why can’t we share our pain

really enjoyed the editing and the yearning but the story felt too choppy at times

visually and sonically haunting. the use of the first-person POV felt very unique and made it feel like a dream and nightmare all at once

some interesting concepts but the ending really fell flat

bergman has been putting me through a bit of an existential crisis

“Call it what you will. Must it be so cruelly inconceivable to know God through one's senses? Why must he hide in a fog of half-spoken promises and unseen miracles? How can we believe the believers when we don't believe ourselves? What will become of us who want to believe but cannot? And what of those who neither will nor can believe? Why can I not kill off this God within me? Why must he live on inside me in this painful, humiliating way when I want to tear him out of my heart? Why does he remain a mocking reality that I cannot shake off?”

this level of existential loneliness is comforting to see

accurate portrayal of what depression feels like. you almost felt like the weight of these emotions would never let up

the unconscious...

the black and white cinematography made this feel even more harrowing. a tale of how hatred, violence, and control beget the same. a warning also for where things look to be headed

quite impressive that this was a debut film. you can see the shots and ideas that led to the brutalist and the score was haunting. it does feel like there could have been more development in of him becoming an authoritarian versus what was shown

you feel quite alone and powerless watching the system take and take from it’s people. 

loved the beautiful attention to detail - the score, the set design, the costumes. that feeling of being swept up in yearning and being blind to the obvious machinations around you. the feeling of wanting to break from the rigid structures of society while never actually being able to do it

rewatched in a film dissection. amazing although i was definitely fading by hour 5

really fun look at how neuroses can rule someone’s world

food and film are love and life

a love letter to the california of the 70s and a movie about wanting and being wanted

a feat to have been made in the current political climate. wish there was more depth beneath the characters, last third of the film was quite compelling though

amazingly captures that feeling of where something is slipping away and you don’t quite know how to stop it. 

meditative and made me thankful for my experience out there in the pnw

this felt like mulholland drive especially with the glitching at the end. felt terrifyingly helpless

a bit cliche at times while also showing how we can isolate ourselves and how little moments of tenderness - sharing ice cubes - can give life a small piece of meaning

interesting look at the occult, sexual lust and repression. lily rose-depp was phenomenal. love eggers since the witch, this is probably his most ‘typically’ structured film

it’s not the journey, it’s the destination 

a meditation on what it means to be beholden to others to produce and create what you want to

dark, funny, amazing, loved the pacing and how it felt like one long nightmare slowly falling into madness with these two

raw, frenetic. really builds empathy for lucky

really gritty film. the almost documentary style really immerses you in the monotony and daily struggle. at times, a difficult watch due to how much you sympathize with ming. do boats really straighten out as they near a bridge or is that just something we tell ourselves so that we can endure another day?

is this a christmas movie?

a beautiful look at rich childhood and inner life and what it can feel like to have that taken from you

fun timmy performance! otherwise, not too interesting of a film

‘i feel like as if my insides are getting hollowed out’ - there’s a sense of disconnect and that feeling of recognizing that something is slipping but being unable to control it. there’s multiple inferiorities and that feeling of seeing your life happen before your eyes and you aren’t participating in it is a horrifying feeling

what does it mean to feel like something belongs to you. the development of a friendship through sharing of notes and physical media. that feeling of dysphoria or dissociation was common for a specific type of teenager and maybe you have one or two friends who have similar interests but it’s also a way for you to better understand your feelings and how you fit into the world by contorting something to fit you. 

and at the same time, these things that define you don’t have to consume you. or on the opposite side, is letting go of certain things what will lead to you losing yourself?

insane amount of body horror, one i’ll never forget and at the same time one i wouldn’t want to watch again

society is obsessed with dictating the lives of those it doesn’t understand.

devastating look at yearning, loneliness, and our attempts at being understood. amazing performance by daniel craig

very beautiful. little moments of life. makes me appreciate seattle more - the greenery

ion and love is in the details. mesmerizing watch

beautiful portrayal of the bonds we make through online communities. it reminds me of my own interactions with people on tumblr or random forums that I still think about to this day. there's a sense of understanding when things get stripped down in that way.

i want to say that this sort of connection is still possible despite how fractured things have become
