Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation

2015

★★★½ Rewatched

Rogue Nation got my attention from the opening scenes with Cruise's Ethan Hunt character hanging on for dear life from a cargo plane. The definite highlights for me, however, were the Vienna Opera House scenes and the exhilarating motorcycle chase through Morocco.

The addition of the best female character in the franchise, Vanessa Ferguson as Ilsa, plus a chillingly effective villain turn by Sean Harris as Lane, made the film even more enjoyable.

I still don't completely love the climax, ending with Lane being lured into a glass cube, but nevertheless, this is another strong Mission: Impossible film.

★★★★ Rewatched

I'm not sure if there is any other sequence of the franchise that has me on the edge of my seat quite like Ethan Hunt scaling the Burj Khalifa, I'm always left awestruck.

★★★★ Watched

Ryan Coogler had me hooked on Sinners long before the vampire metaphor became apparent. The vivid portrayal of a 1930s rural Mississippi community and its richly developed characters grabbed my attention from the start. Moreover, the film features an incredible soundtrack with the wonderful Blues music reflecting the African American experience of the time. Michael B. Jordan is impressive playing dual roles, but it is Miles Caton's unforgettable debut performance that is worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Juror #2

2024

★★★½ Watched

Clint Eastwood's Juror #2 is an engrossing courtroom drama that delves into the moral dilemmas faced throughout the trial—not only by Juror #2, Justin Kemp (Nicholas Hoult), and the prosecutor (Toni Collette), but also by Justin's wife and the other jurors. Some jurors seemed eager to conclude the case quickly, while others allowed personal biases to shape their decisions. The film kept me on edge, wondering how Hoult's character would ultimately act. He delivered a compelling performance, effectively portraying the…
