saw it with my good friend nic enjoyed. it felt like a companion to grand budapest definitely will be a hit with wider audiences. straightforward lil comedy piece. there’s a smoking nun that would've gone quadruple platinum on peak tumblr. props to wes anderson for doing something interesting with michael cera. It's cool they let him cook a little and didn't just rely on cera's usual shtick. benicio del toro is sooo cool.
]]>movie mordecai and rigby would be obsessed with at the beginning of an episode and later be teleported into because benson asked them to take out the trash or smth and the arnold schwarzenegger standin is voiced by roger craig smith
]]>as an itysl hater i was surprised how much this made me laugh at times conner o’malley stole the show with just one scene dropped a line that made cackle
]]>“some of the best nights of my life were spent in parking lots”’
saw my one of best friends for the last time before he moves to portland. had to rewatch - felt like countless nights hanging out in his basement. i swear i've said something along the lines of "what I'm going through right now has not been felt since world war II by some people that were in it," facedown on his carpeting after a botched romantic attempt many times. feels like the end of an era. never subscribed to much "average male experience" brand of posting, but this truly feels like young adulthood in a new jersey suburb. i miss my friends
]]>cinema for 8 and 27 year olds is back!!
shadow is cool i couldn’t read in like first grade so when my aunt took me to buy a game from gamestop for my birthday i thought i was picking sonic secret of the rings id actually picked up shadow the hedgehog and thats the craziest accidental come up ive ever pulled off shadows so cool never saw the other two sonic movies i had to tap into this for the shadow these kinda suck lol
i will be starting to review things again
]]>good movie scottish star is born could you believe i spent the entirety of this writing my first shrek 2 review ? okay im writing this on june seventeenth almost a month and a half later to say I HATE MY STUPID FOOD BIT dog i’ve been so backed up on logging shit i’ve watched because i cant what i ate four weeks ago during a movie at 3am is it a prison of my own design? yes. but its becoming too much im actually forgetting shit i’ve watched in the time between this and now so i will now be introducing a cheat to kick start my herculean task of logging and reviewing movies everytime i log something with “i forgot lol” just know im whipping myself at least five times with a cat of nine tails get ready the big seanbagel catch up starts NOWWWWW
]]>it’s strange this killed the raimi trilogy, it’s actually pretty consistent with what we’d got previously. just a bit more bloated with some rough pacing, but yeah they’ve always been campy and messy. what this one lacks in consistency it makes up with being the funniest movie of all time. every five seconds a character is doing something deranged or dropping an all timer line. my theater was a little too into laughing at shit that wasn’t funny, like dog whyre you laughing at peter accidentally slapping mj to the ground, not much humor there… in general we need to have a rule for rereleases, because the clapping during this was incessant. you should get three times to cheer during a rerelease, that’s all. but my crowd was yuckin it up at anything that happened. at one point i started to clap and cheer at a really random moment to see if i could get the crowd to it, and i accidentally timed it for when harry s the final battle so people actually did in and i felt like the oppenheimer pic. if i was to do it again id get everyone to cheer when they show a flashback of uncle ben getting shot again, but for theater of six people deep friend groups (i ran into a group of friends at the theater and sat with them so the other groups didn’t bother me much) and a baby it was actually the most spiderman 3 crowd i could think of.
]]>challengers has been the most fun film to talk about in ages like dune wasn’t even this entertaining to discuss with friends and strangers the tweets hit cornplate status weeks ago, but i’m still here making boner slapping jokes and defending arts honor against that evil evil man patrick zweig.
]]>watching rise of the planet of the apes knowing caesar’s life after wills house is just him constantly being put in the blender 😟 HE DIDNT ASK TO BECOME A MESSIANIC FIGURE FOR APES HE LIKED ICE CREAM WITH SPRINKLES ITS NOT HIS FAULT JAMES FRANCO THRUSTED CONSCIOUSNESS ON HIM HE DIDNT ASK FOR THAT i’m tearing up thinking about it again
]]>FUCK EVERY MOVIE SHOULD LOOK THIS FUCKING GOOD I LOVE RERELEASES RAHHHHHHHHHHHHH also i wish i wasn’t so broke when i saw this the amc icee and popcorn combo it would’ve been perfect i was debating asking the guy to me for a lil handful of poppycorn
]]>we hear a lot of talk from industry head about the impending collapse of the film industry, but i look at challengers and the way it’s been received and i just feel hopeful in a sexless era of blockbusters. we got a sexy sports movie captivating the nation, it felt impossible but the people crave erotic thrillers!! this feels like a minor but clear shift on what the public wants out of movies again don’t let those tiktok puritan freaks convince you otherwise!
