What "time-warping" entails here is the traversal of time at different rates or in different directions by separate characters or settings.
The stories are ranked by the neatness and/or intrigue of the system of time travel utilized, and how well-realized the consequences are. Quality of the film itself has no bearing on its placement, but a great movie likely has more impactful consequences.

  1. Arrival
  2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  3. Ms. Marvel
  4. Planet of the Apes
  5. Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of What If...?

Stand-in for What If...? Episode 4: "What If Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands?"

IIRC, there are two "timelines" but one self-consistent version of events. That's the kind of inventive - but still perfectly logical - stuff we deserve in our time travel stories.

  6. Midnight in Paris
  7. Doctor Who: The Day of the Doctor
  8. Doctor Strange
  9. The Boy and the Heron
  10. The Polar Express

My headcanon is that the Conductor is the literal future self of the Believer, and as the express clearly has the ability to freeze time, I don't see that as being all that farfetched a notion. And so I rank it thus here.

I got sentimental at 1am, so I decided to make this little walk down Memory Lane to commemorate all the good times I've had in theaters.

Spoilers for, like, everything. Duh.

  • Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

I'd listened to the score many times before going to see this, but I still wasn't prepared to be hit with the one-two punch of "Hedwig's Theme" and then JNH's original theme for FB. It was instant magic, and I was back in the Wizarding World like no time had ed at all.

  • The Lego Batman Movie

I, at 15 years old, went with a bunch of other 15- and 16-year-olds, and we couldn't stop laughing throughout the whole thing. My friend Kyle started laughing ironically at the "Buttler" line and then wasn't able to stop laughing at himself for like two minutes. It was glorious.

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I laughing in sheer giddiness at seeing Leia reach out with the Force. I still love Carrie Poppins.

  • Avengers: Infinity War

Of course it was silent through the credits, but it it said "Thanos will return", I blurted out, "Oh, you just had to rub it in!" and a guy or two in front of me heard and laughed.

Also, back when I thought Captain Marvel was going to be a good movie, I'd been reading up about it so I recognized the symbol when it appeared on Fury's pager. I went "Oh! Oh! Captain Marvel!" - full on Leonardo-Dicaprio-in-Once-Upon-a-Time-in-Hollywood-ing - and got to talk excitedly to the friends I saw it with (my best friend and a couple folks from my youth group) about what it meant.

    Those were the days.

  • Avengers: Endgame

I more details from this night than any other theater experience ever.

I'd put off getting tickets for weeks as I tried to get my friends to see it opening night with me, but for one reason or another, none of them would/could. That was how I found myself sitting in the very front row, one seat away from the far right end, staring almost straight up at the screen when the lights went down. The man who occupied the far right end seat, who wasn't much older than I was, suddenly roared, "LET'S KILL THANOOOOOOOOOOOOOS!!!!!" and the entire audience was set ablaze with cheers.

So many moments had audible responses from all of us that night, but when Cap caught that silly flying hammer...it was transcendent. One single thought was being screamed in the minds of every single one of us, all at the same moment, and it came bellowing out of our mouths in one simultaneous, bombastic noise of ecstasy. Then Portals hit, and it was just constantly building pandemonium at every reappearance. I don't even know if we heard Cap say, "...Assemble." I don't care. It was practically the genesis of a physical form for unadulterated enthusiasm.

Then the crying started at Tony's death. I wasn't moved the way others were, but the whole theater gained a subtle layer of sound from the backs of hands being brushed against cheeks and the wiping of running noses. I'm nearly certain it remained all the way through Steve's dance with Peggy.

I doubt anyone left the theater during the credits that night (not that I would know for sure, since I was in the front row - that's the section in front of the main walkway to the exits). We all paid our respects and allowed our hearts to swell once again when Silvestri's fanfare introduced the curtain call for the Avengers, and watched the Infinity Saga part from us with the softening echo of Tony's forging.

That was three years ago now. As demonstrated by what I've written, it was unforgettable.

  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

On here because of the solidarity formed between me and a few strangers when we bonded over roasting this movie. It was a true camaraderie only possible at the movie theater.

Then I went and got ice cream at Safeway to convince myself I still had reasons to live after realizing this was the end of the Skywalker Saga.

  • Dune

The Paseo Nuevo theater rocked my seat with Zimmer's score and it was transporting.

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

The cheers and tears were real.

My friends said they wished they'd recorded my reactions because I had the biggest "WHOA"s and "YEAH!"s of all of them. And I instigated no small number of the cheers in the audience.

  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

I heard some of the loudest, and simultaneously some of the most varied in tone, audible responses from this audience ever.

  • Thor: Love and Thunder

I wanted to scream out, "DARRYL! IT'S FUCKING DARRYL!" but nobody else seemed to recognize him. It HURT.

The best trailers of all time (links in notes); the ones that legitimize trailers as their own art form.

Ranked by the quality of each entry's best trailer, not by the combined merit of every teaser and trailer.

Derived from the playlist I put together on YouTube over the years of all my favorites.

Free advice on making a great trailer:
1) Use John Williams themes
2) Profit

  1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

    Honorable Mention: Teaser Trailer

  2. Joker

  4. Avengers: Endgame

  5. WandaVision

    Official Trailer

    Honorable Mention: Official Trailer 2

  6. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

    Official Trailer

    Honorable Mention: Teaser Trailer

If only I could still watch this like I did before the movie came out: without being repulsed by every image and sound that reminded me the Emperor is in this. An even greater gap in quality between trailer and movie than there was between Suicide Squad.

