The Long Goodbye

1973

Liked Rewatched

Hazy cynicism with smooth humor and smooth vibes, it's hard to not love The Long Goodbye as an antithesis of many noir tropes. Philip Marlowe is endlessly charismatic as this smug detective spouting mumbling comments throughout the film, he's a treasure to watch. The cool vibe of the film is equally matched by its darkness, which creeps around the peripherals of the film. This is a clear classic, bolstered by John Williams' wonderful score. Easy recommendation if you enjoy movies with very loose structures

The Descent

I've always had this movie in my mind as one of the finest horror movies out there, it possesses a perfect crescendo of chaos throughout its runtime and hosts many beautiful shots.

Make sure you watch the proper ending to this one, it can be found on YouTube if you watch the wrong version. The American edit is stupid, ruins a perfect denouement that many people likely missed.

This film defines what it feels like to be growing up and maturing in the 2010s. It's an overwhelmingly beautiful, emotional, and fragile story. Almost a send-off for the decade.

Yes, there is a LOT of modern music- Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, Kanye West, Tyler the Creator, Radiohead- yet it all adds a level of style and relatability. Perhaps it's a love letter to generation z (haha cringe haha) I don't know.

All else I can say is that I…