]]>ari aster sure loves putting cock and balls in all his movies huh. like he’s been doing this since his first feature that’s so funny. not as blown away by this as i was ex-machina, which i expected. i knew the big events going into this which sort of softened the impact. this would probably be a five if half of the big moments from the movie weren’t huge memes on film twitter, but i was unsettled enough to actually stop eating my food during the movie lol. even though i watched american animals a couple weeks before i saw this, i feel like this is actually the first ann dowd performance (again she had hair, which is disappointing…) so ill just pretend this is actually my first time seeing her in anything :)
]]>you don’t see heroes get shit on like peter parker anymore. it’s what we’re missing this niggas life SUCKS. i also love the depiction of new york in this trilogy incredibly dense, diverse, and full of life a place to aspire to live. fantastic movie. not many in the genre can claim to reach its heights. i had to choose between this and a challengers early screening - deciding factor was this theater was at a mall with a popeyes and i was hungry lol.
]]>we got inglorious bastards at home
i wasn’t going to stick around the theater after shrek 2 to wait for this but then i fell asleep in my car and the movie started 15 minutes after i woke up so i just went with it. after the credit started rolling i realized i couldn’t recall a single thing i just saw outside of the fun opening scene. this’ll go hard when you need a movie you’re sure you can watch with your family to time
]]>being criminally depressed will make you do crazy things like see the shrek 2 rerelease two days in a row
wanna highlight eddie murphy’s performance a lot of actors like to do a voice acting gig bc they can just sleep walk in the recording booth and collect a fat check but you can hear eddie absolutely loves playing donkey it shines through every line read
]]>anyone still talking about this? it was fine… its main problem is its complete unwillingness to take a stance on what it wanted to be. is it a, an action romp using a war-torn america as a backdrop? or b, a commentary on the increasing social unrest reaching a boiling point, reflecting the many problems the us has been shrugging off for too long? it ends up being firmly in the middle, and worse for it. one particular scene that encapsulates my frustration is where one of the main journalist characters is hooting and hollering with a soldier after just witnessing the soldier shoot an injured enemy begging for mercy, and the militia gunning down anyone else left alive with a heavy machine gun on a stand. it makes you think, what is alex garland saying here? is it that the journalist doesn’t give a shit about the war happening around him? is it that these are the “good guys”? it's more so just upsetting imagery and juxtaposition, but what is the point being communicated? we don’t even know which faction we just saw win! all of this could be dissuaded if the movie were just an action movie not concerning itself with trying to be topical, because the action sequences are actually really thrilling and engaging. it’s just in the downtime the film struggles to define what it wants to say besides the importance of journalists and the documenting of history. last thing, holy fuck, this is so goddamn loud. seeing this in imax was insane. i actually had to cover my ears a couple of times, which i’ve never done in a theater before. i liked it but wish it was more.
]]>not to go all out “animation is cinema” but it’s amazing how perfect this is… like shrek one was a fluke no one expected it to be such a smash hit and then.. to follow it up with such a genuinely well written sequel is kind of a miracle. this works so well it’s actually hilarious - the drama is compelling; it sort of feels like how the incredibles is a family drama with superhero’s this is a movie about identity and self image like damn shrek didn’t know you felt like that big dog :( i felt me growing a huge smile during the final true loves kiss like i was so invested like id never seen it before. i could watch this at literally any time forever one of my favorites fr
]]>everyone was moving so insane in this movie, like norman off the goblin gas at thanksgiving, talking crazy about mj, and harry just takes it and even defends him. harry was movin' like such a hoe, mackin' on mj knowing peter’s been in love with her and still claiming to be his boy. and then to cap it off, peter and mj kissing at norman’s funeral, freshly after breaking things off with harry. like that’s new levels of out of pocket. if i was harry, it would’ve been tweakin' because why're you doing this shit IN FRONT OF MY DEAD DAD? everyone cheered during the big kiss, and it was very nice. we need sincerity back in movies like immediately.
