Maybe it’s lowered expectations after too many mediocre or worse instalments (including the TV shows), but surprisingly not bad. In large part because this instalment bothers to think about its characters (even if it only develops a few of them) and doesn’t embarrass itself using them to build out an allegory about depression, isolation and mutual . And without going too crazy bombastic with the big finale setpiece - the metaphor is enough.

A expensively bland outline of a globe trotting spy action thriller. A plethora of overly elaborate cg action sequences that disassemble themselves as they play out doesn’t help the experience.

The Predator concept works best when things are kept simple. And this instalment is the first one in a long time to get that right, running the opposite direction from the overly elaborate yet totally pointless setup of The Predator. Very effective and creditable on its own.
