as far back as i can i always wanted to be italian-american… some cool shots! and martin scorsese’s mother! i was more excited about the heat trailer that played before hand. pairs well with a tall cheap glass of cab though. i miss tony soprano.

cried a lot. cried when they were mean to john. cried when they were kind. cried when he first puts on his little suit. cried when john cried. and then i started thinking am i crying because i miss david lynch or am i crying because he made such a beautiful poignant film about how kindness and love can change the course of someone’s life? or change their hearts? or how we treat each others ultimately is a reflection of how we view ourselves and the world around us? all of the above? i wish the world we lived in was filled with more altruism and tenderness… might be up there with lost highway for me…

i miss him every day.

oh my godddddddd… did not expect to be crying for the last 20 minutes… such a sweet tender corny little romance filled with so much hope and heart. it’s so hard not to fall in love with takeshi kaneshiro. adored kelly chan and michael wong. having a crush used to mean something... we used to yearn… scotland is so beautiful… ugh !!

“How could I tell him… what music meant to me?” 

Every opera scene fills with me such immense joy, I felt my cheeks begin to swell with every ing phrase. Tom Hulce’s giggle reverberated back into the audience, and the whole theater bursts into its own kind of music. F.W Murray’s performance as Salieri is and will always be one of my favorites. Hearing Don Giovanni and not having the ability to compose something so stunning would piss me off too. Secretly making a man write his own requiem is nasty work… I love his motivation. Peter Shaffer’s screenplay and Miloš Forman’s direction blend in perfect harmony. I forgot it was 3 hours long and did not once feel its length at all. The perfect libretto. This is only my second time seeing Amadeus, first time was around 15/16 when I was heavily studying and performing as a classical vocalist. Le nozze di Figaro is a piece of music I cherish very dearly. I love Mozart and I miss singing his beautiful work, so so much. Heart is full tonight.

oh my god took my breath away!! i wish hideaki anno would make more live action features because both for me are undoubtedly masterpieces. big lover of the use of a classical music soundtrack and can’t stop thinking about that opening train tracking shot.. maybe all of them actually.. i have also never seen so many uses of perspective in any film ever? the editing the editing the editing.. unbelievable. also sony handycam magic. the microwave shot ahhh. i just wish every film felt like this. and though its light in the spirit of being a teenage girl it’s also very much the plight of coming of age as a teenage girl. we think the things we want, usually romantically but even materially, are worth the sacrifice of self when really it’s a way to cope with the deeply felt loneliness we all have. i need a dvd on hand at all times, hideaki anno you just get me <3

A vignette I really loved: A man and a woman are sitting next to each other at a bar but at two separate tables. They both barely move, staring into the unknown. The woman subtlety glances over more at the man. Every drink he takes of his beer, a moment after she does the same. As she finishes her drink, he finally looks over. He takes out money to pay and she quickly does the same. He pays in bills, she pays in change. He gets up to leave as she prepares to do the same. For a moment he leaves the frame, and there’s just this perceptivity of how she feels. He comes back almost immediately to the table, as she tries to leave they look at each other. Really take each other in, and in an instant they embrace. And then they slow dance in the empty bar. As if they’re the only two people to ever exist. As if they were always meant to. As if it were the only thing that matters.

This is for those who yearn.

Bleak as hell but wooooow Tsukamoto !!! Cinematography is underworldly, plays like a noir with a comic book like movement to it using a slightly slowed down frame rate. Dancing with death, the fear of dying but also being alive, the desire to hold that fear in your own hands, to feel control of your own existence. Haven’t stopped thinking about it all day, especially the train scene. Incredibly cool.