]]>MAN I FUCKING FORGOT I WATCHED THIS i skipped it when i was catching up on my backlog of movies ive been neglecting to log soooooo embarrassing. movies good i particularly liked the new york section so much fun crammed into what’s like 7 minutes of the runtime a really great depiction of the city. the movie had an intoxicating flow until the moment reality hits cool framing good time. FIRST ANN DOWD PERFORMANCE IVE SEEN AND SHE HAD FUCKING HAIR i might have to take that up with someone…
]]>one of the most beautiful looking movies i’ve ever seen, with one of the best opening scenes i’ve ever witnessed. took me awhile to catch the film's vibe, but once i caught it, i was thoroughly engaged. Long lingering scenes of the worst couple coming together or violently ripping each other apart felt like hanging out with my friends who need to break up in a major way, and hanging out in the backseat while they argue. i loved hearing the narration tell a story, and twenty minutes later watching a scene and it dawning on me, this is the story that was told, playing out. hao-hao really was the quintessential broke leech dj boyfriend so many bushwick boys owe so much to him
]]>yeah jerrod carmichael i’d want to off myself too after tyler dubbing on air and getting dragged for being into raceplay too.
]]>this must have had the people shittin themselves in the drive-in during the 70s, but it’s lowkey kinda weak now in the scares department. personal gripe but creepy kid stories rarely do anything for me. i do, however, fuck with the scene with the monkeys freakin out. when my dad told me about this movie as a kid, i was led to believe they had a more prominent role in the movie, which i wish was true. i understand this being as iconic as it is; it stands as an important text in horror history. it’s just not really scary anymore. i didn’t feel the disappointment i felt walking out of the exorcist though
]]>i fucked with the racially unified street gang of nihilistic teens so fuckin heavy and then i they shot that little girl which wasn’t so chill of them. the first thing we see in the movie is them getting gunned down by cops in an alley with no warning so i thought they’d have a sympathetic angle but it’s really just a movie about the scary multiracial youth coming together to rape your churches and burn your women. the cop and criminal did reach dudes rock status though
]]>who up spankin they monkey man 🙈
]]>needs a lot more tina turner and lot less of those fuck ass kids like i’ve never seen a movie blow a lead so hard everything leading up to maxes exile is so dope and it doesn’t regain the momentum until the last 20 minutes of the movie
(dog i forgot what i ate during this for the most part and have been stressing about the tags it’s taken me almost a month just to log this because of that)
]]>i was an idiot who believed kong had a chance at winning godzilla vs. kong. i watched him lose and it broke my heart. they gave him a pity win against mechagodzilla but id lost the ultimate debate. going into this i was still under the impression my goat was a fraud but an important decision was made: the pivot to make kong a dude, a large ass dude. he has tooth aches, he has complex feelings and an arc. i almost felt a pain in my chest knowing he had no giant monkey sized beer he could crack open after a long day of chillin out and fighting monsters in his conspiracy confirming secret hallow earth. the movies so fucking boring when kong or godzilla aren’t on screen. i questioned why i was even there for 30 minute stretches until those fights hit and they deliver. we need a planet of the apes style plague to kill off humanity if you’re gonna make me sit through any more of these
]]>oh so being a young adult is just like that, huh? i found so much of this relatable and therapeutic. being young and broke feels like navigating through a maze of locked rooms, where everything seems designed to drag you down. every false lead ends up wasting your time, only to let you down in the end. dealing with wage theft, especially with a parking garage istration that feels particularly evil, hits home personally. and adding the immigration process on top of that feels like too much to bear. i was surprised when the film almost brought a tear to my eye, especially during the exit scene with a character i hadn't realized i cared about until that moment. overall, i really enjoyed this experience and i’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for whatever julio torres puts out in the future
]]>thought this would work a lot more for me one of my favorite genres is business thrillers where a bunch of dude scream at each other about sales and profit margins but i found myself struggling to care about anything going on
SCREAMERS RANKED
]]>1. Ed Harris (i had to rewind his crash out scenes he was so fucking mad lmao the way he goes “fuck the machine FUCK THE MACHINE” i had to keep rewinding it)
2.Al Pacino (good screams funny lines not much i wasn’t aware he could do
3. Alec Baldwin (great scene great monologue fucks off after one scene so i couldn’t rank him any higher)
4. Jack Lemmon (decent old man yelling like a lion slowly facing its end as the leader of the pack)
5. Alan Arkin (paranoid barely any cool lines characters dealing with too much to really get to stretch his diaphragm
6. Kevin Spacey (weak sniveling mousy STOP TOUCHING THE LITTLE ONES ‼️‼️‼️ WE GON KEEP OUR CHILDREN AWAY FROM U MY BROTHER)
holy shit, that was incredible.. i didn’t start really keeping up to date with movies and focusing on expanding my tastes, finding out what i really liked, until 2018 when i got hired at my first job at amc, which allowed me to see so much. i missed out on most movies from the 2010s – they are major blind spots, i think. 'the favourite' was my first film i'd seen by the new wave of auteur directors of our age. i missed the rise of A24, most of the major hits that put them on the map, so the IMAX rereleases of their now “classics” are helping me tap into what i missed. goddamn, i loved this.. i had moderate expectations, but this blew me away from the start. i was hooked. beautifully shot, fantastic performances, and a perfect script – i was on the edge of my seat as each twist played out. it's really easy to just appreciate the themes of fear of the looming integration of ai in our lives that just rings more and more true each day, and the arrogance/malice of the tech bro billionaires pushing it on us. but i love there’s so much more to dig at besides “machines bad, skynet incoming”. i've been thinking about its exploration of morality, male ego, humanity, and what we project onto people around us and why we feel about people the way we do. looking forward to seeing if i feel as blown away and ionate about 'hereditary' this month as i do about this. ALSO, THE DANCE – THE FUCKING DANCE definitely lived up to the almost legendary status it holds
]]>columbo pilling has begun
]]>jeremy irons being interviewed about gay marriage: “so could a twin not marry his identical twin and then commit experimental surgery under the use of hard drugs and inherit his estate 🤔” liked this one its funny it starts a lil freaky you think it’s gonna get REALLY freaky it doesn’t. and then it gets really sad
]]>This review may contain spoilers.
