maya hawke’s character was written pretty badly
I’m not gonna play fucking Coldplaaayyy sooongs. I’m not gonna play CoooldPLAY songs. Fuckin watch Coldplay!
jake paul, you are not in on the joke
significant drop-off BUT we get the ymca scene and christopher walken getting groovy
love how farley just plays a completely different character in this one
what an opening sequence.
gorgeous and green, much more than a love story.
witnessing beauty can make it easier to perceive the beauty within ourselves.
and that richard jenkins loneliness monologue!
this is steadily good and then sandman and frost will just all of a sudden be doing the coolest shit you’ve ever seen
you also get to see the easter bunny get told to go suck an egg
So much going on here, why can literally everyone and everything under the sun be found in this movie, there’s gay Andy Samberg, Jon Favreau getting thrown up on, Rudd and Segel tom sawyering, ally Jk Simmons, Thomas Lennon spamming “whore,” and that’s just to name a few.
If your mom is Jane Curtin, she could absolutely be your best friend, in fact why wouldn’t she be.
Somehow judd apatow was not formally involved in this and that makes no sense to me.
Yeah well, I know my farts.
hilarious how the scene that’s supposed to convey how clooney and pitt are these bad boy geniuses is just them tricking a few ppl at poker who don’t know how to play poker
don cheadle’s british accent was somehow funnier though
When it comes down to making out, whenever possible, put on Side One of Led Zeppelin IV. but then immediately cuts to Kashmir off Physical Graffiti…
tasty waves and a good buzz dude
dilemma where I find Jack Quaid very annoying but he’s also pretty great at playing annoying characters which is respectable but then that just makes him more annoying.
funnier than expected.
let’s get Sophie Thatcher some better scripts and get the scream queen candidacy rolling!
why did we turn this on
spending a weekend trip in your 40’s with people you haven’t seen since high school is probably more appropriately a horror script
a lot of nostalgia factor with this one
gonnaaaaa find my baby gonna hold her tight gonna graaabbb some afternooooonnn deeelight skyyyyyrockets in flight. after-noon de-light
my sweet chinchilla??
one watch and this is already one of my favorite comedic performances of all time.
ernie douglas, but MY FRIENDS CALL ME MF CHIP.
couldn’t stop laughing during the basketball scene, and that SCREEN jesus christ.
jack black getting pissed off in a soundgarden t-shirt
give david cross lines
those endless darkness ceiling fight scenes are so cool, all of the scenes in the ring were really captivating.
some historical inaccuracies, stereotypes of the genre, and disted pacing, but it is a 2001 michael mann movie about muhammad ali so you are g up for some of that.
no obligatory childhood/adolescence scenes in the beginning, applause all around.
perhaps one of the most audacious conversations a person could choose to have with their wife over the phone
andrew scott YOU were the best caller
chris farley is the only reason I turned this on
john goodman just randomly appearing with less than 20 minutes left
“Lieutenant Kendrick, do you think Santiago was murdered?” (demi) “Commander, I believe in God and his son Jesus Christ.” (kiefer)
juicy courtroom moments aplenty, that jessep monologue at the end is some all-time angry war officer yelling
and great job for including a tom cruise impression of jack nicholson
love that Skipper uses “Parker Posey” as an exclamation
my favorite penguins, and kind of everybody’s favorite penguins? star power
And in Bay City, if you cross the line, your nuts are mine.
loveddd patton oswalt’s disco battle narration
I want to live in faraway winding caves and tunnels with the Mytics dude, my favorite part was every single cutaway to their journey.
awe inspiring set design.
was entirely (and happily ofc) caught off guard by The Safety Dance and Ma’s robot
poor genie dude
if your movie is bad, having charlie day act like he’s on coke generally helps
]]>this feels like experiencing a god awful day on twitter while trying a new drug, also you’re like nineteen again, not to mention before all this you’re forced to watch a guy named troy swing around his used condom like car keys, but then you’re randomly granted serenity by ayo edebiri’s presence and jacob elordi’s side profile.
]]>love this brand of movie for the random fred armisen and will forte spots
always unfortunate when dax shepherd has to play a dick
“you know I was talking to jimmy buffet this morning about trans fats” in a ponytail that steve martin never needs to explore again
this score gave me simon and garfunkel graduate flashbacks but luckily more amusing
deeply unserious, but mostly the good kind
“Art, as in work of,” is a flawless character entrance.
both emma’s were amazing, this movie obviously lives and dies with them, unbridled talent at two different stages of their careers, can’t understate how great they are in this.
sequel/spin-off family movie that still has tons of charisma, it cannnn be done
we appreciated the specification of vampire makeup and effects in the opening credits.