  7. Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio

    Official Teaser

  8. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning

    Official Teaser

  9. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

You can listen to the list in order here (just keep in mind that some themes are part of longer suites).
Idea being shamelessly stolen from the fantastic Friends from Work Podcast, this is a ranking of the (or a) main theme in each MCU project (that has at least a decent theme). It may be for a specific character, a group of characters, or a place or idea. They're ranked in their purest form, which means I'm not considering variations that may be better or worse than the themes themselves or other variations. Check notes for the specific track.

  1. Black Panther

    "Wakanda" - Ludwig Göransson

  2. Guardians of the Galaxy

    "Black Tears" - Tyler Bates

  3. The Avengers

So, you want more out of the Whoniverse than whatever streamer you use for Who, or my basic how-to for the revival era, can offer? That list only incorporates the most influential minisodes, and I made sure their notes won't be missed any more than the shorts themselves should you neglect them. Here, I operate under the assumption that you're at least reading - if not watching - everything! So if you do skip a short, don't also skip the contents of its notes (whose viewing precedes the associated entry). The system will be much more intuitive when TV is implemented on Letterboxd, of which this list exists in anticipation.

The only rule is that you can on anything without golden rods or a blue diamond on the bottom logo and still get all you need - as long as you read their notes!

This is a clone of the third list I ever published on Letterboxd. I'd like to preserve that one and see how long it goes without change, so this is the one I modify if I want to adjust it or add new tags.

Basically, I just want to preserve the original - no edits.

(Seeing as the most recent two FB movies are not canon, they may be removed from this Wizarding World list in the future.)

  1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
  2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  4. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone
  5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
  6. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
  7. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  8. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
  9. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Most Anticipated of 2023 23403d https://letterboxd.sitesdebloques.org/speedlancer/list/most-anticipated-of-2023/ letterboxd-list-23558755 Fri, 25 Mar 2022 15:58:34 +1300 <![CDATA[

MA'22: 29/30*

The goal is to see everything on this list in 2023. It may not be in theaters, and I may see other releases instead; but I don't want to let the movies I'm most excited for me by, so I'm aiming for a 100% by December 31, 2023.

Rules for alterations are as follows:

1. Films can shift positions in this list until the time that I see one of them, at which point the list ceases to be 100% "Anticipated".
2. I can, however, add releases that I discover throughout the year in any spot below the first four (in keeping with LB's "Four Faves").

#1 ensures that the list is still reflective of my feelings at the beginning of 2023 when the releases I was anticipating still held that status, while #2-#4 allow the later films of 2023 to be represented in a list that is meant to cover the entire year without undercutting the long-awaited arrivals.

*I'm gonna give myself a on the last one, since I'm not sure if it came to theaters near me and I never found it available for rent.

  1. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

    Watched - pre-theatrical

  2. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning

    Watched - theatrical

    Reasoning: Hayley Atwell.

    That, and Mission Impossible: Fallout.

  3. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

    Watched - theatrical

    Hamlet Trailer

Alexis: "KEEP IT FOR THE MEME LANCE!"

  4. Asteroid City

    Watched - theatrical

  5. Doctor Who: The Star Beast

    Watched - streaming

  6. Doctor Who: Wild Blue Yonder

    Watched - streaming

  7. Doctor Who: The Giggle

    Watched - streaming

  8. Barbie

    Watched - theatrical

  9. Hot Potato: The Story of The Wiggles

  10. Oppenheimer

My 2022: 108 (101 films)
Goal for 2023: 109 (102 films)

Every feature-length narrative film or single season I watched for the first time this year, ranked in answer to the question: "How much did I love watching the story?"

That doesn't necessarily correlate with star ratings (which usually weigh "objective" quality more heavily), so ratings don't always descend down the list.

This is everything else I watched.

  1. Chernobyl
  2. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
  3. Before Sunrise
  4. The ion of Joan of Arc
  5. Blade Runner
  6. Titanic
  7. Eyes Wide Shut
  8. Blade Runner 2049

Intoxicated is a great word. These are the movies that leave me feeling intoxicated.

Ordered by most recent addition to the list. They come pretty rarely, so I want to highlight the new ones! Favorites become longer-standing as you work downwards, barring the bunch at the end: those are the current Four Faves and past of the club.

All my first watches in 2022. These are the 2022 releases.

Of my first watches, these are the feature-length narrative films and single seasons/miniseries, ranked in answer to the question: "What left the biggest impression on me?"
(Fair warning: that means that something so bad it's awesome will be above everything that's pretty good.)

Any shorts, documentaries, specials, etc. can be found in Everything Else from My 2022, Ranked.

When it comes to star ratings, I try to be generous to a movie if it's clearly well-crafted, even if it didn't speak to me as much as another did; here I'm ranking solely by how much I enjoyed a movie or how memorable it was, so stars actually increase while going down the list in some places.

  1. Everything Everywhere All at Once
  2. Babylon
  3. Oldboy
  4. Jurassic Park

Okay, I'm nearly certain I've seen this before; I just have so little familiarity with it that watching it this year might as well have been the first time I did.

  5. RRR
  6. Lady Bird
  7. Aftersun
  8. Moonlight
  9. Andor: A Disney+ Day Special Look

    Andor Season 1 stand-in

  10. Your Name.