was watching this and something came up that made have to stop watching and finish it later in the week (which raises an ethical concern with my food tagging system do i A. log what i ate the day i finished the film or do i B. tag what i ate the during however many days it takes me to finish something if it takes me more than one sitting i’ve been doing option A primarily because if i sit down with two meals and log those that just sounds big backed) just as the movie really started to gain momentum in the last 30 minutes the movies okay it’s funny how nonchalant everyone is about what’s happening around them pisses me off the annoying ass daddy issues guy survived
]]>SEEN ON 70MM AT AMC LINCOLN SQUARE
still so fantastic the 70mm screen made everything look even more stunning the shots of the desert dunes were jaw dropping so so so so happy i got to experience the film like this with my friend beside me
]]>me when we live in a society chosen one lore stuff: 😴💤💤💤
me when trench coats sunglasses shootouts and explosions: 😳🤩🤤😱
dolby rerelease was crazy the sounds in the movies are insane the bullets wizzing past me made sitting through most of this again worth it for me
fun fact i watched reloaded first as a kid and when i went back to this one i turned it off once the shrimp thing went in his bellybutton and never looked back i really fucked with the highway chase in that one
soooooo sick very straightforward dude gets sunglasses sees some fuckshit immediately shoots up a bank lol it’s crazy seeing young keith david it almost doesn’t feel right but he’s just as cool then as he is now i rocked with this so heavy it made me start just speaking like beavis and butthead halfway through “nada rules” “hehe he said ass” “boing” “hehe he kicked him in the nads” movies so cool it took me to a primal state
]]>this was so cute! ive tired to watch this like three separate times since it released and even this time it took me two days since i got distracted the first night but im glad i finally did it i feel like it’s underrated wes tbh, it’s always in the bottom tier of people’s wes rankings and it’s undeserved not his best but certainly not his worst loved all the different animation styles that they managed to fit into this and the voice acting in this was great the usual understated deliveries of wes’s style lent themselves perfectly to this. i made sure to pet a dog soon after watching and i think i will pet one again soon
]]>very cool wish i paid a bit more attention while watching i got really distracted playing with candle wax (kinda fitting?) and i had to sleep before work so i didnt have time to rewatch i will definitely be coming back to this again soon maybe ill throw it on for my friends around halloween had no idea james woods was a freak like that
]]>saw the hog fight on my twitter feed and had to tap in viggo mortensen so goated happy birthday david cronenberg
]]>got diagnosed with lesbian before the movie walking to my theater one of worker asks what i’m here to see i say love lies bleeding and she goes “I KNEW IT WITH THAT FRUITY ASS SHIRT” ok dog. this goes hard, loved the greasy vibes i love the way the direction fetishes the muscley figures early on and then switches to a body horror angle with just the sound of rippling veins and the imagery quickly turning sicken ed harris chewed scenes like no other his presence is felt at almost every turn it’s cool to see movies back to not being scared to be sexy or gruesome i felt the entire gasp with me during some scenes such a fantastic feeling shout out lesbians!!
