Jaws

1975

Whenever I revisit this film, I’m always just in awe at how well it has stood the test of time, and 50 years later, it is still just as innovative and iconic as it was back in 1975. Seriously, in contention for quite possibly THE most iconic movie of all time. There will never not be a day where I would rank this among my absolute favorite films of all time. I can finally cross off seeing Jaws on the big screen off of my bucket list….

The Karate Kid

Yet another classic that I’ve somehow never seen in full until now. A truly powerful underdog story with perhaps Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita being one of the best film duos to come out of the 80s, with every scene they share being more memorable than the next. As much as I would love to just give this a perfect score, the film can lose its steam at times, with some story elements feeling rather rushed. Regardless, this film is truly the Miyagi way. “Wax on, wax off.”

Sure the pacing is odd at times, but Tom Cruise, you absolute son of a bitch, you don did it again. Absolutely thrilling from beginning to end, maybe the best character interactions in the franchise, and an ending that is so unbelievably satisfying in every way. I’m sad to see this franchise potentially go, but I feel like it has run its course incredibly well, and I don’t know how many more of these stunts Tom Cruise can pull in his 60s. Regardless, you’re my goat Tom Cruise, no matter what they say.