“she’s dead as a doornail, my friend” would not be my go to one liner after a vampire kill.
antonio banderas… if he gazed deeply at me and called me beautiful, very different events would have transpired afterwards.
horny, bi movie where vampire brad pitt gets saved by film after raising a family with tom cruise
buddy guy
]]>burns down mother’s house and then immediately heads over to a weeknd concert.
guys she actually poured out the gasoline.
a few extra points for the laughs, namely the loosely choreographed mini discography run through hostage scene. the soft tears followed by “I feel like that was about me” scene is also worth a mention.
an unrelenting, continuous display of intertwined visual and musical beauty
give it a few more years and everyone’s going back to single, madeleine wake upppp
name one scene that doesn’t work
]]>I normally burn out by the end of the movie for this lane of comedy even when it’s smart, but he does play such a great idiot, the robinson/rudd dynamic is fun, and it’s made in a creatively unique enough way, so ended up having a really good time this
it’s hard not to go 4 when the big lick scene exists
impossibly tragic that the lasagna was left uneaten.
bob odenkirk doing cool shit with a bus handle bar, bob odenkirk dropping the needle on the record with his gun to set his house on fire, bob odenkirk doing cool shit scored to Pat Benatar, bob odenkirk getting saved by RZA and Christopher Lloyd. hard one not to have fun with.
kind of what I was hoping Love Hurts could be (or at least close to it).
could've had a Sinners round two… sitting down instead for round two of Julia n friends defeating depression was an extraordinarily tough pill to swallow, but still not a bad time.
wyatt russell plays a great douchebag US Agent, Ghost deserved some more screen time, and marvel can’t escape terrible dialogue
Des Moines, Iowa.
the more thought I give Secretary, the more I love how much the ending anchors the whole movie.
large portions of this almost felt like something originally written for the stage.
24/7, 7 days a week. ingrained. you (no not James Spader, iykyk)
og james bond Qatermain has a fucked accent for two hours and kills a guy with a tusk
“You broke my heart once. This time you missed.”
somehow made the majority of these characters so much more forgettable (I would completely forget at different points of this that tom sawyer was in fact tom sawyer) but dom bought the dvd and I had a fun time
“Please don’t gasp at work.” julia we love you
didn’t butcher Sentry???
kevin feige should be sending florence pugh weekly flowers
a KID??? they had a CHILD?? she had to have her pregnancy explained to her every day?!?! waking up on a BOAT with a CHILD with nothing but GLACIERS all around???
I liked sean astin’s lisp
DAMMIT the fuckin Heroes cut to credits worked.
I feel like the minor problems I have with this are easily reconciled once I that the entire script is from the vantage point of a ten-year-old.
i felt deeply and personally scorned when I wasn’t allowed to see this as a seventeen year old
paramore riot merch as far as the eye can see
peeing in the lotion?? pretty vile
an unfortunately accurate display of how eighth grade boys talk to each other, but also provides a reminding sigh of relief that those years are nowhere near the full culmination of who those kids end up amounting to be.
yes I cried duh, some really beautiful mother/son scenes at the tail end, Joan Chen’s line delivery of “how could I be ashamed of you?” crumbled me
Really loved Italia’s character representing the vibrant, still yet untold parts of life that can be left forever unappreciated when in pursuit of things dead and gone. It’s also important to her character that Arthur’s lack of ability to excavate enough of himself for her never took away from her vibrance and the possession she had over her own life.
]]>will need to rewatch, did love that it jumps right into things. I did not remotely clock that the protagonists are therapists, and my understanding of the characters was lagging behind the entire time. overflowing with cool shit though, will definitely be revisiting
]]>happy anniversary to these three incredible losers
]]>desperately need to know more devito oswald lore about how the penguins raised him.
character defining performance from michelle pfeiffer, the one-liners are too perfect, the physical acting is too spot on, the disheveled hair and smudged lipstick combo is so appropriately manic.
walken’s shreck character is so random in his plot significance.
so much charisma, identity, and creativity in this one, that danny elfman score deserves a shout too.
pointed out by rob- no one uses a good bridge (often cobblestoned and/or curved) like tim burton
a musically centered one-day vampire movie had no business having this level of innovation/creativity (i have never seen another musically centered one-day vampire movie).
“shammmmmyyyyyy” unserious
movie poster so purposefully ugly that it ively steered me away from watching this for so long, so much funnier than i had assumed and very perfectly 2016
would love to party with joan cusack
basically katy perry’s current career trajectory
bill hader saying “tip-top” is all I really need
poppy was just continuously sick as hell, my lair would also likely be in a customized treehouse and that dance routine with her cat blew whatever cockroach boy george was doing out of the park
dr nefario??? i was taken aback
FANTASTIC neurotic man movie
no shortage of rewindable moments, especially among the smoky shots
they got emma stone back for this?? feels like a sequel that would’ve had a big main cast member missing.
luke wilson and woody should’ve run away together
“we banish you to the deepest recesses, where you may reflect upon your wickedness”GRATIFYING line
cool exploration of grief and that need to be “held”
anthropology sucks and florence pugh can’t find peace, but she’s just too damn good at playing nearly/fully manic characters
*almost* made will poulter unlikeable
lawrence ultimately wins the “solemnly take off and set down my shiny, stylish glasses” competition that takes place throughout this entire film, but bellini and sister agnes certainly have some contending efforts
]]>honestly not one I can critically evaluate too much for now. thought Justice Smith put in a great performance and the pink opaque was cool both in concept and delivery. intentionally melodramatic style of writing at times. there were significant parts of this that I felt I couldn’t fully grasp (in the sense of understanding the full emotional scope and implications of some portions), which is okay considering the perceptual limitations of my own identity, and yet was still left with a very haunted feeling regardless.
deeply saddening