]]>sooooooooo sick i kept rewinding sequences especially the shot of the cars taking off from gastown with plumes of smoke being shot from the various tires i think i watched those scenes for at least ten minutes unfortunately i was a little sleepy towards the end so im definitely going to have to watch this again someday probably soon sooooooo sick
]]>once i realize this wasn’t really a post apocalypse movie i kinda checked out anytime a car wasn’t crashing or an australian wasn’t yelling lowkey a phone movie i just caught up on letterboxd reviews during this
]]>ben kingsley might have given one of the best crash out performances on screen not everyone will understand but sometimes it’s necessary to corral your friends who wouldn’t be able to get out of bed without you i salute all the dons out there i wish i liked the movie around the performance a bit more though
]]>genuinely liked kevin smiths take on legacy friendship and the american dream dante’s life would be considered pathetic by so many people but by the end he own a business is surrounded by the people who matter to him with a child on the way so what if he never left jersey he’s happy as someone who almost left new jersey to florida just to follows someone else’s path instead of forging my own this hits kevin smith might be the only director to make pull an emotion THAT WORKS during something as crazy as that freak ass scene fun fact rosario dawson took the role of becky just to see that scene be shot and i think she’s very cool for that
]]>when i first saw dune pt.1 i infamously greened out and didn’t absorb most of the movie i knew i really didn’t retain any of it when someone mentioned the scene of oscar isaac being naked at the dinner table across from the baron and i said that straight up didn’t happen i would’ve ed (i didn’t) which is crazy because literally the same thing happened this time but the scene where feyd kisses the baron I THOUGHT EVERYONE WAS JOKING they were not so i had to see the movie again just to confirm and yeah it’s there no idea how i missed it the first time i was completely conscious then must be the djinn of the desert messing with me
]]>was in a depressive episode which got me so bad i was omw to see dune again and just turned around and drove home. i was itching straight scratching to watch goodfellas again but the screening i saw was still fresh in my head and i wanted to preserve the memory so i gave this another watch and find myself liking it more on rewatch i also rented this around 10:30 at night which is a huge gamble because im prone to overestimating how long i have in me before i start dozing off but i went the distance and finished it no problem which is huge
]]>i think all the black comedy bits worked for me but this would’ve been funnier if almost all my knowledge didn’t come from the rasputin vs. stalin epic rap battle of history
]]>i would’ve loved this a lot more if i watched this when i was 14.christian slaters basically playing JD from heathers again but without any of charm in his writing he’s mostly just an annoying writers self insert and alabama doesn’t have much of a personality outside of being devoted to slater. quentin tarantino you’re going to hell for writing that slur filled italian monologue and im of the belief django unchained cancels out the jimmy garage rant in pulp fiction (also that scenes lowkey funny) but i have to put you in the contraption for that garbage. i’m traveling back in time to slap the dogshit out of hans zimmer for this rugrats ass score truly awful shit. also love in the movie full of going “holy shit he’s in this?” for actors showing up for two minute scenes included the craziest gary oldman scene of all time which made me say “oh so that’s what that guy was doing on barry” and james gandolfini soft launching tony soprano it’s insane it pulls out bob duncan last minute AND HE HATES COPS. extra half star for brad pitts gatorade bong
]]>*me talking to southern margaret qualley*: “yeah, say that you a lesbian, girl, me too“. the movies a mixed bag i was laughing a lot during the scenes with the two leads and the two henchmen but enjoyment came to a screeching halt when it cut to a beanie feldstein scene or when another god awful transition or montage hit seriously someone need to tell ethan to put those capcut edits DOWNNNNNN. shout out lesbians!
]]>holy shit man packed theater everyone locked in one of the best theater experiences of my life even though i had a looney tunes ass experience myself i had to honor the dune part one incident of october 23 2021 so i smoked a j and took a couple edibles NOT ENOUGH TO RECREATE THE INCIDENT first i of course had to buy the bucket but the lid wouldn’t close at the way and i forgot this during the movie because of the bristles tight grip seriously any popcorn grab bigger than a couple kernels will get your hand caught at one point during the movie i went to grab a moderately large hand of popcorn just for the lid stop me from pulling my hand out so i give it a little yank and the fuckin lid comes off the bucket and spills some of my bucket on the guy next to me (he was cool abt it) next i move on to trying to silently open my mini reeses cup bag with a resealable top so im silently rustling around trying to open it and then it fuckin falls over open face onto the ground the guy behind me heard me mutter “motherfucker” under my breathe and laughed i recovered about 15% of them on a brand new bag just pure lunacy on my end the movies incredible btw idk if i said that but it was everything my life’s been leading up #TheDuneAgenda #LongLiveTheFighters
]]>SEEN AT THE BARRYMORE FILM CENTER W/ Q&A WITH BARBARA DE FINA
