someone randomly recommended 96 to me, and i went in knowing nothing -no trailer, no context, just a quiet evening and a curious click. it also happened to be my first ever south indian film, and safe to say, i couldn't have started with anything more honest or quietly devastating. i didn’t expect it to wreck me the way it did. it’s not loud or flashy; it doesn't try to impress you. instead, it gently wraps itself around you with nostalgia, longing, and the kind of silence that says more than words ever could.

every frame feels lived in. every dialogue, every lyric from that haunting soundtrack seeps into your skin and stays there. it's the kind of film that doesn’t just tell a story - it re it with you.

i sat staring at my wall for ten minutes after it ended. then i was a mess. as someone who’s a sucker for heartbreaking cinema, this was a masterpiece of restraint and ache. i know, deeply, what it means to carry love that time never really lets you have. to let someone go, even when every inch of you wants to hold on - is one of life’s cruelest mercies.
this film made the simplest act - just holding someone's hand feel like the loudest scream of everything unsaid. it stirred something in me. sometimes i wonder... would i have regretted letting go a little less if i had just reached out? if i had held their hand and talked to them, even once, about time and love and all the things we never got around to saying. life isn’t always kind. and time shows no mercy. but maybe... maybe that moment could have changed something. or maybe not. i don’t know. i still don’t have answers.

96 doesn’t scream. it whispers. and somehow that hurts more.

owen was so phenomenal as jamie, and the kid has never acted before????
3rd episode had me in a chokehold. the whole interaction with briony and the way briony is left to tackle the weight of it and just breaks down?? IMPECCABLE WRITING. mind boggling, honestly. the suspense, buildup, the change of plea, everything about this show was so raw. the ending? devastating. everything unraveling in those final moments, eddie hugging the teddy bear and crying.

this show set my standard so high, i will probably not find ANYTHING like this ever.
my babies ae-sun and gwang-sik deserved the world. my heart ACHES for the things they went through.
what i loved the most about this one is the SIMPLE YET SUCH EMOTIONAL SCRIPT WRITING, THE NARRATION DONE BY gumyeong that wrapped the entire thing into a bittersweet yet nostalgic warmth.
i cannot stop thinking about it. the script for this show was nothing short of a poetry. so raw and yet it struck harder.
every character,every mad episode, made me SOB UNCONTROLLABLY for hours straight till my eyes were dry and heart was heavy.
this show is not jst another kdrama, ITS AN EXPERIENCE.

this show made me appreciate my parents in a way i never had before. after the final episode, all i wanted was to hug my dad—hold him tight and tell him i’m sorry for every time i wasn’t enough, for every unspoken thank you he deserved. because time is cruel. it takes without warning, stealing moments we thought we had forever to say. and I never want to let it rob me of the chance to tell him how much he means to me.

i hope when love finds me, it finds me like how it did for ae sun and gwang sik. a love that doesn't need grand gestures and a heart who would choose the same person over and over again.

this is probably the longest review of something i have ever written because i am filled with such emotions rn that are probably so scattered and so hard to describe in a letterboxd review.
crying as i write this,
EVERY THING about this show was 5/5. the soundtracks, cinematography, script writing, the plot twists, the characters, their growth- every part was breathtaking.

i had no idea who IU was before this, but after the performance of a lifetime she delivered in this show, i’m obsessed. her acting felt so natural, so effortless, that it pulled me right into her world- like i was experiencing everything alongside her.
and park bo-gum, the way he looked at ae-sun, that quiet, unwavering love in his eyes, it was everything. their chemistry was just incredible, every glance and every moment between them carrying so much weight. the pure and quiet love.
the actors who played middle-aged ae-sun and gwang-sik were exceptional. they captured something so rare—the way love changes with time but never truly fades. even in sadness, even in silence, it endured. and that was the most beautiful part of it all.

caught the nana komatsu bug, and i'm not complaining.

the best thing that i like about makoto shinkai's movies and what distinguishes from typical genres is that they always transcend time and distance. this movie is for people who loved '5 cm per second', 'weathering with you' and 'your name'. his movies always have great emotional depth and breath taking animation that keeps you hooked to the screen, add in heartfelt soundtracks that make your eyes go teary.
'the place promised in our early days' is probably his most underrated work, beautifully exploring themes of childhood dreams, lost connections, and the way life changes as we grow up.

