I really can’t talk enough about how fun sound design and lighting was in this. I also liked that scene of Ani yelling in the hotel it gave me slight woman under the influence vibes so I have to give flowers where they are due. And while I do feel like some of the hate seems bandwagoning this was heavily flawed. I wish the cinematography was more emotionally charged because we see all this cool camera movement but it feels unwarranted? at times. Specifically in the scenes where Ani is driving and when Lee is banging on the door in the hotel hallway, if they wanted to stick to more experimentalism I think pulling from Angst or Climax for filming techniques wouldn’t have hurt.
Instead of trying to capture two sides of the same coin they missed the opportunity to explore the idea of parasocial relationships. Which I think would’ve played out better as that dual nature shared between the two isn’t fully explored. One of my biggest complaints with this was the ending it didn’t translate well and was almost comical. I would’ve loved to see it pull back to younger Abel gazing into the flames or even completely stopped before he started singing.

Some really fun and beautiful lighting and editing. Sound design was so fucking sexy I’m mad this isn’t getting a imax release. Jenna really put in the work for this, she really killed it during those scenes towards the end. With all that being said I wish they would’ve utilized that possession-esque scene a little more and I don’t really think Abel singing in the bed translated that well. Still would recommend and hope we get to see Jenna take on more roles that showcase her talent 🙏🏽
