Good cast and mostly good story (gimme a break with Carlyle's uncanny persistence) unfortunately paired with some really obnoxious direction and editing.

Incredibly effective at creating discomfort. Maybe too effective. Lengthy shots of the high-school protagonist showering, bathing & rubbing one out don't provide anything of substance.
And something that rang totally false to me was a male bully making physical threats to a girl the way he would another guy. But maybe that's a thing. Ice rink prom, on the other hand, is a liability insurance nightmare that can't possibly be legit.
The skate-off was unintentionally hilarious.
I wish I could say this movie did something new with the careful-what-you-wish-for and dual-persona narratives. Then it might have balanced out the flaws.
Some good performances, location scouting & cinematography, though.
This is, ittedly, a clumsy movie with clumsy lore. But it's creative and fun with some cool concepts, some inspired visual flourishes and a Queen soundtrack. And where else, I ask you, can you get a Belgian playing a Scot and a Scot playing an Egyptian Spaniard?
I adore it.