but i think it was a very fitting end for the series, considering how they helped each other grow. marianna finally realising her self worth and CHOOSING to continue the way she's living now, connell finally getting the opportunity in new york he deserves and having enough confidence to go and do something he loves and knowing marianne s him.
this time, they don't have a messy breakup and they communicate their feelings with each other. i am utterly heartbroken but really happy for their individual selves.
ANYTHING PAUL MESCAL IS IN GIVES ME TRAUMA, but he's such a phenomenal actor.

i really have so many questions because this film had the oddest plot.
might as well rate it 5 stars since it was 3 hrs of brad pitt eating peanut butter and his eyes shining the brightest i have ever seen

this quote stuck with me.
this isn't one of those tearjerker movies, it just leaves you with a heavy impression and weight of memories. the cinematography and especially the color coding of various scenes, represented the feeling of melancholy and hidden desires perfectly. a movie with so much emotional depth that a simple act of holding hands could leave you thinking about it for v long.
this film was all about constraints that we're bounded by because of society, missed opportunities, lingering feelings, unspoken words, stolen glances.
if i could represent Wong Kar-wai's movies in 1 word i would choose "yearning"

such bold narrative structure, quirky characters, iconic scenes such as the dance off at jack rabbit slim's to ezekiel 25:17 monologue, everything about this film was extremely engaging. the unpredictability of this one and how this masterpiece blended dark humor,violence,the world of crime, philosophy into a tapestry had me gripping my seat awaiting the next scene and how it surprised me.
i loved the character of the laid back vincent and carefree mia. their chemistry was undeniable.
the philosophical parallel between vincent and jules was where i took a moment of pause. how jules decided to move away from the life of violence and how vincent doesn't change at all (later dies). a core theme of the film - redemption (as we see through the lives of butch and jules)
this film isn't for everyone but for those who embrace its chaotic charm. cool and endlessly quotable with numerous unforgettable moments.

took me two times to understand the movie, the timeline and little details that i missed during the first watch.
today, i watched it again and i HAVE to say it's truly a cinematic masterpiece. i sobbed uncontrollably and i still cant listen to "under pressure" without crying.

despite being extremely slow paced, decent jump scares. plot was a 2.5/5. acting was pretty good.
there were some pretty good details abt the movie that i absolutely loved. it kinda broke the 4th wall, it was very interactive and creepy at the same time. the movie was made to lure the audience into the whole thing and make it seem like that v were a part of it.
the end detail of the final chant and then the screen goes pitch white and we can see an optical illusion of the cursed symbol, ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED ME.
another thing i noticed after reading the reddit reviews was that the main protagonist bashes her head 4 times. 4 is Si in Mandarin language which translates to the character "death". In china/ taiwan, 4 is considered a bad luck.
these kinda details really immerse you in the movie and make it a good experience.

AAARGH went through a roller coaster of emotions, japanese directors are rly fond of "heartbreaks and tragedies".
whenever i need a good cry, i always pick up a Japanese movie.
"love like the falling petals" was no less. made me sob a lot and appreciate the time i have been given, the life i have been given and to preserve every little memory.
i loved the acting of kento nakajima (haruto) but more than that, i loved nagayama kento, absolutely winning performance.
moreover this movie definitely taught, to never give up on one's dreams. never quitting without trying.
the movie was a bit slow paced but it really connects you w the characters.

the silence in the whole film was so loud while only emotions conveyed, was the only highlight for me.
i was dicey about how things were turning out to be and i still haven't processed it fully.
i loved how anila took stand for mira at the end. "i decide who comes to my home." slapping the teacher in the face w that 1.
the last moment where they connect and mira oils her mother's hair subtly reconciling w her was a favourite moment.

by the end of the movie, I WAS FILLED WITH DEEP UNSETTLING RAGE and a heart with heavy emotions contemplating, "WHAT? THATS IT? ALL THAT FOR A LITTLE MISUNDERSTANDING???"
i hated how briony/tallis tried to lessen her guilt by giving them what? a fictional ending? is that supposed to fix everything? after SHE PRACTICALLY RUINED THEIR LIVES? the actresses for briony played the character 'evil- villainous- jealous-sister' so well that i hated it.
when the credits rolled, i refused to believe that was it. just because of a kid's immaturity, my babies got ROBBED of the ending they deserved, such a huge turn of consequences.
