Godzilla Minus One

A film that simultaneously honours the majesty of Godzilla and the tragedy of World War II. Takashi Yamazaki delivers a blockbuster worthy of the tributes it pays to a certain Mr. Spielberg.

Enjoyable and well rounded characters exist in a traumatized Japan, laden with post-war guilt and that's where Godzilla Minus One really excels. Yamazaki rejects the need to anthropomorphize the titular character and instead trusts his characters to do the heavy-lifting. That's not to say that we don't get…

I was well aware of the negative reception the film had received before sitting down to watch this and yet, somehow, this was still worse than I expected.

I've sat on this for a couple of days because I was so irritated after watching and I didn't want emotions to cloud my thoughts...
.... it hasn't helped in the slightest.

David Gordon Green, what in the world are we going to do with you? You can't just be going around…

*Watched with James Gunn commentary

Seen this probably half a dozen times but my main takeaway from this viewing was just how vulnerable Chris Pratt's performance is. He's clearly become a massive Hollywood star since this was released and carries himself as such in his recent films but here, there's still an air of unsureness that I think really elevates the character/film.

Watched this with commentary to potentially get an insight into how Gunn might approach Superman and I won't lie, this got me excited for the summer release.

Naked Gun 33⅓ may not live up to the strength of its predecessors but it still delivers exactly what is expected of the series, absurd slapstick and the deadpan brilliance of Leslie Nielsen.

It’s silly and self-aware but still manages to retain an overwhelming amount of nonsense that only the talents of the Zucker brothers could pull off. That said, I watched this is in preparation for the return of Naked Gun this summer and I'm really hoping (cautiously optimistic)…

Nice of Steve Soderbergh to remind us all of the itch that a 90 minute, tongue-in-cheek, spy movie can scratch.

Crisp and clean performances all around here, guided by an incredibly experienced director that clearly knows how to handle the genre.

Not sure if the film ever really finds fifth gear but it's well focused and knows exactly what it's trying to achieve, particularly on a thematic level.

Black Bag
's inherent quality is a painful reminder of the usual spy-thriller dross that Netflix force down people's throats on a weekly basis.

Check it out!

Not since Twilight has a movie about vampires gone this mainstream and as a pretty big fan of the sub-genre (thank you Buffy), I'm all here for it!

The Coogler/Jordan combo continues to deliver results and now they can chalk 'Horror' off their to-do list.

My favorite aspect was the sound design which is ridiculously well done, on every single level. Ludwig Goransson is the true star of the show for me.

Couldn't help but compare this to From Dusk…
